raptor
Next week I'm taking my first trip to Pennsylvania and attending these parks: Day 1 - Conneaut Lake Park Day 2 - Delgrosso's Park and Lakemont Park Day 3 - Idlewild Park Day 4 - Knoebel's Park Day 5 - Kennywood Park I was wanting some suggestions on what the best eating plans at these parks are from anyone who has visited them. Thanks!
Go Browns
I know this is not exactly what you are looking for but I always recommend packing lunch at amusement parks. Lunch meat sandwiches, pretzels, chopped carrots, maybe an apple, and something like a yogurt, and water or diet pop is perfect. I'd look into which ones have picnic areas around the park. At CP I usually sit on the beach or in the grass under a tree outside of Gemini. It is by far the cheapest, healthiest way to eat at the parks. Inside most parks all you will find is deep fried, sugary, fattening, over priced garbage. That is all for my rant of the day, carry on. The Interpreter
Day 1 - Conneaut Lake Park Day 2 - Delgrosso's Park and Lakemont Park Day 3 - Idlewild Park Day 4 - Knoebel's Park Day 5 - Kennywood Park Conneaut now has outside vendors working from food trailers. The Hotel Conneaut also a dining room that some years is very good, some not so good. The fresh cut fries they sell down by the Beach Club have in past years been awesome. DelGrosso's is owned by a family that also owns a food company. Outside in the parking lot (!?!) is a wonderful ice cream/hot dog place called Austin's. The frozen custard there is actually frozen custard. I recommend it highly. The food inside the park is also quite good, and includes MANY healthy options. Just because Kings Island serves what is for the most part unhealthy and overpriced food does not mean all parks are that way. Wednesday is Spaghetti Day in the park, by the way: http://www.delgrossos.com/sw.html Idlewild is owned by the same people that own Kennywood. You can buy discount tickets to Kennywood from Guest Relations while you are Idlewild, and you can save a chunk of change. At least you could under the old owners, before Kennywood Entertainment was sold. It's worth checking out. Idlewild has a great many healthy and wonderful food options, and it's hard to go wrong. The food is also very reasonably priced. http://www.idlewild.com/in_the_park/dining.php Knoebel's....ah, Knoebel's. Some people swear by their pizza, me not so much. From Birch Beer to funnel cakes, you can find all kinds of wonderfulness at Knoebel's, and all of it is very reasonably priced. Both The Alamo and The Oasis Cafeteria have many, many options, very reasonably priced. http://www.knoebels.com/food.asp Kennywood is completely surrounded by other food choices just across the street. As such, the food inside the park is very reasonably priced and quite good. The Potato Patch fries are a local tradition, the sausage sandwiches at the Pagoda are not to be missed, the pizza is outstanding, and the Kennywood cafeteria offers many healthy, reasonably priced options. The Rankin Bridge is currently under construction. Be SURE to check the Kennywood website before traveling to the park: http://www.kennywood.com/footer/directions.php
raptor
Thanks for the info, If only all of their websites spelled out there food choices the way Knoebel's does the Alamo looks good to me. Unfourtuantely I was on a Conneaut Lake forum and someone said that they are not openning the Hotel restaurant this year, and their not sure why, I was hoping to eat there as I will be staying there. PhantomTheater
As Terpy mentioned, Del Grosso's has a thing called Spaghetti Wednesday, they are so good I have sceduled my park visits on those day to eat the delicious cuisine. Also, there sloppy joes are not to be missed. At Kennywood, I highly suggest either the pagoda or parkside cafe, which is located in the middle of the park. If you need late night food, I suggest Sheetz as they are everywhere in PA. Ordering there is fun, as its from a touch screen menu.
Brandon
Since Kennywood is close to Pittsburgh, stop by Primanti Bros. It has been shown on the travel channel a few times and has good food, many consider the best in Pittsburgh. They are all around too. The Interpreter
I should also add that if you are going to DelGrosso's and Lakemont, tis best to eat at DelGrosso's...and I again highly recommend the Austin's in the parking lot, though it is hard to go wrong foodwise at DelGrosso's. Exterminator
I used to live in Pittsburgh, and I miss Kennywood so much. You really must get the Potato Patch fries, they're the parks signature food. They also have a nice picnic area so you might want to take advantage of that. While you are in the Pittsburgh area you MUST get Primanti Bros. sandwiches, they are really delicious. I also reccommend Sheetz for a quick bite to eat, Eat n Parks are good too, similar to a dennys but a little nicer. Have fun, the coasters there are awesome! Also make sure you go through Noah's Ark, it really is unique.
