My Trip to CP - What PKI Needs!

No one said CP was perfect. I just feel PKI should read a chapter out of CP's book and take it into account. You guys are all gloating over the fact that there was an accident on TTD. Why in the world would you be happy? People got hurt.

I've noticed in recent trip reports that everyone is complimenting the crews. Now either they're doing it to make them look better because of this thread, or the crews read this thread and started making improvements. In alot of trip reports lately, the main emphasis has been the crews.

Every ride has their downtime. It just so happens to you were there at the wrong time with Gemini. I was there for two days, it was running all day; both sides except when it rained a little. You're acting like no rides at PKI have had downtime for more than a day. I mean Wicked Twister in '02, was a brand new ride. Wasn't down because of CP, it was down because the track was cracking, who's fault is that? Certainly no CP's. Dragster, not CP's fault. Millenium Force was down because the cable lift system broke. Not a big deal at all. If you notice every ride at CP that you're saying it having problems were all ground breaking coasters. TTD, Wicked Twister, MF, Magnum, and Gemini. But of course every ride (except new technology) will have their problems. New technology including TTD's launch and MF's lift system.

It is sad that the rides department doesn't care about capacity. The public does and that should be one of their cares also...

Now on to the next point. You're fellow employees say it is unprofessional. How is having fun on yur job being unprofessional. Police have fun, firefighters have fun, pilots have fun. Tell them to lighten up and have fun. If work wasn't fun, no one would work. Give me a break.

OK, I went a little too far on that. They care about capacity. But they are not emphasizing it nearly as much as they did last year, at least. I think that they are MUCH more concerned about "guest relations." A lot of you new folks don't understand this. Last year (for me at least), guest relating was something that was reserved for downtime, and it seemed that this was a rather universal feeling.

As for your other point, that is a question that I have yet to have answered. It is not "fellow employees" that are telling me to shut up, they are people higher up in the hierarchy than I am. I have no idea why they find it unprofessional. I asked my sups about it, and one of them said "It just is." Maybe they are afraid that I will inadvertadly insult somebody - that's the only thing I can think of.

Just a quick note for all of you that operate the rides, for the most part, my week at PKI saw no real, problems with the ride ops at any station! (the week of 06-18 to 06-26) Couple of the ops at DZ were great, in a good mood and attentive to their job... To change gears here, and not to knock CP, but, my last trip to CP, TTD did not run at all, 3 out 4 Drop Towers worked half the day, WT worked on and off all day... When entering the park, nothing was said about any rides being down, allthough I knew that TTD would not run, I still asked.. Nobody would say anything... At least at PKI there is a sign out front that informs you of any rides that will not be operating, before you enter the park..

When riding Raptor, I was by myself, waiting for 2nd seat of 1st car..When I got to the front of the line, the front seat had 2 empty, so the op said to move on up.. Now I'm locked in and checked, the sup comes over and has the locks released and sends me back to the 2nd seat... No problem for me except that the next pair of riders had to come from the stairs(about 15 people or so back), the other trains are backed up in the brakes, and 3-4 minutes go by, the ride comes to a complete stop... To me this was very efficient!(LOL) Never happened at PKI, yet..

U missed the point, even when asked what wasn't running, CP will not tell you, before entering the park.. Pki has a sign posted , before u enter, informing u of rides that will not be operating..(you can leave before you pay) Even then, i've been there, and rides that were listed, began operating.. CP's idea is to get u into the park first, then it is too late... And yes, any piece of equipment will break down at any time, you just have to minimize the down time...

Really? I honestly did not know that. The only time I can recall them putting a big sign out in front of the gate or toll booths was the first year SOB was open. Then again, I don't pay much attention to what's going on at the front gate, or during the end of May/August period where staffing is incredibly difficult. Is it in one of those boxes they put those movie posters in or something?

Where's this sign located? I've never seen any such sign at PKI that says which rides will be closed.

So, which ride at CP was definitely closed when you entered the gate that you didn't know about? From what you have said, it sounds like some ride was closed that CP wouldn't tell you about. I guess what I am asking is what exactly was the response when you asked them what rides were closed? Did they ignore you? Did they tell you nothing was closed? Just curious.

That is because to my knowledge, unless something is at the front gate, we dont have a sign ( that i know of) we sit out there and explain to people that we are closed, that we expect it to not be a major delay, we apologize for the inconvience, and all the other good stuff like guest relating while our ride isnt working

Good point Tanner. You really shouldn't base an entire trip to an amusement park for one attraction. The only people I really feel for is those that have to come from a further distance than me or can only afford to attend once a year. So, my guess is, there is no sign at PKI's gate letting you know what's closed?

Right side of entrance when you come off of trams.

How bout this idea:

CP cares about money and getting people out of line as quick as possible. PKI wants a more intimate feeling with the guests, so we talk to them, and have fun with them. Which would you rather have, not as a coaster enthusiast, but as a father/mother with kids?

How about this, CP talked to me and everyone else in line. What I want to know is don't you think it's weird that everyone on this board has had a bad time at CP. Maybe I'm just special, who knows. I think alot of people on this board are kids that get to visit CP once a year, while they visit PKI alot more than once; and they make sh*t up to defend a park for no apparent reason. I mean you're on here defending it, which it is a great park nonetheless; like you own the park yet you have absolutely nothing to do. I'm sorry, but that's what alot of this board is now, a bunch of kids who get their heart broken when someone says what the park needs to improve on. I'd say most of you come here because you're accepted here for what you like while your friends think you are the biggest nerd in the world; which my friends do; but I think it's funny as hell.

Glad to see that everyone is alive in here. Ive been to all 5 Paramount Parks, each one has its'good points and bad.. But overall they do a fairly nice job.. Having a season pass works really well at all five.. I don't knock CP, it is a good park, but my family has a better expirience at PKI. We camp out for 9-10days at a time, which gives us plenty of time to take it easy all week. (some of you ride ops know us as the KI Annual Party Crew).. Having the tram to the park is great for the older kids so that they can come and go as they please.. So being there day after day, we got to know a few of you.... I also understand the nature of working at a park day after day, it is a job.. It could get boring after awhile...

I do have to praise my home park for it’s excellent ride crews and their performance. I’m sure Cedar Point puts a lot of training time into them and the jobs didn’t come easy for these college hopefuls. During my most recent trip to PKI [last summer] I didn’t really notice any problem with the ops, I’m sure I’m to accustomed to Cedar Point. There are still a lot of other parks that need to learn by Cedar Point’s example with speed and accuracy of the ride-ops and I don’t think PKI is one of them who should be worried.
