Tips for GYK's SFGAm Trip?

A friend and I are driving up to Chicago on the 14th to visit a friend, and we've decided to hop over to Six Flags Great America while we're there. Basically I'm just looking for tips from anyone who's been there before. Is it a more crowded Six Flags Parks? Would it be worth it to invest in Flash Pass, or is it like Kings Island where most rides hang around 15 minute queues? How's Raging Bull compared to other B&M hypers? Any really surprising stand-out rides? I've also never been on a Superman-layout B&M flier, so I'm looking forward to that just to see how my experience compares with the not-so-nice things I've heard.

I also know there are two Dark Knight coasters (with the other at Great Adventure, I think...) and that one is supposed to be better-themed than the other... Any word on that? I know I'm a little late on this, too, but I'm looking forward to riding the Little Dipper.

I'm not a "credit whore" nor am I kind of person who can be convinced to avoid a ride entirely, so don't even bother! :P Thanks guys.

Myself and two other friends went Aug 4th 2010. We left at 2:30am and got home at 2am.... yeah don't make sfgam a 1 day trip.

The weather wasn't sunny however the crowds still came.

We waited 1hour for Ragin Bull, Demon, Dark Knight, Batman.

45min for Viper and Superman (there crew was amazing not stacking trains) we had them a good GR

30min for each of the 2 Log Flumes, Giant Drop, American Eagle and Whizzer at night

I went on a July Saturday in 2008, it was pretty busy. We didn't have a plan, so we struggled being able to ride everything. If I were you, go straight to Superman first! You still may have to wait a while, but this is when the line is shortest.

V2 is another low capacity ride, so hit it up while nearby. Might as well ride Batman since it's right there. Now it's really up to you if you want to continue the loop around the park, or go to the SW area (Raging Bull).

If you stay on track, continue on to Little Dipper, Sprocket Rockets, Iron Wolf, AE, than to Demon and Whizzer. Than end your day in SW. If you start in the SW, do the same only in reverse.

I highly recommend visiting Hurricane Harbor! They just expanded it with multiple new slides!

Have fun, good luck, and post a huge PTR for us!

I second what DropZone99 said about hitting Superman first thing. Gigacoaster2k and I got there about half an hour after open and waited a half hour. Iron Wolf is the first B&M, but that's where most people stop enjoying it. Prepare for a VERY rough ride if you ride it. SFGAM has some semi-unique flat rides in Condor, Revolution, Ricochet, and The Jester's Wild Ride. Giant Drop packs a punch for what it is. Demon was a huge surprise in that it's a 35-year-old Arrow looper, but it's butter smooth. It's VERY well-taken care of. Wouldn't miss this one. If you like history in rides, King Chaos came from Geauga Lake. Ragin' Cajun is a rough spinning wild mouse, but it wasn't as rough as it had been described to me. Still painful though. Raging Bull is my least favorite hyper. It starts out great, but then slows down progressively throughout the ride and gets boring. It does have one positive thing about it, though. Ride it in the back row if you want some INSANE ejector air on the first drop. The Dark Knight is my favorite wild mouse. Love the theming and love the ride. If it's still the same at the end there's a surprise waiting for you in the effects. I like V2 more than I do Wicked Twister. Ride it in the back if you want some great hangtime going down the straight up spike. I've heard airtime is plentiful in the front car on both American Eagle and Viper. I rode back row on both and didn't get much airtime at all. Whizzer is an interesting and unique ride, but don't expect a thrill. It's more fun than it is thrilling. Batman was my 100th coaster and it didn't disppoint. It's my #4 steel coaster and I wouldn't miss it. WOW! I'd ridden the one at SFOG and liked that one. SFGAm's is MUCH better imo. Finally, I thought the park was okay. The thing I like least about the park is the layout. It makes for a lot of walking. Hope this helps.

Sadly, I have never been to SFGamerica. In fact, the one Six Flags park I have been to (when it was actually a Six Flags park, I went to Kentucky Kingdom the year Chang opened, prior to it becoming a Six Flags park), is World of Adventure, aka Geauga Lake, which is of course no longer an amusement park. One of these days, I hope to experience SFGAm. But time and funds are limited at the moment. (Saving for a house requires a lot of money). One of these years I hope to get to a Six Flags park. Although, I`m not certain that park would be the top on my list. SFoG or SFGAdv would likely be my bets to visit first.
