gigacoaster2k
I decided today that I was going to KI after work if the weather was OK. So after I got off work at 3, I changed out of my work clothes, and drove down to KI. I got there around 4:15 to see that the parking lot wasn't even half full. When I got in the park, I headed straight for Diamondback. It was a walk on, I barely waited 10 minutes. I rode that three times. On one of my rides, I saw a kid jump from the regular line to the single rider line. I told the ride op about it, and she (Jessica) firmly told him to go to the back of the line. Go girl! I was going to marathon DB the whole time I was there, but I wanted a ride on Drop Tower. There were less than 20 people in line. I ran back and rode it a second time and pretty much walked on. While I was up there, I could NOT believe how dead the park was. Even SOB's and FH's queues were pretty much deserted. So I went over to SOB, and rode in the front seat of the red train. Unlike the blue train, the red train jerked me a little at one point, but I tell you, the front seat of SOB is a great ride. I headed back over to Diamondback, and passed Kawana on my way there. We compared ride counts in passing. I looked up at the sky to see some rather nasty storm clouds rolling in.. so I squeezed 2 more DB rides in and headed out to the parking lot to get money for food just in case it did storm (I'd only brought in my car keys, a few pieces of gum, and my pass). I walked back in as people were pouring out of the exit like the park was closing. The clouds looked like a tornado was going to poke out at any given moment. I walked back over to DB to see that they had shut DB down until the weather passed, because several claimed to have seen lightning. I got a pretzel with cheese and mustard (yes, I know, I'm gross.. deal with it! ) at the Snake Pit, and sat under an umbrella as it sprinkled and people continued to leave the park. I finished my food and walked to the back of the line, where I saw markr. We rode together for 2 rides, and then caught up with Adam (pkiboy). Adam and I requested front seat on our second to last ride, and got it. Kawana and markr rode behind us. We ran back for one more ride before the queue closed, and were told we were on the last train, but while we were on the brake run, we saw a half-full train going up the hill (where did those people come from? There was no one behind us!). Adam and I were kind of ticked that we wanted last train and were told we were getting it but didn't.. lame. That has never happened to me at Cedar Point! I left the park happy that I had gotten my 50th ride on Diamondback.. and no sooner did the park closing announcement come on than it started to rain. I am so glad that held off. Ride count in less than 4 hours: Diamondback - 9 Drop Tower - 2 Son of Beast -
kingsisland101
Dang! That's a good ride count. My Diamondback ride count is 10 rides. I can't wait to ride it like 1,000 times!
violakat03
Grr, now you've passed me on Diamondback rides!! I'll have to go a bunch next week to make up for it. It feels weird having not ridden it in over a week when I've been at parks all week.
TopThrill
Nice trip report, congrats on your 50th ride on DB. I hope to get to 50 soon.
AgentSoB
Nice report, seems like you had a good time. Day like what you described are some of the best in the park. My family always gets on my back about going on weekdays after work. This early in the season they are almost a guarantee that you are in for some good riding. It sure beats a crowded weekday. pkiboy
I love ramdom KI trips. My count is 99 on D-Back so when I get back from Holiday World this weekand its SHOW TIME .
Kawana
Our group waited over an hour for SoB on the 28th. That was because the majority of the park was in one train operation mode. I'm not sure if that was because of the weather or a staffing issue, but it was extremely annoying. That "last" train was made up of Diamondback crew members, and someone wearing an ACE jacket and two other people. We got jipped, man. gigacoaster2k
SOB was a complete walk on.. I was astounded. I walked all the way to the station and only waited through one train for my ride in the front seat. They were running 2 trains too. Yesterday was awesome, with the park being deserted and the rides running at full capacity. The only other "line jumping" I saw was a little kid trying to find her mom and dad in the queue. That I can understand.. but adults should know better.
MillenniumBeast
Not to stand stalkerish but I saw you a lot of times, Giga. XD From 430 onward my sister and I just kept getting in line for Diamondback and I thought it was funny when you jumped for joy when you got first seat. I had my Diamondback First Rider shirt on and I was usually a few groups back in the line. Oh and the park from 10-3 was kind of packed because the coasters only had 1 train on them, so it was making the lines go very very very slow Luckily I rode The Beast when there was almost nobody in line because that's a 5 minute wait for the train to come back! Dan
Congrats on the ride count. My DB ride count is a whopping 0.

We weren't so lucky the first time on The Beast, there was a full station with one train running. We had to have waited like, 40 minutes or so at around 10:45 in the morning. TopThrill
I really don't like that, after a rain storm they take all the trains off then just leave one running after the rain. Just don't understand that.

Is this a Cedar Fair policy, or is this a new policy? I don't ever remember this being the case after a rain storm? I don't understand it either. I believe it's a Cedar Fair policy. Probably for safety reasons that would make more sense under the skid brakes (where there was a possibility to shoot through them when they were wet) to keep trains from crashing into each other. gigacoaster2k
What cracked me up at the end of the night was when I was ready for another lap on DB, and markr turns to me and says "I have to use the little ACEr's room." It's a good thing I wasn't drinking anything.. it would have been on the pavement.
