July 31, 200323 yr Yes, the TR franchise has been an extremely successful video game, movie, and ride for that matter. But after the incredibly dissapointing Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness game released for PS2, 6 months delayed I might add, the franchise has taken a bit of a dive. More like a crapload of a dive. The game's bugs made it barely playable, it also was really nothing new in the series(the game was promised to reinvent the series). After this, one of Core Designs(makers of TR) founders, Jeremy Heath-Smith dropped out of Core and Eidos(publisher of TR)shortly after Angel's release. Then Cradle of Life released, despite the incredible amounts of advertising(especially at the parks)it did not do nearly as well as Paramount expected. Paramount now blames Angel of Darkness for turning people off of the franchise. In addition, Eidos has taken the Tomb Raider franchise away from developer Core, and given it to another video game developer, Crystal Dynamics here in the US. Though this really has no effect on the ride or PKI for that matter, I thought it was interesting how everything fell through so fast, and what they blame it on. And, in my opinion, TR:TR is the best dark ride at PKI(kind of one sided though), but as flats go, it's second to Delirium only. TR's still my favorite ride though. July 31, 200323 yr Wow, I noticed this too. But TR:TR is still a great ride, nomatter how crappy the movie and game does.
July 31, 200323 yr Tomb Raider did okay over the weekend in box office figures. Sure, it's in fourth place, but when you look a little deeper, you see that it's only one million behind Bad Boys II and two million behind PotC. That's not a bad start at all. Of course, you have that fluke Spy Kids 3D: Game Over, which only made money because of it's stupid gimmick.
July 31, 200323 yr yea. i went to go see TR2 yesterday and i liked it a lot. it was much better than the first one.
July 31, 200323 yr Yeah, Cabron. But the "stupid gimmick" worked, didn't it? It doesn't matter how you pack in the audiences, as long as you do...
July 31, 200323 yr It's bad for the people who enjoy seeing truly original and thought provoking movies. When movie execs think they can get away with putting out stupid trash like Spy Kids 3D, it's the end of truly good and original family films, such as Spirited Away or Lilo & Stitch. It's not just in the figures.
July 31, 200323 yr Didn't care for the first Tomb Raider movie, and unless they have really come up with a better plot for this one(which I have not heard), I will probably wait to rent that one. Still haven't rode TR:TR, so no comment there. And I agree that this Spy Kids 3D is probably stupid as well. Top Gun making a return to theaters? The only reason to do this would be to bolster popularity for the ride. You can see the ads now...Now that you've seen Top Gun, you can ride the movie at Paramount's King's Island. Yay (insert sarcasm here). Truly, I am sick of the movie themeing biz. Once you get out for say 10 years, nobody will even remember them.
August 1, 200323 yr We just need more anime at movie theaters! I couldn't agree more. There are some great anime movies out, you should see them. Oh, and about Sprirted Away, that's a sweet movie. Miyazaki outdone himself there. Watch Cowboy Bebop: The Movie as well. Good stuff. ~Shadow~
