1- Ziplines, Guards and Hobos! Oh my!

Okay, as some of you may know I have been excited to do this zip-lining stuff for a while now, and not too long ago I got the chance to try it out. Rupp Arena was holding its annual RV and Boat Show. This year they decided to mix it up a little by giving their visitors a chance to zip-line across the world's largest arena free with admission (7 bucks).

I decided to get one of my friends in the mix, knowing he doesn't live very far from the Arena anyway, some of you know him as Jordan Hill or "beastfan26" around these parts. This PTR will consist of pictures by Jordan and I. In fact, we are doing this over a Skype conversation so he will also be writing and contributing.

Jordan: Cody picked me up around 6:30 to head out to Rupp. At first, I was seriously scared for my life. Cody + Car = Not a good mix.

While on our way to Rupp Arena, we had quite a few obstacles. Many of them were silly, but very annoying. For one, we became extremely confused in terms of getting to the place, despite the fact that we had been there many times before in our earlier years. We ended up getting lost, if it weren't obvious already. Our ride up consisted of multiple u-turns and expletives toward the faulty and misleading GPS on Cody's windsheild. If it hadn't fallen off, that is. We even found so Chang supports.

Upon entering the show area we were greeted by vast amounts of boats, RV's and cars. We weren't really here for this. In fact, to be blunt we couldn't give two craps about any of it. Me and Jordan were probably the only ones in the entire building that were there for one thing, To try this zip-line stuff out. Neither of us have ever tried it before and we were very excited!

Heres Terpy's car. He has Great Adventures in it all the time.

bring on da LOLZ!!

Here is the main show area, not only did it have boats and RV's it also included small booths that contained everything from Public awareness stations to beef jerky.

You can even see the zip-line that runs from PA booth to PA booth on the top of the first bowl.

SEE. BUT NO MINGUA BROTHERS WTF MAN.

img2108jl.jpg

Like Robb Alveys ego??

NIAYSE. Heres what we were there for!

img2740m.jpg

Heres the hook up areas for the zip-line. The workers would basically strap you in your harness and tell you to walk up the seats to where you can be hooked on and sent out to enjoy your ride.

img2877ir.jpg

Some random kid being suited up. The lady that was doing the work looked like she REALLY needed a break. here fingers were trembling and she was talking about how much it started to hurt. I felt kind of bad for her.

We were presented with a large problem when we tried to sign the release forms in order to zipline. The release forms themselves. We are not old enough to sign these papers legally for I am 17 and Jordan is 16, therefore leaving our chances to zipline at a stop. This presented a huge problem, and our hopes were shattered into millions of pieces. Keep reading though.

Since we really had no clue as to what we should do, we decided to take a quick Starbucks break across the street. Me and Jordan were determined to do this dang zip-line thing. We tried to refund our tickets for another day, we were turned down. We tried for a refund and we were turned down...but, after a quick phone conversation with my mother, who was working in the area at the time we find a solution. She said it would be no problem to stop by and sign the papers. I love momma J!

While we waited for her we thought it would be fun to just walk around and take some pictures, it's what we do.

While we were at Starbucks finishing our coffees we encountered what was perhaps the most enthralling portion of the day, it was not the ziplining experience itself that we would later get to. It was the encounter of a seemingly deranged homeless man. Believe me when I say this was no normal occurance. First off, despite what many are told, this man did not ask for our change, but I was not necessarily sure if he was going to get to it. He was extremely enthusiastic about a specific hat in his possession, which he enjoyed pointing out when he saw the one perching atop Jordan's head. He then continued to comment on my TRON themed shirt, which he mistook for a rock and roll band. His comments were joyous, atleast I think. I couldn't understand him for the majority of the time. We not only saw him at Starbucks once but in the Arena as well. Multiple times, like he was following us.

Now, to the random pictures!

Some Macro shot that Jordan thought was cool. Meh, but whatever.

I kid, I kid.

img2780u.jpg

I swear dude, I took this. Jordan got shots like this too!

img2109g.jpg

Rupp Arena was very fun to take pictures of, although the lights were a pain.

Heres Cody nerding out over the big freaking horn he probably took 49504484 pictures of. Why? I don't know.

Come on you're in Rupp Arena...you cannot not mention it.

There was one underlying factor that Jordan and I were extremely sensing, and not to be rude, but the security guards on this night were extremely rude, and almost intolerable. I'm not sure if it was their questioning on our ability to read or their intense and nagging voices, but they were pushy and overbearing. Not only were they rude but some of them had NO idea on anything. First we were told to sign our own names on the liability papers and then we would be allowed in, we were denied. Then we were told the line for the zip-line will remain open until 10 (when the show closed), well it closed about 30 minutes early. Me and Jordan were one of the last people allowed in line, to only see people get denied.

img2850z.jpg

Awwww no pony rides for the Acer's.... :(

bring on da LULZ!

img2747q.jpg

After a hour of two we were finally allowed in line!

img2887c.jpg

me and Jordan were very anxious to finally get to try it out and when we finally did we weren't disappointed.

In the air it felt so free and open, it added more to the thrill. It gained a lot more speed then i was expecting and it turned out to be a very fast paced experience! It also seemed taller when you were dangling 50 feet above the floor.

Defiantly worth the wait.

img2894f.jpg

Rupp is simply enormous! (insert lame joke here.)

img2893i.jpg

Even some of the guards were trying it out before closing!

Heres a short video:

I just noticed that Jordan wasn't in any of these pictures! Well I'll sneak one in, here you are! the Jordan Hill/AdventureGho/The Beastfan26 picture credit!

Overall it was a very strange but exciting night and in the end did what we set out to do. It was a very well ran event and we applaud Rupp Arena and the zip-line crew for the excellent experience (minus the guards.) 8/10.

I hope you enjoyed reading this report! Until next time, me and Jordan bid you...PEACE

What an extremely awesome trip report! I remember well the day Rupp Arena opened to the public and the LexTran buses drove around on the floor! Yes, I am old enough to have gone to a UK game (or two) in Memorial Coliseum when they regularly played there, but NOT in the Alumni Gym! :)

And no....that's not my car! :) (At least not yet..)

Great pictures, great writing, great adventures! That's what's life's about. Thanks so much for sharing!
