Kings Island General Discussion 2026
Browntggrr replied to Losantiville Mining Co.'s topic in Kings Island
You may not have used the exact words "just the youth" but it is certainly your focus when speaking of your background. Nothing wrong with that at all & I definitely don't envy your position but if it is only "bad parenting" it really wouldn't matter if the parents of the "unsupervised" youths were present? Everyone sees bad behavior on social media and lots of it is fake & scripted. It's amazing the amount of people, both kids & adults, that think it's real. Believing it's real is absolutely poor judgement. But you are correct, bad behavior in general is a reason things could be cut- which was my point from the beginning. -
New Event to Debut at Cedar Point
Browntggrr replied to Tr0y's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I'm not a conspiracy theorist as they drive me crazy- but WOW that was some quick planning! Even logo on the shirts! Makes me wonder if CM was already being planned & the MR concept was like sending out a test balloon. Nonetheless, good decision on the park's part to change it. -
New Event to Debut at Cedar Point
Browntggrr replied to Tr0y's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Some entitled enthusiasts are partially to blame for this. The criticism surrounding previous Coastermania events being: the same thing every year, a money grab, park officials didn't tell us anything we didn't already know, why not "X-coaster", food is terrible etc. Then it was cancelled/ modified & the masses lost their mind oven that decision. Could it be better? Sure. Anything can be better. No reason you have to go every year. IMO- although the logistics would be VERY difficult, the park should attempt to not have the same guest consecutive years (same goes for WCO). Spread it out to the masses. I'm interested to see the next revision but did get a chuckle how quick that news came out (almost too quick) that Morning Rush was also "cancelled". -
The map "location" for that ride has changed from HB/ Nick/ PS to IS a few times over the years.

Let's not kid (pun intended) ourselves, it's far from just youth that cause incidents. -
BWG Future Additions Survey
Browntggrr replied to johnjniehaus's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's hard not to love BGW. Walking it & soaking up the atmosphere is a must but using the train's (3) stops to the premier rides in the evening is fantastic. -
BWG Future Additions Survey
Browntggrr replied to johnjniehaus's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You are taking the survey too literal. It does say "over 300-foot" in the description. -
Did anyone just Google what rhetoric is? Raise your hand! 🙋♂️ 🤣

Not every storyteller cares but your continued rebuttals show you have some rather thin skin. It is what it is........

6 months since HH and this is the best you can come up with? Next time start with: "This one time at band camp...I got a fifth of E&J brandy stuck........."

"The Largest Amusement and Waterpark in the Midwest"
Browntggrr replied to Losantiville Mining Co.'s topic in Kings Island
^ Given that, why use it in marketing the park/ rides etc.? -
I would love to have prices go down. We took a family vacation for a week last summer, stayed at AKL with savannah view and had LL everyday. Yup, it was expensive. Yup, its was an EPIC vacation for all of us- one that we will not experience for a handful of years (or at least till PP/ Villains Land opens). Despite the cost, we would not have changed anything minus a couple transportation mistakes i.e. waiting for monorail from Contemporary to MK after 4th of July fireworks to catch bus back to AKL. Point being, it's basic supply & demand- until Disney can see a drop in park attendance trend or drop in resort occupancy, they have little motivation to change costs much. My daughters have planned a trip to Universal end of March. The cost of staying at Helios/ park tix etc. is on par with Disney cost.

It should be noted there were 141 operating days in 1994 (1514 operating hours and no HalloWeekends) vs. 153 in 2025 (1546 operating hours). Cost of 1994 one day ticket was $25.95 vs. $50 in 2025. 1994 Season pass was $74.95 (excluding parking & park amenities) vs. 2025 silver pass which does include parking and some basic amenities.

