Uncivil people are everywhere today. The cost of the event, or lack of cost of the event, is not the issue. Park enthusiasts gripe about pass cost due to wait times. My hometown park is Waldameer in Erie, PA and the majority of the rides are geared to families. While the park is free to walk around a majority of the time, the holidays require all guests to pay for entry. It's during these times when foolish & violent incidents happen. Waldameer has eliminated fireworks to combat the unruliness and the crap still happens. I personally point the finger at the fallout of social media. Some people cannot differentiate between being able to say anything (which is interpreted as doing anything they want) they feel on social media (which has little to no repercussions) vs. being able to do anything when other physical people are involved.

Too true & I thank you for your service as it is very underappreciated. Our family has enjoyed going out to the movies the past couple weekends only to find that the arcade closes early due to some individuals not being able to be civil with each other. Our Cinemark Tinseltown is located in the "tourist" area of Erie so location is not the issue.

Screamin' Demon to Demon Scooby Doo to Beastie to Fairly Odd Coaster to Woodstock Express (whew...) Racer before recaR with red white & blue track (oh....wait.... )

KI needs the media to have a follow-up article that the individual(s) involved have received a lifetime ban to the park and have also been prosecuted to the fullest extent. At some point people committing infractions (fighting, smoking, cell phones out on rides etc.) need to be held accountable and make it publicly known what the ramifications are. The idea that parks sweeps this stuff under the rug & we never hear about it again could be hurting the park more than helping. It's terrible that parks get blamed for these things instead of the actual people committing them.

Good to hear that there was no collision and that the safety measures put into place surrounding previous collisions worked. Imagine if Intamin could finally take a page from B&M's safety book & learn from previous failures....

With the amount of new track work done this year I would venture to guess that a full course train pull-through would be necessary to test possible points of contact riders could have with the structure(s). During the pull-through is where some may have misinterpreted that a train valleyed.

Same thing happened to a glass my wife was gifted from her mom upon graduating from LPN school & a shot glass I purchased at Super Bowl LII She was devastated, I purchased a "new" glass for her. Guess the old saying applies here: They don't make them like they used to......

I was wondering the same about the winter or if the decision was made to start the refurb in November after HH knowing that the impact of Beast being down in May is less than during night rides in October.

This is really spot on. Parks have to decide what to cater to and spend a great chunk of change: the guest that will enjoy their once a year trip and want a ride or the enthusiast who looks for anything to complain about. It's no surprise for all the visual upgrades for the anniversary. It's also not a surprise that some are bummed about a new coat of paint at the cost of a new ride.

My first visit was in 1978 when I was 4 going on 5. My parents & my aunt went on a Sea World/ Cedar Point/ KI trip. Beast announcement was already made & we saw the layout display. Dad made sure we went back in 1979. I was able to get on Screamin' Demon in 1978 (this was after not getting on the brand new Gemini @ CP). My aunt, who despises coasters, thought the ride was over after the first loop and started to squirm her way out of the OTSR. My mom had to pull her back in as the train started to go backwards.....quite the humorous family story now, rather stressful then..... I can remember lunch/ early dinner at IR, the monorail and the original Enchanted Voyage. I can also remember the cotton candy/ candy apple smell late in the day in Coney Mall near the entrance to Racer (this is after the distinct smell of blacktop during the heat of the day). KI was just a magical place for us. To see what it has grown to today & also bring my kids is simply an awesome feeling.

Blueprint under 50th Anniversary Bag hinting at something?

CF really has done great with generating interest in new attractions. Or interest in nothing at all........ -
It wasn't deleted when I quoted it.

The pics seen at other sites were taken on Friday. That being said- the amount of work that can be accomplished by those in the business in a short amount of time will shock many outside of the business.

What an absolute breath of fresh air. Well done KI, well done.

Cedar Fair working with intamin again

The flag plates is just basic angle iron that can be purchased pretty much anywhere. I don't see them required to be purchased exclusively from Intamin nor should there be a reason to have them replaced since they are not designed to come in contact with anything. The pic here is of the front train of MF. Flag plates used for prox switches are at the end of the train which clears a block. I don't imagine a flag plate clearing a block would be at the front of a train. -
Top Thrill Dragster Incident
Browntggrr replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
While there was nothing found in the state's investigation that CP did anything wrong, it does not mean that the legal headaches end for CP- especially since this is not the first incident of things arbitrarily coming off the rear of the trains on the brake run. TTD closing for the year is not a surprise. The parts/ trains of the ride not included in the investigation likely sat untouched since the accident occurred. This also means any physical reengineering (and obvious testing) could not take place. The last report of the victim is she was still considered critical which also plays into the decision to shutter TTD for 2022. The other piece of information that is concerning: there was another flag plate on a different train found to be loose & all train brackets had signs of wear. Showing wear on a part that is not designed to come in contact with anything raises many questions. Combine that information with the theming coming off in 2003, on the brake run as well and it shows a trend of what appear to me enough vibration on the end of train to have things loosen/ brake off. These combined incidents point to a design flaw that needs obvious correcting. What that correction needs to be is a major question mark as it may not be financially feasible to correct or even, more importantly, it may mean such a fix may change the ride enough that it cannot operate as intended- think 1981 Bat with non-angled track. It would be interesting to know the forces on the trains during KK's brake run after the 129' hill compared to TTD's straightaway. -
What would you like to see come back to The Beast.

Music licensing agreements go through ASCAP or BMI for nonmobile entities like KI, bars, restaurants etc. The agreement would be for the entire KI property and covers such things like: DJs, queue music, music used in shows, commercials playing on TV in the park, jukeboxes etc. I have always considered ASCAP & BMI a total ripoff. If a commercial is on TV & has music why would the entity that has the TV and is paying for service get hit again with additional cost for a commercial that paid to use the music?? Or why does the entity that has a DJ have to pay a fee & also pay the DJ who paid for the music?? Ok rant over..... -
Due to the ongoing worldwide covid issues anything is possible, but, I do not think the deal gets done under the disclosed/ current numbers. There are too many question marks about the value of the current parks CF due to covid as well as current properties that have not come online yet. What also needs to be included in the mix is when CF took over properties like Knott's & the Paramount parks, the heads of some of those parks acquired a seat at CF's table. While those parks were purchased by CF, it felt more like mergers. If the offer was larger it would have more of a chance of being put through. Why has it taken so long to have an answer? Probably due to negotiating on the value of the parks (the past two years has done some crazy things to the value of things- think of the current housing & car markets). CF also has to think of the interests of the shareholders- a quick yes or no would have been unlikely under the current market. An initial offer was made, it would be in everyone's best interests for CF to counter offer with a "shoot for the moon" number.

This is just a possibility: Many large corporations like to use an internal tag line that focuses on a specific direction they want to go over a certain period of time. The absence of a specific park & only the CF logo on the mug was something I quickly noticed. "Project Soul" could easily be that line given for a direction CF wants to go in given what we have all experienced over the past two years. If this is the case, it's a nice move on CF's part- I would certainly embrace going to a park and having such a fun & enjoyable time it allows a few hours of forgetting what is happening outside the park. There are many possibilities.
