Coaster Kid
Could Slingshots cords eventully snap off sending the riders 100 of feet in the air to be soon coming down in a big ball of flame?
The Interpreter
Could it? Theoretically, I suppose. In reality, that ride has more redundancies than you can possibly imagine. You take a bigger chance riding to the park in a car, truck or bus, or just walking across the parking lot. Now, those traveling bungee type rides with the rubber cables...that's a whole nother story...though even they have a relatively good safety record. The fact remains most injuries in parks are from falls, and usually those occur because guests slip or trip, often because they are running and/or not looking where they are going. That last part is just one reason I remain astounded that Cedar Fair parks, and Cedar Point and Kings Island in particular, not only allow but tacitly encourage running with the bulls when morning ERTs begin and again when the parks open... I Fully agree. I never understand it. I would rather walk to a ride and wait a little longer than Run hurt myslef and have to go get bandaged up. The Interpreter
...or be ran into by one of the people behind you charging ahead. I really, really do not understand why Cedar Fair continues to allow this very dangerous practice...especially since they are a leader in safety in almost every other aspect of park operations. I_heart_pki
Someone could get seriously hurt. They had a show on the Travel channel a while back and it talked about the "Millenium Mile" or something along those lines. It was insane!
The Interpreter
Will it take an accident not unlike the one Wal*Mart had in the Northeast on Black Friday after Thanksgiving last year before this stops? I certainly hope not...
I_heart_pki
or the America's Next Top Model auditions in New York! saw it on the Today show.......
dare-to-fly
a whole nother story. This phrase from you, Terpy??? I just give up! (not) You also reminded me of what I tell high schoolers that are concerned about how safe coasters are. My response to them when they ask if I'm worried about them flying off the track is always "you have a million times greater chance of being in an accident on your way there than you do to fly off the coaster." The Interpreter
A "whole nother story" is a term of art used often in my...uh...trade in my part of the country. But, that's a whole nother story...and I like being...uh...complementary. Terpy, who knows that will make sense to the English teacher... dare-to-fly
I also teach math and I'm licensed in science at the high school level, so I'm well rounded enough for many things to make sense. Flyer, who is highly amused at the moment.
BavarianBeatle
Back to the original topic, I don't know of anything that would cause Slingshot to burst into flames if the cords broke....
Beast79
I have full faith that ki's ride maintenance is doing their jobs everyday, working ride maintenance for two years myself I know what goes on to keep rides up and running properly. As for it bursting into flames maybe your playing RCT 3 a little too much, step out side and get some fresh air.
