Right now im not worry about Son of Beast, I worry about Delirium being shot down ohmy.gif

Huh, and me I'm just hoping that the riders on SOB will all be ok.

I'm a little concerned about the park being able to keep this under control and handle it in an appropriate manner that will isolate and lessen any exposure that the park has as a result of the injuries.

LOL!!! look at this!

"“I love it,†he said of the coaster, which is billed as the tallest and fastest wooden coaster. “It’s one of the few roller coasters that I can ride and still get scared.â€Â

Pipoly said that at about the time of the malfunction, his friend who had been near the front of the line for the ride Delirium, was told that there were mechanical problems and the ride was being shot down."

Delirium was being shot down ohmy.gif lol

near the bottom of the story

dont you guys read? one of the guys said Delirium got shot down ohmy.gif i wounder if its ok, i mean common has to take a F-117 to shoot that thing down.

lol for all those who think im being a complete idiot, im just pointing out how stupid some reporters are and how they miss tell the truth, wink.gif

No park needs bad press, and if this incident is made greater than it is, rider confidence will be lost. I have always known KI to be an extremely safe park that did it's best to keep ANY incident from happening. Even for small incidents, a cut or a bruise, a rough sopt on a ride, it was always attended to quickly with an appropriate response. Whatever happened at SOB I am sure was unforseen. Guest perception is the opposite however. They tend to think the worst, expecially the press. My thoughts are stilkl with the guests involved and all those at the park who I know feel bad about even the smallest injury. KI wood coaster maintenance and rides ops are the best! I await definate news of the incident and not the news being spread by the papers and TV stations

Anyone else read in the Cincinnati.com article about it how the ride was "heading out of the big drop and going towards the loop."

Someone needs to step back and get some cold hard facts. The two articles on it I have read have conflicting information.

Just posted this at TPR, thought I'd share it here. I'm here in Sharonville, Ohio tonight (today was spent at Kings Island), and I've got firsthand news on what went on.

I got in line for Son of Beast shortly after I got to the park and took a ride on Top Gun. This was, I dont' know, sometime in the afternoon before dinner. I'm standing there in the station, and a train gets back and a lady doesn't get up out of the seat. She's holding her upper chest, and they called the paramedics and escorted her to the ride's exit gate (she was still there when I left the line).

They send a ride op, paramedics, and a security guard out to the next train that's now waiting on the transfer track brakes, those three guys come flying back to the station yelling to "start the ride and get those people in here right away."

The next train rolls in, and literaly everyone on the train is holding their chest, head, neck, stomach, you name it. That's when all sorts of employees, paramedics, security guards, and other personnel come running up the exit. It literaly looked like a scene out of Saving Private Ryan, people were EVERYWHERE on the path, just lying there.

I took a walk over to ride Racer, Adventure Express and a few other rides, come back to ride Drop Zone. The Timberwolf Theatre over there is just packed to the brim with ambulances, paramedics, and all those injured.

Word that I heard from several people that were near the exit path is that the train hit an abnormal "bump" right before the loop which really threw them around. Take that with a grain of salt, though, because I'm not sure exactly what happened, I'm just piecing together things I heard near the exit (where people were before the Timberwolf opened up to them).

So there you go, an update from the park from about 10 feet away from those injured.

*~* Jon

P.S. - Just saw the note about people with blood coming from their mouths: there were two small kids in the last car that both lost teeth and were therefore bleeding. Other than that, I saw no blood.

That's exactly what I thought. When I first read that I was thinking that the loop was a ways away from the big drop. Of course, after considering it for a while, I thought that maybe I was crazy. tongue.gif Anyways, I hope for the best for the injured, the park, and SoB. May we keep the hospitalized in our thoughts.

And thanks for that info Reality 15!

No problem. I also heard from people leaving the exit that the train "jumped" going down the drop before the loop. Could a board have come up and hit the train from underneath, making the train "jump" and jolt the riders enough?

I'd mostly been thinking of a mechanical failure as the cause for this incident, but I suppose an animal strike is possible as well. It would have had to be a pretty big animal to "jolt" a big train going that fast enough to cause that many injuries. We won't know for sure until the investigation is complete.

screamingnight your mom needs help, Ok listen up, Son of Beast was goin around 75mph when it hit this unknow Bump now, on the road and in a car, you were goin 75mph and you hint a bump. The car is gona flip and do what knock and your probly gona die. RollerCoasters are safer than a Car!

Hmmm!

I'm thinkink that you are driving as fast as your mind operates. Slllloooooowwwwww!

If you hit a bump at 75mph your car best not be flippin over.

I'd be handling a heck of a lot more claims for car roll overs if they did.

The guy that both Channel 9 and 12 interviewed should NOT have been interviewed. He was the one that said he felt like the ride was "jumping the track." He was from Indianapolis and today was his first day riding Son of Beast. Why interview someone that has had no experience with the ride prior to today? I could have told you the ride was rough, that is to be expected with a wood coaster. Maureen Kaiser was shown on both Channel 12 and Channel 9, and stated that the ride would not reopen until the park was certain what had caused the accident was identified and fixed.

I was at the park today in the morning, and left around 1:30. Son of Beast was closed in the morning due to maintenance issues. They had a forklift apparantly inspecting the first drop, and both trains were in the train storage area. The ride was not open by the time I left the park, although they had just begun to test run it when I was heading to the car in the parking lot.

This was the one thing that this ride did not need. The park has worked very hard to make the ride a smoother and more enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, their efforts have mainly been in vein. I have to think that Son of Beast`s days as it currently stands are numbered. I either see it receiving some major modifications in the coming years (ie Intamin style track and trains) or the ride receiving a similar treatment that Hercules at Dorney Park received (replaced by a B&M coaster). I think it is safe to say that most people would not be dissapointed if that happened. Only time will tell how long Sonny is down.

I hope all those that were injured today are feeling better and wish them a speedy recovery.

There's no way the ride was going 75 mph right there.
