shark6495
terp i cant tell if you are being rude to me for my thinking or just saying how the park operates....
The Interpreter
I'm not being rude to you at all...I'm just predicting the future based on the past.... At one time, you could take picnic baskets into most any park. Park for free. But you also paid by the ride.
shark6495
ok just making sure.... are there still not picnic tables up by the front gate? I believe Bush Gardens had picnic tables in the actual parking lot, the one in virginia, to let people sit and eat
alluna
Growing up, my mom was such a penny pincher that once we even had a little birthday party for my little sister in the parking lot. Still have the photo of her in our parking space with the big Kings Island marquee sign right behind her and a cake on her lap. Interpreter, I wasn't trying to argue. Just simply explain why I left those things out of the article for first-time Kings Island visitors. People new to the area or to saving cash at KI in general just aren't very likely to actually leave the property for a lunch. Maybe one day I'll put together a more hardcore list of savings and include those suggestions. Erosarrow05, I can relate to the kid toting. I'd rather eat in the lot than leave the lot completely. It's been going on for so long that it would be a shame if KI ever tried to police it! Diamondback FOF, Sometimes we even find ourselves in Festhaus in front of a $45.00 pizza meal looking at each other like "What just happened here?" But we're so worn out and hungry that it's hard to care! Potato Works gets me every time, too. Every. Time. darn those sweet, salty potatoes! RD Reynolds
Alluna, thanks for the post. As a long-time KI and DW visiter and recent parent, trust me...there's no better tip than that Glo-Stick one. We also pick them up before going to fireworks shows, because they now sell them there. RD I just realized that I didn't add ponchos to that list. Guess the rain today was a good reminder! Does anyone know how much they are charging for them these days? We've always brought our own, I have no idea what to write as far as how much money you'd save by bringing your own ponchos. As a kid, I remember my mother railing about the cost of 'garbage bags with holes cut out of them'. C'mon, mom, they had hoods!
Guest rcfreak339
I love eating at Patato Works when I go to KI, It's not to expensive and the fries are great! A must when you go to KI. Don't forget the free water as well.
dakota2112
I bring my own beverages into the park, but I still buy some food and some souvenirs there. You people who haven't spent a cent at the park all season may be saving some money, but you are also helping spell the end for Cedar Fair. ^^^ I agree with the fundamental thought here. Many people say that amusement parks generate a significant portion of their revenue from food and merchandise. If that is true (and I believe it is) then going out of one's way to spend $$$ elsewhere is directly cutting the income of the park we all say we love so much. Depending on how you look at it, you could say that the more rides you get from your season pass, the more you are hurting Kings Island because the amount of money you paid per ride keeps dropping. I need to add up my ride count this year but I estimate that I'm well below $1 per ride this year myself. That is dirt cheap in my book, especially considering that it includes parking. So I have no problem spending a little extra $$$ to eat at the park from time to time. I'm not saying people shouldn't try to save money when they can - but just remember that funding Kings Island every once in a while isn't necessarily a bad idea. alluna
Dakota, You are absolutely right in that it's important for people to support the park they love to visit so much. I'm hoping that if someone cuts back on their, say, drink budget, they'll have extra money for games and pay-per-rides... the stuff that's fun to spend on instead of just thirst quenching. When our family goes, it's all about allocating money to where we'll enjoy it most. If we've saved $5.00 on a Coke, then that's a 'free' five bucks to spend on the plate breaking game. Or, more likely, money to spend on those $7+ beers. I believe whole-heartedly that if I ever won big in Vegas, I'd rationalize it into 'free money' spend it all before I left town. Sad...but true. I don't think everyone lives by this mantra, though, and I'm sure there are plenty of people squeaking through the park as ultimate penny pinchers. Kudos to them, because I'll bet there are plenty of folks out there spending enough to make up for it. If not, then I'd bet they'd lower the $3.75 Coke machines to more persuasive rate! (Actually, I wonder if the park is in charge of those Coke machine rates or an independent company...?)
TopThrill
A good way to save money at KI is eat before you go, bring food and drinks in cooler and leave it in the car. Then when the time is right, go out to the car and eat your meal. Or when you leave the park go down the street to Toco-Bell or another place to eat. TylerRider
For a good Burger combo, go to Boomarang Bay and Save 2 bucks on the same thing as the 50s diner

Those soda machines are highway robbery, but I don't drink soda so it doesn't impact me.
