7D Rules Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I know that there was another Drop Zone built at PKD and I was wondering if this one is taller than the one at PKI? I'm referring to drop height. I was under the impression that the one at PKI is the tallest gyro drop in the world. Is this true? Quote
ZERO-123 Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 The one at Kings Dominion is 305 feet tall which makes King's Island a little bit bigger. But king's dominion drop height is higher and you drop a lot longer because of late braking.I rode dominions drop zone last saturday and it was pretty good but I think Kings Islands has a better free-fall feeling. SixFlagsMasta Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 PKD's is butt ugly!!! They need a new paint scheme Quote
DegenRider Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 PKI's is still the tallest GYRO drop. PKD's doesnt rotate. Quote
7D Rules Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 I was not aware that PKD's does not rotate. I had also heard earlier that there was supposed to be some kind of change to PKI's Drop Zone. I have yet to visit and have not been able to confirm this. Anyone know? Quote
mars1825 Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 PKI's height is 315 feet and PKD's height is 305 feet, thus making PKI's still the tallest. PKI's only drops from 264 feet and PKD's drops from 272 feet. That is part of the reason why PKD's reaches a top speed of 72mph and PKI's reaches its top speed at 67mph. Also PKD's Drop Zone seats 50 people while PKI's only seats 40. Quote
Aaron Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 No it is not. I believe the Eiffel Tower is 364 feet. Quote
mars1825 Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 The height of the Eiffel Tower is 331 feet. Quote
BoObKiNoS Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 Incorrect. Its something like 315 for drop zone and 314 for tower. They are only one foot apart, the atenna on tower was cut down just so they could promote drop zone to be the tallest thing in the park. Betcha didnt know that Quote
mars1825 Posted August 9, 2003 Posted August 9, 2003 Incorrect. No, it's 331 feet and 6 inches. Betcha didn't know that. Quote
upstop Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 7D rules, the new addition to drop zone is in the seat belt mechanics. Instead of a slip on lock, it has a lock that must be squeezed from the side to unlock.....hence, a long wait for unloading if the guest is unfamiliar with how to unlock. Quote
Xx2cansamxX Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 I remember back in 98' they had a sign covering the upper observation viewing point, with a big banner saying "Drop Zone: This High Next Year" Or something along those lines. So the Eiffel Tower IS the tallest thing unless they cut some of it down, and they didn't. Quote
garagebandpunk13 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 yeah... so one is like 1 foot taller... they're both BIG! Quote
Mr. Fusion Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 Who cares which one is taller? They're both huge and let's leave it at that. Quote
garagebandpunk13 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 well at least we can all agree that it is infact very big and they're both 300 and something Quote
coasterrz Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 It is my understanding that the Eiffel Tower originally stood 331' and 6". However, the antenna on top of the tower was removed in the late 80`s or early 90`s. The Eiffel Tower at PKD still has that antenna. The current height of PKI`s Eiffel Tower, according to the spiel the elevator operators give is 314'. Back in 1998, they did have a banner hanging on the top of the Eiffel Tower saying "Drop this far in `99." Quote
garagebandpunk13 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 well drop zone doesnt drop u all 315 feet or whatever... it lowers you slowly the last 10-20 feet Quote
garagebandpunk13 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 maybe that's why the banner was on the tower and not like above it Quote
mars1825 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 (edited) DZ drops from 264 feet. Edited January 1, 1970 by mars1825 Quote
garagebandpunk13 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 i went on the drop zone at carowinds... it's only about like 200 feet... the drop is like 160 or sumthing Quote
slingshooter0607 Posted August 10, 2003 Posted August 10, 2003 In 99 I asked an operator. She said that the hieght of the actual tower including the antenna was 315 feet.Riders drop 264 feet of absolute freefall. Its measured from a point on the braking system like garagebandpunk13 said up there right about 20 feet. And the top of the tower (The checker board box thing) is also at the top which takes away some feet.So from my understanding..the actual hieght is 315 feet. And the drop length is 264 feet. Quote
BoObKiNoS Posted August 11, 2003 Posted August 11, 2003 Slingshooter and CoasterRz are right. Mars, you are wrong. Tower is 314 feet, just like the spiel says, and Drop zone is 315 feet, just like the operator told Slingshooter. They are one foot apart, and drop zone is the taller one. And yes, it does only drop you from 264 feet, although for some reason i thought it was 265 but i am not entirely sure so im not going to argue over one foot. ALTHOUGH i will argue over the hieght of tower and dropzone, becuase i am absolutley positive i am right, and that you are most definitley, so sad to say it, but wrong. Love, ME Quote
CYoung2003 Posted August 16, 2003 Posted August 16, 2003 Ok, boobkinos, you are 100% correct. Drop Zone is 315 ft tower wise. Eiffel Tower is 314 ft. That is the way it is. Period. End of discussion. Quote
Mr. Fusion Posted August 20, 2003 Posted August 20, 2003 (edited) This has nothing to do with Drop Zone, but it's a floorless, tilting version of the gyro drop... Is it just me or does this look painful?? Edited January 1, 1970 by fusiondude09 Quote
