KIBeast Posted June 13 Share Posted June 13 My son and I went on a trip to Kennywood and Hersheypark the 1st week of June. We left early Tuesday, the 2nd, and arrived by opening at Kennywood. This was our 1st trip ever to Kennywood. I do like the location and size of the park. It's not as big as say Kings Island or Cedar Point, but not real small either. We immediately went to Steel Curtain, even though it was located at the back of the park. It was the one I was looking forward to most. The line was fairly short and we only waited 15-20 minutes. Steel Curtain is by far the best coaster at Kennywood, in our opinion. My only issue with it is I'm an Eagles fan and the logos made me want to barf. It seems the issues with the supports has been fixed and seems to be running consistently. We rode every coaster except Exterminator. I had considered it, but it's not easily visible from the midway and I kind of forgot about it. Jack Rabbit is by far my favorite wooden coaster that they have. The double down is really cool and the 1st time I experienced that. We visited a gift shop nearby, and my son picked up a piece of the Jack Rabbit that was being sold there. Pretty cool at a cost of $50, which I thought wasn't too expensive. Phantom's Revenge was really nice, up until after the 2nd drop. Then it turned into a very painful to ride Arrow. Thunderbolt was pretty cool with the old trains that they use, but I found that one to be pretty rough as well. Sky Rocket was a really good launch coaster, even though it doesn't have much in the way of capacity. Racer was a good coaster. Thought it was cool that it's one of the last mobius coasters in existence. I talked him into riding the Turtle, so that he could experience the ride I loved when I was very young...Kings Island's Tumble Bug. He thought it was cool. Overall, we did enjoy Kennywood, although we did leave before park closing. I was bored after riding most of the coasters more than once. We did ride Steel Curtain 5 times. We stayed at a hotel in Pittsburgh that was really nice. Last time I hit 2 parks, I didn't schedule a day in between, which I did do this time. On Wednesday, we drove over to the Days Inn Hershey (where we stayed in 2019) and checked in. The only thing I did not enjoy about the Days Inn was that they no longer offer shuttle service to the park. We did enjoy the indoor pool and hot tub before going to Hersheypark for a couple of hours. If you don't know, if you present your ticket at the gate and you stay at one of their approved hotels, you can enter the park for a couple of hours. We went in at 5, since the park closed at 7. Even though it was pretty far from the front gate, we went almost all the way to the back of the park to ride Wildcat's Revenge. 2019 was the year that this coaster closed. I have to say, after having been on Steel Vengeance at Cedar Point, Wildcat's Revenge is now my favorite. I mostly like Steel Vengeance, except for the few moments that I get slammed into the lap bar. I did not get that with Wildcat. The one thing SV has over WCR, is traveling on the wrong side of that hill. We rode Wildcat twice that evening while getting a lap on Lightning Racers and Farenheit (we did not ride Farenheit the next day. Line was always long and it's terrible a capacity). The following day, we arrived at park opening and went straight for their latest coaster installation, Candymonium. From a distance, it looks like your standard cookie-cutter B&M hyper. It was a pretty good one though, that packed a pretty good punch. It seems they have a wave turn similar to Orion, but it's not nearly as fun and not sustained as long. We pretty much rode all of their other coasters, except for Great Bear. Great Bear is by far my least favorite invert. We did manage to ride Twizzlers Twisted Gravity. I've only been on Skyhawk at Cedar Point. I didn't really notice that this is the largest S&S swing to date. However, I did like the location. It is fairly near Skyhawk and Comet. If you haven't been, I would highly recommend Hersheypark. I had a Nathan's Famous Hotdog for late lunch and it was the best hotdog I've had to date. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
