MDMC01
Hey all, MDMC01 here. I don't usually post Kings Island trip reports on the site, but since it was probably my only time I'll be at Haunt this season, I decided "why not?". So, here it is: After paying for preferred parking (because safety, due to what has happened at other parks…) and putting my stuff in my locker, I decided to go visit Sam in Slaughter House. On the way there, I ran into some of my coworkers and we talked. Once in the maze, Sam was delighted to see me once he recognized me, but all of his other family members were a little too close for comfort as they got really close to me and started following me. One even made a pig noise in my ear, which I thought was sort-of funny. After this, I ran into two other coworkers and went over to Madame Fatale’s Cavern of Terror as I’d never done the maze (well, technically, I’ve done a lights-on tour, but it wasn’t the same). I thought it was really well done and generally interesting and not too scary. The objective was to pick out the props from the scareactors, which made it challenging. I also liked that Madame Fatale herself appeared at various points of the maze. After this, I walked around a bit and ended up riding Banshee as the line was really short. I sat in the front and got a face full of rain. The rain was like needles and I had to shut my eyes most of the way. It definitely wasn’t as terrible as Diamondback in the rain, but it still wasn’t pleasant. After that, I was going to ride The Bat, but I asked an associate and he said it was closed. I walked a bit and then noticed it was testing, so I got in line. They were only running one train, and I got an amazing front seat zen ride. After this awesomeness, I decided to text Malem to see where the group was. He replied that they were at Reds Hall of Fame Grille. I walked through Freak Street to meet them there and it seemed a little empty without Big Daddy. I finally met the guys (Malem, Goble, and Silver2005) and we talked a bit and I got a water. After this, we left and started walking down Freak Street. My scareactor friend Shorty approached me and started sniffing me and told me that I smelled good. At first, I didn’t recognize him, but once I did, I thanked him for the compliment (I think he said “you’re welcome” lol) and we went on our way to Boo Blasters. I rode with Goble and let him shoot the targets because as he said “It’s like a game to [him]”. I sat back and relaxed like I usually did and it was a nice break from the cold and rain. Surprisingly, there weren’t that many people in line, unlike the last time I rode. After this, we headed back to The Bat. On the way there, we noticed the enormous line for Blackout, which we guessed because it was new and capacity (as mentioned on here before). I sat in 2-1 with Malem and it was a good ride. In line (which was a station wait), one of the ride ops gave malem a hard time about not wearing a coat, which was entertaining as he pointed out the weather-resistant-ness of his short sleeve athletic shirt. After this, malem and Silver wanted to ride Banshee while Goble and I went into the gift shop and I talked it up with an associate. After this, we headed to Delirium. They said we could sit anywhere on the left side, so I chose a seat facing Festhaus and got one cold, rainy ride. That ride is fun in normal weather and extreme heat, but no bueno in the cold and rain. After that interesting experience, malem, silver and I decided to take on Adventure Express while Goble waited for us at the exit. I sat in the back (second to last seat) and it was really awesome as usual. I liked how the first three tunnels were really dark and the tiki/statue guys actually had their arms moving up and down (well, for the most part…). We then walked into Coney Mall (or should I say, Coney Maul) and they wanted to ride Racer. I sat out and saw one of my friends while waiting for them. After they got off, we went into the $5 store and then I decided to split off. I said my goodbyes and headed down the midway towards Flight of Fear. It was a decent wait, but the line moved fast at times. It was a pretty good ride and again, a nice break from the cold as some of the building was warm. I then decided to do Dodgem on a whim and that was really fun, even though it took a long time for everyone to get loaded in and for the ride to start (there was one false start, and then we were off). After that, I decided to take a walk around the park and ended up doing CarnEvil. The line was the longest I’d waited for a maze (approx. 5-10 minutes), but it was good. It was fun, and only one of the scarectors directly startled me (they clicked this metal thing in my ear). One other part that creeped me out was there was this scareactor that blended in with the purple hazy-maze part of the attraction and it had just slipped back into its hiding spot when I walked by. After that, I felt I had the courage to do my last maze of the night, Delta Delta Die. This one was interesting as it was a completely new experience for me as I’d never walked through it either in previous iterations (Massacre Manor) or even had a lights-on tour. So, as the story goes, it’s a haunted sorority house and the greeter gave instructions that went with the theming of the maze (no photos for your photo albums, etc.). Read these spoilers if you dare! One of the first rooms was a bed themed room with clothes to push through and girls screaming at you from the bottom (think near your legs). Soon after that was a pre-party room with two guys, one of which was dressed like the guy from Curious George. After he scared me, he said “You was scared, wasn’t you?” After that, there is a party room with lights and mannequins, which was interesting. Then, there was this woman who scraped something along the walls, which was terrifying. There was also this person who came close to me, and then lightly blew on me, which was more “oh” then scary. Soon after, came this kitchen room, with no one in it (the female scarector was walking back to her position). One of the last rooms was this room with blue fog and it was really hard to see. The group in front of us got lost, but we found our way thanks to their mistake. After a few more rooms, I exited the maze with excitement that I did it! Enjoying that feeling of accomplishment, I came back to where I started and made The Beast my last ride of the night. I ended up meeting the group up there and malem and Goble were going to look for OhioColts in the Festhaus while Silver was in line. I ended up meeting up with Silver2005 and told him about what I’d done when I’d split off from the group. He wanted to wait for the front like he had planned, so I waited with him and got 1-2. It was a great ride, but the second lift went a little faster than usual. The lights on in the helix tunnel were an interesting touch, but Silver wasn’t a fan. After that, we parted ways and I briefly met up with the group before trying to make the midnight showing of Hot Blooded. Unfortunately, it was down due to the weather and I decided to call it a night. It was a great trip and I’m glad I pushed myself to try two new mazes. -MDMC01
jcgoble3
Great seeing you. Surprised you didn't mention my Boo Blasters score of 2,940. Glad we both had fun.
marth555
Pointing out the weather-resistant-ness of a short sleeve athletic shirt is such a Matthew thing to do
