Reptarrunner
I'm taking the chance as to sound like a complete moron here, but I've been wondering something, and maybe you all can help me. Why is that rides that are made by the same company, with the same basic design, aren't run in the same way? ie. I'm privledge to run two Miler children's coasters, the Boa Squeeze at Wonderpark Cincinnati, and Top Cat's Taxi Jam (aka the Zoom) at King's Island. These two coasters have pretty much the same design, one lift hill, some track, and a set of breaks, yet they are run completely different. The Boa Squeeze is dispatched using two buttons and will park itself, after it has completed it's three cycles (most of the time, sometimes you have to stop the lift, but none the less it will enter the breaks on it's own). The Zoom, however is much more complicated to run. You must dispatch it, then open the breaks, hold them open, let the train make it back onto the lift, and the open the breaks and try with all your might to close them at the correct time (if closed too early, the train possibly will get stuck and will have to be physically pushed in by an associate, if closed too late you have to send the train around for a third time because part of the train will be on the lift and if you try to dispatch it from this position, the lift chain will jump and it makes an awful noise.) If anyone knows the answer to this I would be quite grateful, just because it would satsify my curiousity. Thanks.
coasterrz
I`m no expert, but I would assume that it depends on the type of ride controls that the owner of the ride wishes to install. For example, at Coney, the Scrambler only requires one operator to run and they must operate the brake as well as hold down a button for the entire ride cycle. While at PKI, two people must simeltaneously push a button. Once pushed, they no longer have to hold down a button and the ride will automatically brake itself. coasterdudeOH
I'm not an expert either, but could the answer be that the 2 different coasters in question possibly be built at different times. (i.e. Taxi Jam may be an earlier version of that type of ride vs. Boa). Just a thought. Edited January 1, 1970 by coasterdudeOH
CoasterKrazy
That's probably right because Tom Cat's Taxi Jam was built in 1992 and Boa Squeeze was built in 2001.
carpetarson
I have got a quick question. I have just found out that my Grandfather was a worker during the constructioin of Kings Island. I want to know if anyone else knows if their parents or grandparents worked there on the orignal construction of PKI. that would be cool. Thanks
