Guest TombraiderTy
The first thing I would do is hire TombraiderTY…why, because he appears to be the kind of person that the park can’t seem to find…or at least enough of. He has an obvious love of the park and a respect for it’s history…I know that I could trust him not to harm the park’s image. (Put in your own derogatory comment here.) Thanks for the nomination I dream-up way too many Haunt ideas every Fall to list them all, but a current attraction I'd love to see expanded is CornSTALKERS. The current one is alright, but there are various ways it can be improved and enhanced. The back-story, which I believe was briefly hinted in the 2006 Fear Fest map, would focus around the scarecrows being brought to life via witchcraft (the setting being in the 1800s). Perhaps with a new location, the attraction would feature a longer, more intricate layout than the long-pathway it currently has. The scenery would also vary from cornstalks and wooden crates, now including jack-o-lanterns, possibly an old farm-house, and more. I don't have a full walk-through envisioned yet, but some scenes and details... -There's nothing frightening about a long strip of pathway in an amusement park- you realize there are rides in front, behind, and around you. You also realize that right-beyond the cornstalks that line the route, there's only amusement park. Universal Studios Florida had a large cornfield attraction a few years ago, and they created the illusion that you were in the heart of a massive cornfield by placing large props twenty or thirty feet away from the attraction: Your mind could be tricked into thinking that you really are trapped in the middle-of-nowhere in a giant cornfield, a scary thought. Scarecrows are the best example of things to use to accomplish this illusion, although the park could be more creative- perhaps using an old windmill -This one's simple and effective and can be applied to any haunted house or attraction- hide the fog machines and accompanying wires. They'd be easy to disguise and hide inside CornSTALKERS by using crates: -I am stealing this idea directly from Halloween Horror Nights Surrounded by literally hundreds of jack-o-lanterns, you slowly walk through a massive pumpkin patch, the only light source from the flickering "candles" inside the faces. The gentle howl of the wind can be heard in the distance (via speakers), causing the candles to flicker. As you continue to walk through this large scene, the wind returns, perhaps with an accompanying scream, and all the candles are quickly blown-out. In a single second, you've gone from a decent light-source to complete darkness. This allows panic to overcome you- you have no idea where you're supposed to walk without any light and you're worrying that somebody- or something- may pop-out at you. -In part of the trail, you'd pass through an old barn. The outside would be faded and aged, vines crawling up the seemingly-rotted walls. Inside would have a musty smell and the sound of scampering rats around the floor and old animal pens. The trail crosses through a narrow pathway in the center of the barn, bordered on both sides by piles of crates and farming equipment. Unexpectedly, you'd feel the rats run across your feet and ankles, squeaking excitedly. The idea of rodents scurrying around your feet is enough to make you shake, and the effect could easily be accomplished with this: Mechanisms similar to this are used in various 3D shows, including Shrek 4D and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. In the dark, you're left to assume that the noises and feelings around your ankles are actually real rodents- a very frightening, and sickening, thought. -As done at various other Halloween events, including Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World, the "farmer" in the attraction could swing his shovel across the pavement, causing sparks to fly-up. Beyond the sparks being unexpected, the loud noise is startling. The farmer swinging around a heavy and sharp object is also quite frightening -One final feature/scene I think could be amazing, although I doubt the park would ever invest in something like it, would be an acrobat flying overhead on a large wire: Universal used these "flying monkeys" in a Wizard of Oz themed attraction last year, and they appear to have been very popular. They could be incorporated into CornSTALKERS as crows or ravens flying overhead, or possibly the witches that brought the scarecrows to life. Also, if you think about it, one of the last places you expect something to come from is above you. Guests are looking left and right, their eyes aren't aimed at the sky. Not only would this scare succeed in the shock factor, but it'd also be so unexpected, it could easily freak them out. Just a few ideas for one of the mazes. Thoughts? RingMaster
They invested in taking pictures of people in a maze and selling the pictures back to them this year without actually scaring them; they can invest in a brand new way to scare people and get them talking about how they literally saw a person FLYING above them. But ohmigosh I love your new cornSTALKERS idea, Ty. Freakin amazing stuff you have there.
KIfan73
I like to go to Kings Island for the rides, and the other "normal" things that are there the rest of the year. I like the fog and the music, but I could completely do without all the other mazes and the "scaracters". I would like to see more festive food-maybe like all of the pumpkin stuff you can find at the Circleville Pumpkin show. Mostly, I just like that the park is open for another month or so. I wish some sort of Winterfest would come back so I could visit even later in the year.

I am so with you on properly hiding the fog machines! (!!!!) The machines under the water tower in Action Zone had the big jugs of fog juice next to them and everything. They also stuck a big scary monster in front of them, so your eyes were drawn to look right at the machines and take you out of the illusion. Also, those ankle things are way scary! At the Bugs Life show in Animal Kingdom, I screamed so loud when those things came out. Nobody expects to have rats race across their legs. I wonder if any park does a full-blown 4D movie experience for Halloween? With all the effects in the chairs for their regular 4D show, but timed for an annual horror flick?
