Changes to The Beast

Featured Replies

I enjoyed finally riding The Beast again after a long winter! That first drop is always a wonderful feeling and getting to do it in short sleeves today made it even more special!! The retracking of the helix made a huge difference in that part of the ride and it was better than I can ever remember! Did anyone else notice that they finally shortened or reduced the strenghth of the magnetic trim brake at the start of the drop after the second lift hill before the helix? I thought it was my imagination on the first ride of the day until my kids said the same thing at the end of the ride. Then we took our last night ride and that left no doubt that there is not as much braking at that point in the ride. Way to go KI!!!

You might want to hold your breath on that one. Typically, KI removes some of the magnetic trims at the top of the second hill early in the season. The reason for this is that most wooden coasters run a little slower in the spring after re-emerging from winter rehab. As such, the added trim brakes are not necessary. Once things heat up and The Beast starts cruising again, you likely can expect that magnetic brakes become a little stronger there.

We`re not talking about through the helix. We are talking about the trim brakes that are located on top of the second hill, right after crossing under the second lift hill.

And while it was mild today, I wouldn`t say that it was hot and humid like those summer months of July and August can be in Cincinnati.

I'm sorry. That is what I was attempting to refer to in my original post (Man, when I reread that, I realized that I am very tired after a long day!!!). I meant the trim on the drop into the helix. Sorry to mislead you.

Note: I have edited my original post.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that! He was absolutely screaming through that final helix. I noticed that it didn't seem to be grabbing as hard, and that combined with the new track made for an amazing finish.

Also, I don't know if it continued for the entire day, but in the morning, red Racer was running trimless on the turnaround. Massive air time on the bunny hops!

Sounds like the good old days....
