jzarley
There's a pretty good article in the current (12/19) issue of Columbus Business First about Boomerang Bay and the Beach, under the title "I-71 theme parks kicking up some competetive waves." I checked online to see if I could find a link to the article, but couldn't find it in the online version. The article is written by a reporter from the Cincinnati Business Courier, so it probably appears in that edition as well. There was no new news (to anyone here, anyway) about BB, but a spokesperson from The Beach hinted about their new attraction for 2004: "Preliminary plans for the new feature call for a wrap-around element, a typhoon twist and a free fall drop at the end. Managers hope to fashion the ride into what looks like a volcano, said Tara Nahrup, marketing manager for The Beach." The article also talks about how The Beach and Waterworks (and now BB) have been able to co-exist successfully for so many years. TraderJake
I am pretty sure that this is the article you speak of, you need to register to view it (free) but it has some nice information attached to it, such as the Beach's future plans as well as their desire to peacefully coexist with Boomerrang Bay. They also stress how themes are now an integral part of Waterparks, and the draw that such waterparks have. coasterrz
I don`t think that I needed to register to view the article. The article, while it doesn`t provide any new information, was a very interesting article. I like how they even interviewed Will Koch from Holiday World about their water park, Splashin` Safari. The one thing I have a problem with is that the article attributes the jump in Holiday World since Splashin` Safari was built in 1993 to the building of the water park. It doesn`t mention the two world class wooden coasters the park built during that same period. I do think water parks add a lot to theme and amusement parks. At Coney, people go there because of corporate picnics, or because of Sunlite pool and the surrounding couple of water slides. They don`t go just because of the rides. Beastfreak
Well their jump in attendance probably first started with the addition of the waterpark. Which was before the two coasters were built. Could this "wrap around element, a typhoon twist and a free-fall drop at the end" be another fun slide from Proslide, the same company making our new slides? Sounds to me like a single rider, body slide "Bowl", similar to Tazmanian Typhoon. However this bowl is not at an angle but instead you slide in and drop out of the bottom into a pool.
