Cedar Point - First Visit

I have known about Cedar Point for a very long time, and ever since I read a trip report about Maverick back in 2007, I have wanted to visit myself. It has been a little over 3 years, and my first visit to the park concluded today at precisely 2:30pm today. Here are my reviews and opinions about the park.

I caught my first glance of the park from the causeway around 4:50 or so on Sunday. It was sunny and white puffy clouds were gazing above the park. It wasn't an intimidating sight, but I was surely excited. My first day was accompanied by a 10 minute wait so I could use my Starlight ticket. It was the slowest 10 minutes of my life. I was ready to enter the park, and fast. I planned a mental path in my mind by what coasters to hit in order, but once I took my first step into the park, it was apparent that I would quickly forget the path I had lain out for myself. It didn't matter though, I was finally here.

Below are the ride counts for all three of my days in the park, in no particular order:

COASTERS:

  • Blue Streak - 1
  • CCMR - 1
  • Corkscrew - 2
  • Disaster Transport - 2
  • Gemini Red - 2
  • Gemini Blue - 1
  • Iron Dragon - 1
  • Magnum - 3
  • Mantis - 3
  • Maverick - 2
  • Mean Streak - 1
  • Millennium Force - 7
  • Raptor - 2
  • TTD - 1
  • Wicked Twister - 1
  • Wildcat - 1

FLATS:

  • Matterhorn - 1
  • Monster - 1
  • Power Tower - 1
  • Scrambler - 1
  • Skyhawk (Favorite Flat EVAR!!!1111one!!11) - 4
  • Super Himalaya - 1
  • Troika - 1
  • Witches Wheel - 2
  • Railroad - 1
  • Skyride - 1

RIDE REVIEWS:

  • Blue Streak - I was expecting a similar experience to Racer, a bit rough but still a fun experience. I was correct with that. There was really nice air, the bumps weren't all-too-bad, and I enjoyed it. 8/10
  • CCMR - I expected a very tame AE. That's what I got. 7/10
  • Corkscrew - I expected a very tame Vortex. It was a little more intense than I had pictured it, but it obviously wasn't anything to go insane over. Fun ride. 6/10
  • Disaster Transport - WTH is this ride about? I know it has a theme, but I don't know the full story. As far as the ride experience goes, despite the fact that I was completely and utterly confused with what was going on within the story of the ride, I still enjoyed the turns on it. Something inside me says that CP really should have kept this ride outdoors, because to me it seems like it would feel a lot more fun in broad daylight. 6/10
  • Gemini Red - It was a bit rough, but nothing to complain about. Didn't get any air on it, but the group I rode with on one of my rides was hilarious. It was apparent that if you were with the right group, this ride would be hysterical. As far as the ride experience goes, it was enjoyable. 7/10
  • Gemini Blue - See the review above.
  • Iron Dragon - It wasn't exciting by any means, but the layout through the shady trees was neat. 6/10
  • Magnum - I was really, really excited to ride Magnum. In my mindset, I pictured it to be bumpy, quick, and have a little pop of air on the bunny hills when racing back to the station, and once again I was correct. I really enjoyed Magnum, but I will admit I was not impressed with the ride at all. I really liked it though, it sits in my top 10 without any doubt. 9/10
  • Mantis - I heard horror stories about it, mostly because of the seating. I didn't see the point in complaining. Either I was stronger than most, or I got lucky when dispatched on my few rides. I didn't have much pain at all, but the layout wasn't all too great. I hear Chang is better. 6/10
  • Maverick - Without any hesitation, Maverick secured itself tightly in my 2nd favorite coaster spot, right behind Millennium Force and right above Diamondback. The ride was high-paced throughout the entire circuit and the airtime in the back row is outstanding. Amazing, amazing, awesome ride. 11/10
  • Mean Streak - OMG. Slow, rough, bye. 0/10
  • Millennium Force - My new top coaster. I don't really see how people say Diamondback's drop tops it, but it's all personal opinion to me and you can believe what you wish. Personally, the rides I got on it throughout these 3 days were all fantastic. There is air, speed, great turns, I loved it. I305 looks like it tops it though, but I don't see a KD trip for me in a while. 11/10
  • Raptor - Number 4 on my list. My first true inverted coaster, and hopefully not the best. I hear that Afterburn tops it, and if that's true then I'm in for a real treat. 9/10
  • TTD - ohmy.gif Never in my life have I had so difficult of a time for me to consistently sweat from my palms for such a long time. The anticipation killed me, the launch intimidated me, and the height didn't bother me at all. I liked it, but I certainly don't see it as a "fun" ride. Certainly the best adrenaline rush of my life, but not that enjoyable. Worth a re-ride. 8/10
  • Wicked Twister - I mean, it was fun. It didn't really impress me, but I did enjoy the launch. Worth a re-ride. It was fun, quick, and I had a very enjoyable on it. 7/10
  • Wildcat - Fun, but not thrilling. Smooth, which wasn't expected. 6/10

Was my first trip to Cedar Point worth all of the waiting? Certainly so. The park was clean, probably because Cedar Fair loves to place trashcans every 2 feet from eachother. Prices were outrageous as expected. I really, really wish Shoot The Rapids was open. Monday was pretty humid, and it doesn't seem you can get too wet on it, plus it looks fun. Anyway, most of you probably know this already. It was a time that I hope to experience sometime in the future once again.

Video coming soon.

What is confusing about flying Dispatch Master Transport through space with your robot controller trying to avoid space pirates and your robot desperately trying to regain control to crash land you in Alaska? The sad part is that I'm not making it up.
