October 12, 200916 yr ...The concept is a simple one: Take a big crane, hoist a giant pumpkin into the air, and then drop it on something. In years past, that something has been a car, or a camper, or a semi-truck. Saturday's target was a motorboat. It was violently caved in by a 1,445 1/2-pound bright-orange gourd dropped from an approximate height of 90 feet before shattering into large wet chunks as a crowd of people some 10 rows thick looked on. Why a motorboat? Well, ostensibly it's because the theme for this year's Pumpkin Fest is "Pumpkins on the Lake." But, really, what kind of reason is needed. It's smashing a boat with a humongous pumpkin. You don't need a Socrates to find for a deeper meaning there. "It's just plain awesome," says Dakota Papsun of Geneva.... http://www.meadvilletribune.com/local/loca..._283223247.html