Six Flags Names New CEO
Browntggrr replied to DonHelbig's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I would also like to see KI operations go back to the pre-Paramount era. It's unfortunate many today did not experience KI in the 80's. It should be noted Reilly was president of Busch Gardens December 2007 (prior to Blackstone purchase) to November 2010. He had a direct influence in bringing the Busch Gardens Williamsburg name back from Busch Gardens Europe. -
Six Flags Names New CEO
Browntggrr replied to DonHelbig's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Unmitigated disaster is an interesting take. While no CEO/ COO record is perfect, his leadership with Parques/ Palace did provide a positive trend for customer service- one opinion many have been clamoring for when it comes to SF prior to the CF merger. He also made shareholders happy at the same time. I'm encouraged the decision was not just a "money" person. Who do you believe would be better suited for the job? -
I get she was injured on the ride and do have empathy for her injuries. -BUT- Claiming the park is negligent due to the coaster speed and placing the ride near water? SMH My initial question reading this "how can anyone prove the duck came from said body of water?" Why wasn't this reported when it happened? And the lawsuit was filed shortly after the unfortunate SDR fatality & quick settlement for another SDR incident.
-
Only if that were the case in today's world. I gave parks a free pass after covid when it came down to lack of employee resources. When CF/ SF reduced the wages for employees, that free pass no longer exists. I would never have thought the park's (KI & CP specifically) operational budget for new additions would come at the expense of ride downtime & customer satisfaction (cleanliness, store venues operating during park hours etc.), but here we are.......
-
The typical enthusiast always wants additions. As a life-long patron I'll take these changes in lieu of "additions": - cleaner parks overall: bathrooms, midways, queue line etc. - fresh coat of paint on/ inside buildings - better maintained rides - stores/ venues/ rides that are always open when the park is open. (while adequate staffing is difficult, closed stores. venues give off a barely functioning feeling for our family). - park theming & music - more shows I would love to see KI return to the late 70's/ early 80's vibe. It was an experience for our once a year trip. Going to the park often now does give the "it's always like that" justification- which isn't right for those who still only go a limited amount of times.

SDR reopening with: internal, ride manufacturer, 3rd party engineering & state approvals speaks volumes. I feel terrible for the family but also support the park in their decision given they have, by all appearances, covered all the bases to prove they ride is safe. I wonder if he was on medication(s) for blood clotting given his physical condition that subject him to the wheelchair, and, being in the park all day while his moving around differently than most days somehow contributed to the accident.
-
Another lawsuit has been filed with concerns about SDR. It does not appear or mention in the article the claimant had any medical records concerning the head injuries after riding during preview soft opening on April 30th. https://www.wesh.com/article/woman-claims-injured-same-epic-universe-ride-man-unresponsive-later-dies/68062084 I am all for safety & have empathy for her if it is a true injury, but, if there are no medical records of the incident from her or filing a incident report of potential injury within 24 hours of riding? And this is only reported after a horrible fatality? Interesting......
-
Horrible incident/ accident for all involved. There is an immense amount of speculation surrounding this. So immense- it's difficult to weed through most of it. The press release from president & COO of Universal Resort was done with empathy to the victim & family and also suggests the ride did not have any failure as described in the YouTube video previously described (which isn't a great shock). Not trying to sound callous- besides the initial coroner's report (which I found to have been released incredibly quick), I wonder if the victim had a medical episode that caused him to lose consciousness allowing is body to simply be limp in the restraint. Mack has also quickly revised their safety requirements for Hyperia at Thorpe park (which has similar seat design/ restraint as SDR): Perhaps it was necessary to change the safety requirement but I also hope that the change was not knee-jerk that may eliminate those it wheelchairs from enjoying the ride safely.

SoB was crazy spectacular structure to look at. The ride was the most disappointing of any coaster for us (parents, wife, myself) - which dates back to late 70's/ early 80's. Many rides had issues: original Bat, original TTD, WT, Hypersonic, Volcano, Drachen Fire etc...... None stack up to the disappointment that SoB turned out to be. We wanted the experience that was felt in 1979 when Beast opened given the name SoB- which gave it lofty expectations The specs were more than eye opening & impressive. Paramount wanted to compete with Cedar Point's 2000 addition of MF. IMO they cut too many corners- especially with $$. The design was bad. The structure was worse. The experience was mind-blowingly terrible. If you are going to use "Beast" in the name- why no tunnels? Why so easily seen? Ok....only 1 lift hill is accepted given the loop but they took away some major elements that made Beast incredibly popular. To CF's credit- they tried polishing a turd. And to put this out there- SoB's last rides were in June 2009. RMC was still in their own R&D stage in 2009 and did not come out with their first "ride" until 2011. In hindsight, Paramount should have waited for better options, better design. Waiting a year or two for a better product after MF debuted would make no difference today. Some enthusiasts say SoB was supposed to be rough. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but there is no ride that was nearly as painful and failed expectations. I loved KI from 1979 and was my #1 park. It wasn't until 1989 that CP changed that feeling with the addition of Magnum.
