countess_of_tuscany
I have often wondered what it would be like if Kings Island, Cedar Point, etc. (the parks that close during the winter months) were open year-round. Now, as soon as I hear "year-round" I automatically think "YES!" But the more that I really think about it, the more I actually am very content with the way it is. Actually the main reason that I don't mind the offseason is because of the anticipation of going back. And there is no better feeling, to me, than that first ride of the year on a rollercoaster! It honestly feels like the most intense ride of the year, since you are not used to the feeling. When it really comes down to it, as sad as I am to say goodbye to amusement park season, I think it actually makes me appreciate the parks even more when they are open. Sometimes, getting there is half the fun! Of course, they will never be open year-round due to weather, but I'm just curious to hear other's opinions on the inevitable offseason! Colonel_SoB_fan
I am willing to bet that this idea will be a rare thought on these boards, BUT I am 100% with you. I fear that if KI was open all year long, we would not love KI that much. The more you do something the more you stray away from it. Kings Island would lose the magic it has if open all year
Browntggrr
I have been to CP numerous times on opening day, only to ask myself why. It's cold, it's crowded, the rides are not operating efficiently due to a combination of the winter layoff and the cold, and it usually rains. And being that cold, with rain, feels like ice is piercing your skin on most of the rides that go fast. Also, the weather (like you mentioned). Rides at CP are shut down often due to wind and rain. It would be worse in the winter months. I like to use the "offseason" to hit the FL or CA parks. It works out well.
TheCryptRaider
I agree.. As much as I miss Kings Island and roller coasters in the cold winter months, I have to say the offseason makes me appreciate them that much more. If KI were to be open year round I don't think it would be so special. It'd just get old because you can go there whenever you want. -Josh, in math class. count_of_tuscany
Well, you know I'm in agreement with you on this one, but when it gets to this point in the offseason (like within two months of opening), the anticipation can become very intense! However, if the parks were open year round then I think there would be the risk of being spoiled by them. Having said that, someday down the road I wouldn't mind spending the offseason to visit some parks with more seasonable weather during our offseason!
