The Interpreter
...While theme parks across the country, including Walt Disney World, are seeing a decline, there is one theme park, which has been holding on and actually saw an increase. You got it. Disneyland was the only theme park in the country that saw an increase in guests passing through the turnstiles. Attendance was up 2 percent at Disneyland in comparison to 2008’s second quarter, while Walt Disney World’s attendance dropped 1 percent. Attendance may have gone up, but overall revenues at the Disney Parks have decreased. The decrease is mainly due to the fact that Disney has been offering many deals just to lure guests to the parks. Vacation packages including free nights, free dining plans and much more has been offered to potential guests in an effort to get them to the theme parks. With those deals guests are paying less to visit the theme parks and due to the economy they are spending less once past the front gate. A decline in attendance was also seen at theme parks with Universal (10 percent), Six Flags (8 percent) and Cedar Fair (13 percent). Could this be a sign that Disney had the best marketing strategy since the theme parks in California and Florida had an increase and the lowest percentage of a decrease in attendance? Or just that everyone prefers Disney and the services the company offers?...
