Sandusky - waterpark honeymoon help

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! We'd like some advice if you know any details! Thanks!

Jeff (count_of_tuscany) and I will be getting married in December and heading out for our honeymoon that night. Our first stop on our roadtrip will be Sandusky, OH. (We wish CP was open!!) We would like to stay 2 nights at an indoor waterpark. We are choosing between Castaway Bay, Great Wolf Lodge, and Kalahari. We were originally leaning towards Castaway Bay, until we looked up Kalahari online and it seemed to have much more to offer as far as water activities (I think the water coaster stood out most to us). We also know that Great Wolf Lodge is around there too. So many choices! Does anyone have any tidbits of info you could pass our way to help us in making our decision? :) What were your experiences at any of these waterparks? Any of them stand out more than the others?

Thanks so much!

I've been to all 3, and the best is Kalahari. Kalahari is the biggest indoor waterpark in the world, and it has so much to do! It also has the candy shop, which has some excellent homemade treats.

GWL was very small, and had not nearly as much to do.

CB was a nice waterpark, but our rooms were very dirty. There were Nerdz (the candy) in between the beds, which were never cleaned up by the cleaning crew. The quality of the furniture wasn't great. This was very disappointing.

If you want the best experience, I would highly recommend Kalahari.

First night of your honeymoon - sure you'll be concerned with the waterslides? B)

Seriously though, I'd say Kalahari or Castaway Bay would both be good choices. Kalahari is huge and has a good lineup of attractions, while Castaway Bay is smaller, but usually less crowded. I also prefer the atmosphere at Castaway Bay; the LED lighting slowly cycling through sunrise and sunset, the more intimate scale of the interior, and the rock-lined wavepool give it the edge in my book.

If I were you, I would call both places and see what they do for honeymoons - I know the other CP resorts have done special packages with chocolate covered strawberries, bottles of bubbly, and other extras for newlyweds.

Congrats on making the jump! May you have a lifetime of love and happiness.
