^ I have zero inside knowledge of KI personnel but have heard rumblings through here & other grapevines about the current KI PR staff having questionable decision-making skills. I also am a firm believer that you do not need to make a bad employee look bad- they do it on their own. If the story is true, I question upper/ executive management's reluctance in dismissing an employee that is obviously not cut out for the job.

Very disturbing story. So disturbing that the validity should be questioned. It's too detailed. What gave me the "is this a real story?" thought is when the poster mentioned living close to the park. Every co-worker can't live that close & use those same words where the identity would be easily known. My biggest question is- why post this story on a fan site? Surely the mainstream media would/ could ask the right questions to the right PR people. Also- did the park release anything that the victim did walk away?? I didn't see anything like that. I did see the statement which seemed to echo among most media outlets:

Man Struck By Roller Coaster at Kings Island Today

I was an EHS coordinator for over a decade in a manufacturing facility. The one thing I learned was limitless $$ can be thrown at anything to make it "safe" but that does not make it foolproof from being used unsafely. Also- banks are likely the most secure places most of us go to regularly- they still get robbed. In a nutshell- if someone is determined to not follow the rules, they will push the envelope to make it happen. -
Man Struck By Roller Coaster at Kings Island Today

I hope the injured guest makes it. I also hope those who had to witness/ be part of the accident are not crazy traumatized. That being said, so many people just want to buck the rules because "they can't tell me what to do" or "I'm better than that". It has become a plague on society. People just cannot police themselves anymore. I'm to the point that every ride should require all loose items be put in lockers. Larger/ more popular rides should have metal detectors near the ride platform. If you are found with loose items, you need to get out of line, put your items away & wait again from the end. Yes, it's drastic but nothing else is working with guests. Now....the cost. Parks need to have "moveable lockers" for a nominal fee ($5-$10?) and using a personal code can access any locker from any ride. Make the lockers large enough for purses, stuffed animals, medical bags, etc. Groups/ families can all share a locker. I know there are tons of logistics involved & that I'm completely dumbing it down but until something changes, these accidents (not only a guest jumping a fence) but accidents of phones flying through the air, rides being stopped because a guest has a phone out, and guests losing items like keys & wallets etc. are only going to continue. The cost for the park will be substantial, but the cost of bad media (let's face it, more than 50% of those that saw the headline only read "Man Struck By Rollercoaster at Kings Island and believe KI is unsafe), the cost of settling out of court is not cheap either. Also- if the injured guest survives, wait till the media & public fallout when he is charged with trespassing. The family of the guest will likely sue KI and the best defense is- he trespassed. -

^ if the failure was indeed vibration fatigue (Silver2005 brought up a great point of coasters hitting the 100mph mark and the numerous issues- and my belief vibration fatigue was likely a major culprit in each example), any type of NDT testing would not be necessary. The pics of the test tape rub marks exclude part failure but rather part design is the culprit. The original bogies could not be adjusted to prevent vibration. It would be interesting to know if the bogies were aluminum like the chassis or steel. Thinking deeper- the revised bogies are "beefier" than the original and the revised parts are still intact makes me believe more parts for the bogies are necessary and Zamperla was testing last week w/o more parts in hopes to get TT2 up and running without compromising safety. -

^ The "first generation" wheel bogies were quickly removed in anticipation for the revised parts currently on the trains. Not sure why that process would change now if the revision(s) were not operating as intended and a 3rd revision is on the horizon. Although I'm totally speculating. -

^ I'm thinking the "announcement" was due to CM. If the new parts come back off the trains, that's going to be a red flag for opening anytime soon. It's not exactly encouraging it has not tested more (which I'm assuming due to lack of video). The social media monsters are losing their minds over the downtime. The Zamperla blame game is rampant. Suddenly everyone forgot about new ride issues with: Intamin, Arrow Dynamics, RCCA, Huss, S&S..... -

Wheels are back on trains. It's a great sign if extended testing takes place day & night- especially for TT2 to be operating for CM next Friday. If testing starts & is limited or stops......ugh....... -

^ Not confirming, just putting pieces of the puzzle together based on pics & personal experience troubleshooting manufacturing machine/ assembled part issues. I could be totally incorrect as to the true reason TT2 is not currently operating. -

Seeing some of the pics with rub marks & dated tape marking tests confirming the rubbing, leads me to believe the vibration was getting progressively worse. It's not a popular opinion, but kudos to CP & Zamperla for doing extensive testing & making the correct call in shutting the ride down after evaluating the vibration was getting worse as the ride "broke in" (no pun intended). I still firmly believe the vibration on TTD was the main culprit in many of the issues the ride had- especially the theming breaking off & the final accident. Seeing the dated tape test also leads me to believe the "fix" may have been getting worked on prior to the ride shutting down. Harry Hogge may believe rubbin' is racing, Cole Trickle & the CP racing team does not agree....... -
Yet another new low for Cedar Fair
Browntggrr replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have a close relative who has taken pictures of NFL games since the early 80's and worked for NFL Properties until the NFL owners decided on starting NFL Network and NFL Properties was dismantled. 10 years go by & he found his copyrighted pictures being used by NFL.com & NFLN. He & other photographers sued NFL for copyright infringement and after a number of lawsuits eventually won. Was it an honest mistake on the NFL's part? Possibly. Was it an honest mistake on CF's part? Possibly. I would expect the NFL to know significantly more about copyright infringement than CF, but either way, it's still wrong and the person that has the legal copyright deserves to be made whole. Can it be considered a new low? That's a matter of opinion. -

