Cool SOB Picture

I just looked through all their pictures, and they seem to have on rides from the most extreme spots on the rides. They even have one in the middle of the cobra roll on Face/Off, the corkscrews on Vortex, and Rose Bowl again on SOB.

I am not sure about the rest of you but, I have been hit by a camera on a coaster so seeing that picture just makes me sick that PKI let them do that. Yes its a nice picture and how do these people get away with this? blink.gifunsure.gif

Ride ops are instructed to confiscate any camera that we see anyone take onto the ride. There is a camera on the lift so that we can see if anyone whips one out as soon as they get out of the station, usually we catch them and at least stop the lift and yell at them over the PA system. However, many folks know about the cameras and simply wait until they are at the top of the hill - out of range of the camera - to whip it out.

This is a VERY bad idea. You are NOT allowed to bring cameras onto rides, especially roller coasters. It could hit someone. Oh by the way, it is also illegal - its against Ohio law to openly violate a park's posted saftey rules about a ride.

^ Unless of course you are invited by the park or have been given permission.

Take a close look around the site and you'll see that we get a lot of support from the Paramount PR staff. They're in the PGA video, they've been sending me Borg updates, etc, etc....

No matter how much permission you get to promote the park, the bottom line is that there is no exception to a safety rule.  NEVER.  So to clear things up, it was still wrong and breaking rules to bring the camera onto the ride and use it.

Woah....so what you're saying is....when I'm at the park filming, being escorted by the park's PR dept, it's wrong for me to shoot on rides? When I get permission from management, it's wrong for me to shoot on rides? When I'm there for media events, shooting along side the guys from the Discovery Channel, it's wrong for me to shoot on rides?

Wow...you need to get your facts straight.

I dont have anything about people who bring cameras when INVITED or have the permission of Paramount staff. BUT for those of you who do not get permission, just so you know it is a mistemeanor (sp?) to do so. Yes I have called the security of the park about these things, and have held people after riding who I found was using a camera. If you do this, you will get in trouble. So just dont do it.

Well I can tell you getting hit by a camera on The Vortex hurt. I had a black and blue mark on my body for a week.

I have never seen any type of media event in which people are openly allowed to film on the ride. I think they actually attach the camera to the train when the Discovery Channel or the like wants to film it, so there is no risk of someone dropping it. Even if the PR department gave you permission, I still probably wouldn't dispatch it.

For one I have seen Hershey Park let riders take cameras onto the ride holding them. They just provided duct tape and let them tape them onto their hands so they wouldn't come loose.

I would love to get permission to take my camera on to a ride for PKIU, but of course it wouldn't happen. Someone of Mr. Alvey's status in the coaster community is high and he has produced some great work so they give them permission. I mean I'm sure they take measures to keep it safe, not just let him hold it.

Its not breaking the rules when they actually say... yes you can take the camera on.

Management wouldn't give you permission to take a loose camera onto any ride.

Uhh... then why did I almost ride on Face/Off last year with Jeff who was escorting a group of students from Miami University who had a digital Sony Video camera. Their camera was not mounted other than a hand strap (that I could see) and it wasn't the first ride they had been on. Too bad the darn ride broke down.

Robb...

Some people understand

Everyone else...

Shut up unless you really know what you are talking about.
