RWildman424 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 To start this discussion, I will say that I like the new trains much better than the old ones. The old trains were extremely uncomfortable and for any one over 6' extremely difficult to get in the cars in the first place. I actually had scrapes on my knees after riding once from pulling the lap bar down. I still loved the ride, so I was willing to deal with the confined cars, but now they are much better. The old cars did allow for the loop, but I'm willing to sacrifice one element of the ride to make the ride much more enjoyable. Quote
ZukoGirl Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 I haven't been on the new trains yet when I first seen them I was surprised they didn't have headrests Quote
SonofBeast07 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 the old cars looked really cool, but the new ones are much more spacious Quote
goofywdw Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I hated the old lapbar. I felt like I couldnt move much at all especially being a litte kid and small. The new ones are pretty comfy and like SoB7 said, more spacious. Quote
TheCryptRaider Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I love the new ones. If only could still have the loop with these trains? Quote
CoastersNSich Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 New ones by far!!! Even if you could loop with the Premier trains, the Gerstlauers are seriously more comfortable for large riders, and you gotta love not having headrests! Quote
Guest rcfreak339 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Am I the only one who likes the old trains? SoB was so much smoother before the new trains and so much more fun. Back then I could ride SoB up to 5 times in a row, now Im half way threw the ride and Im yelling get me the heck off. It feels like my chest is being crushed...ouch! Quote
ZukoGirl Posted March 29, 2009 Author Posted March 29, 2009 I want to ride Sob this year and compare for myself which trains I like better. The old lapbars didn't bother me to much. But I've never really riden any wooden coaster (expect the Fop coaster if I can count that) w/o the headrest Quote

I liked the old trains a lot better. Plus the new trains don't even match the ride! Quote
violakat03 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 The new trains are friendlier to large sizes. The biggest thing I didn't like about the old trains was they were very confining. I also like the lack of headrests on the new trains. That being said, I prefer the old trains cause they could traverse the loop. Quote
Beast1979 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 The new ones, though the ride still stinks. Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 There is nothing physically preventing the new trains from traversing the loop...but manufacturer's recommendations must be followed in Ohio. One must find a manufacturer willing to accept the possible consequences of allowing their coaster trains to loop on a wooden coaster. And that consent must continue. Most manufacturers were not and are not willing to take that risk, not even back in 2000 when Son of Beast debuted. Quote
Beast1979 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 So now we're following manufacturer's recommendations on trains? Wasn't it a certain toboggan company from Philadelphia that said they didn't want their trains on backwards, but we did it anyway? Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Are they running backwards now? ALL rides in Ohio must follow manufacturer's recommendations to be licensed. Quote
Rollercoaster Nut Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I love the new trains they let you have a lot more room to move around and I love not having a head rest. I used to only ride SOB one time a day now I ride it five times. Plus the lap bar on the old trains always tightened too tight and turned my legs purple Quote
Captain Picard Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I liked the old trains up to around 2003 and now I don't want to ride it with new or old trains. Quote
DropZone99 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I love both of them, but the Gerstlauer trains are a little better. Either way, the ride is amazing. Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I would agree with that...Son of Beast is amazing. Quote
Diamondback FOF Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I've actually never ridden SOB, so I wouldn't know. Quote
The Interpreter Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I've actually ridden SOB, so I wouldn't know. Eh? Terpy, confused Quote
sgshredder33 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I remeber the old train's head rest hurting. That being said I still prefer the old trains Quote
Diamondback FOF Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I've actually ridden SOB, so I wouldn't know. Eh? Terpy, confused There's no need to be confused . I made a typo and edited my post. Quote
Beast1979 Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Either way, the ride is amazing. In math class you're called an "Outlier" and we're not supposed to factor you into our equations! Quote
Colonel_SoB_fan Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 ^ "an outlier is an observation that is numerically distant from the rest of the data"(Google Dictionary, 2009). Well Son of Beast is the best wooden coaster in the park, in my opinion, so that makes him no longer the outlier. Quote
Jasper Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I prefer the new ones due to the comfortableness of them. But I would still rather have the old ones with the loop. Quote

Every aspect, including the roughness, makes it amazing. Quote
