Night of Fire Canceled

Featured Replies

I guess that if you were one of the unfortunte people at the park tonight, this is not news to you. But after talking to customer service, the event has been canceled leaving only tomorow night's presentation. I was actually kind of hoping that both shows would be pushed back a day. But anyway since I was fortunte enough to narowly miss leaving home to attend tonights presentation, I'm curious about those of you who actually attended. So I'll guess we'll open this topic up for any accounts of tonight's unfortunate cancelation and any updates on perhaps a change of plans for the show. I also feel sorry for all of those without season passes who paid general admittion for the sole purpose of seeing tonights show and for those who paid extra for a dinner and a view without a view. dry.gif

I was not working tonight but I was there most of the day taking pictures (got a few good shots when the skys turned blue). Heard the announcement that the fireworks would be going off at 9 instead of 10 because of an incoming storm so I quickly got to my perch, just to be dissapointed by the site of the quickly incoming black skies. Announcement was made that fireworks would be starting in 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, announcement that fireworks have been canceled.

One hour later, I left the employee lot and had no problems getting out. Looked out to the guest lot. Looks as if every single person was out in their car, lights on, brake lights on, not moving.

*sigh*

I'm just going to put it this way.. a lot of guests have gone home angry and dissapointed. What was more important was that they were safe, and that's all that mattered. What a way to end the 4th though.. sad.gif

Ok, just for those who werent out in the storms I will recap:

I was at Stricker's Grove, where tree limbs were blown down, heavy winds, lightening, and I saw several points of rotation in the clouds (for those of you who arent as meterology inclined: rotation in the clouds means that a tornado is forming, but not yet strong enough to form a funnel cloud). I believe that it was a smart decision to cancel the fireworks.

I agree. It was better to can the fireworks and keep the guests safe. I would have done the same thing to keep the guests out of harm's way..

Maybe the fireworks for both night will be shot of on sat. The storms were pertty bad. It is more impornant to keep the guest safe than happy. If peeps go home unhappy they will come back again more than likey, but if they come home in a body bag the park will lose alot of guest and money and even more important the loose of life.

My "night of fire":

8:30: My friends and I decide to drive over to somewhere around KI to watch the show.

8:35: We consider getting a campsite, everything is booked.

8:37: Everyone leaves the pool party to get dressed. We plan on meeting at 9, and departing for a parking lot.

9:00: Everyone makes it back to the pool party in time to help grab all the rafts and pool stuff and bring it inside. It starts to pour.

9:05: We watch Who's Line is it Anyway, interrupted twice by a meteorologist who IS NOT Pete Delkus. My friend is furious.

9:12: Power goes out. A few times.

9:15: Power restored.

9:20: We watch Lady and the Tramp and Aladdin (not by my choice....)

1:00: I go home, deprived of fireworks.

(Sorry, I'll bet the times are skewed)

I was disappointed about the cancelation of Nights of Fire - not angry. PKI's management staff made the right decision to cancel - as I would have done the same thing. I was disappointed by the weather NOT PKI's prudent decision.

My wife and I got together with another couple who were hanging out with us at the park after we left and enjoyed some wine. The rain may have canceled Night of Fire, but it didn't cancel night of Robert Mondavi Moscato - a great dessert wine, as well as a couple of other vintages.

Sure, I wish the weather would've been good....but that won't change history. At least no one, to my knowledge, was severly hurt.

I freaked out when the storms hit. I was at home though. The winds picked up here and the first thing I did was look at Weather Channel's website and Channel 5's website. I looked at the radars and thought it was weird because the closest storm to us was in Dayton according to both radars. I thought we had nothing to worry about. The wind kept getting stronger however and all of a sudden LIGHTS OUT! We were without power for around 4 hours. I went to bed at midnight and still no power. I don't know really, it was all very weird.

Last nights strom system was a bit out of the ordinary. The front originated up around northern ohio and michigan. Usually lines of storms move from the west to the east. This particular storm was moving along the same direction but soon took a sharp and dramatic turn straight south, arriving on our door step at show time for Nights of Fire.

That storm took me about straight out of my shoes. I was working at DOT and it just came out of nowhere. I was getting hit by debris and the wind was cool. The dark clouds were also pretty awsome!!!
