On nearly all of my visits to the park this year, the midcourse brake run on Flight of Fear has been turned on, and it also seems that only two trains are being used. Why the sudden change from a rather long period of no-brake rides?

Well, it all depends on how fast they launch you. They could launch you super fast (Like the ride I had today) and brake alot. Or, you can have a slow launch and no brakes. It dose seem like they are launching faster and not braking as much. Also with Italian Job, I almost blacked out in the helix's.

Indeed, allthough at the beginning of 01, there was still just one train, which was a pain, casue we wouldnt get done cycling until like 2 hours after the park closed.