Seatbelt addition is the social media guess but adding seatbelts does not explain why extended testing would be necessary. I'm guessing it's vibration fatigue Issue. Modifying or adding parts would be a design change to the new trains and would require extensive testing. The news is frustrating for many, but going from glass is half-full: CP & Zamperla must be doing extensive testing to provide the safest experience for guests. -
This would be the 5th Melt closing over the past 2 years & 3rd announced closing in 2024. SR not mentioning the handful of other recent Melt locations closing and put this gem from the article seen below gives a good idea why there are issues between SR & CP. No issue with SR posting the story, but give all the information, not just a snippet of what you believe. (Added italics & color for emphasis.) It should be noted WKYC posted a similar article that did mention the other Melt locations being shuttered along with Tony's quote that the agreement expired and the entities mutually parted ways. Sandusky Register being excluded from media day is just another example of the slow burn between the park & the paper. SR has over the past decade+ put CP on blast on numerous occasions. Some of the articles have been valid while others have not been exactly fair to the park due to ongoing investigations and the park not being 100% forthcoming with information unless directed by the court through right-to-know requests. SR has taken the process of going through the right-to-know requests as an insult whereas I believe the park is respecting the victims and letting the court decide what information can be made public. Those right-to-know requests has been publicized as CP is "hiding the truth". SR is allowed to print what they believe will sell papers & CP is allowed to only invite outlets they deem to be in their best interests. It's unfortunate that KIC seems to be going through a similar issue with KI but I do not believe putting both issues in the same bucket is fair to KIC. This site/ forum has always had the best interests of the park in mind and has also made sure the comments in the forums represent that without silencing posters. It's a slippery slope but I firmly believe all the admis over the years have been nothing but respectful to the park & members. On a side note- I made a comment last year about the chaperone policy at KI being "lipstick on a pig" and was immediately blocked. It wasn't a shot at the park but rather the parents. Oh well, it is what it is.

There is no "in your mind" as that includes interpretations & assumptions. The only time passholders were permitted access to a special event is when it was noted prior to the pass purchase either in the terms & conditions or otherwise noted for each individual park pass. I suggest those who are unhappy with the agreed upon terms & conditions when the pass was purchased seek out customer service.
-
So terms and conditions mean nothing and is now considered a "subject to change" clause? Interesting. The season pass sales are comparable to prior years- you get into the park from opening day. "Improved upon" is a vague opinion. The only structure that has changed is your interpretation of what you want it to be. Any pass purchased in any year did not include special park events unless noted, and since we all know the Preview Days were not included with the purchase of any 2024 pass, this is no surprise. Surely you can comprehend that..... The optics are only poor to those that did not read the terms and conditions. I have zero problem to agree to disagree. Your shoehorning of "We get it, another the chain can do no wrong person..." just because someone disagrees with you is a pathetic form of manipulating the discussion.

Cool... dude... Here is the Prestige part of the terms.: which, ironically, have the same terms as the Summer Pass: Prestige Season Pass Terms and Conditions Updated July 27, 2023 THE Cedar Fair L.P. TERMS AND CONDITIONS CONTAIN A DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND ARBITRATION PROVISION THAT GOVERN HOW CLAIMS A PASSHOLDER (“PASSHOLDER” OR “YOU”) AND WE HAVE AGAINST EACH OTHER ARE RESOLVED. PLEASE READ THE PROVISION CAREFULLY. IT REQUIRES YOU TO ARBITRATE DISPUTES WITH Cedar Fair AND LIMITS THE MANNER IN WHICH YOU CAN SEEK RELIEF. BY ACCEPTING THESE TERMS, YOU AGREE TO RESOLVE ANY DISPUTE WITH US ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THESE TERMS THROUGH BINDING ARBITRATION OR SMALL CLAIMS DISPUTE PROCEDURES AND AGREE TO WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION SUIT. A Cedar Fair L.P. (“Cedar Fair”) Prestige Pass is valid only at the park from which it was issued and grants a revocable license to the registered holder for admission and use of all available rides (unless restricted by conditions that could ultimately prohibit someone from riding safely, including but not limited to height, weight, age, physical limitations such as pregnancy and heart conditions, or observed inappropriate behavior), shows and attractions on any regularly-scheduled operating day of the season to the amusement park or outdoor waterpark for which it was issued. A Prestige Pass is valid for only one visit per day, and a readmission hand stamp or pass scan is required for same-day re-entry. No re-entry is permitted on select days throughout the season. Passholders may only possess one valid season pass per season. This pass also does not include admission to park areas not open to the general public or requires a separate admission fee. Fees for parking, food, merchandise, games, pay-per-experience attractions, concerts, and special events are not included unless expressly noted at the end of these terms and conditions on a park-by-park basis. It is interesting that you bring up "historically". Why would anyone ignore the terms and think that what has happened "historically" in the past will continue? But dive into "historically" even deeper. When has any season pass granted the holder any right prior to the season open? Dude....

PETA going after Carousels!
Browntggrr replied to OverlandTaxis30's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Replacing carousel animals with bulldozers? In PETA's method of thinking: Wouldn't that promote construction which takes away from an animal's natural habitat?
