So at the end of last season and after a few trips North to Cedar Point we decided we upgrade our passes to Platinum passes this year. I did just that during the huge sale. Now today I went to print off the forms to process the passes tomorrow and it says DO NOT DISCARD THE OLD PASSES and it says they are activated already. Now these passes are gold. Now I wouldn't normally care about the color of the pass as long as it works at Cedar Point and Carowinds but I noticed when we were there for ERT and such folks just flashed the Platinum pass and they were on their way. I don't want this to be an issue when we make our first trip up North and was wondering if anyone knows if I can just go tomorrow and ask for them to go ahead and process new passes. I already called the park and the gentleman although super helpful and super nice was unable to give me a for sure answer. Any help or suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!!

Take your paperwork with you. It should get you free parking if your first park isn't where your gold pass is from. Go to Season Pass sales and have them process your new Platinum Passes. There should be no issues.

To add on to this, if I purchased Gold Pass paperwork at the end of last season, but want to upgrade to platinum, can I go and pay the difference next time at Kings Island?

^ Yes, you can upgrade at the park when it (or the season pass processing center) is open. You would pay the difference between what you paid for gold (~$90 last fall) and the current price of platinum ($198).

You can pay the difference at any time during the season to upgrade. And why wouldn't they let you? They'll gladly take more money.

Downgrading, on the other hand...

We visited Carowinds this past week and I upgraded to a Platinum Pass but still had my old Gold pass and when the Parking-teller scanned the card it rang up, as he told us, "a Kings Island Platinum pass", but he let us through anyway. I then had to go to customer service and for a while they tried to contact Kings Island to see what they should do, to no avail, and they ended up giving me a 2013 Platinum pass that let me into the park. They did advise me that I might have to go through the same thing again at Kings Island though.

Carowinds has had difficulty with some Kings Island Platinum Passes for a very long time now.

It's really rather sad. How difficult can getting this working right be? Cedar Fair will soon have owned Paramount Parks for nine years.

Wait, what's wrong with that? If you got a Platinum Pass from Kings Island, then you have a Kings Island-issued Platinum Pass.
