Rivets are never allowd on swimsuites. It's posted at both entrances of the water park, at the entrance of the rides and in the rules listed on the map. There are to be no metal anything (rivets included) on swim wear because it can damage the rides. If you have been riding these rides with the same swim trunks on before, it just means the life guard(s) haven't been paying much attention. Kudos to the one who actually followed the rules and let you know.

Sorry if it made you have a bad day, but you can go to GR in the water park and you can cut the rivets out (they usually aren't on for anything other decoration anyway) or you could have bought new ones from Matilda's or something. But know that you know hopefully you will be better prepared next time you visit.

I have been to Boomerang Bay many times this year, but today when I went to go ride the bonzi popeline, they rejected me because my suit has a rivit in it. This is the first time EVER I have been turned down! Has it happoned to anyone else?

Knoxville,

First, let me say it could have been me that rejected you from riding Bondi. Second, let me say that it is a rule I hate enforcing but I do understand the reasoning behind it.

Only three slides in the park...currently...enforce the no rivet rule. They are Bondi, Twist and DUT. Curiously, the double and single at the Kangaroo don't enforce the rules...but that's because it is a completely different kind of fiber glass and the speeds at which you travel are relatively slow. Now it can be argued that DUT is a slow slide now and the harddened fiberglass on it doesn't require a rivet enforcement..and I wouldn't argue with you there.

However, on Bondi and Twist the rivet rule came out of necessity. The type of fiberglass used is very easy to cut with even plastic rivets...much less the large metal rivets found on 99% of my O'Neil and Quick Silver shorts. Once you have to stop dispatch and bandage some people up with cuts on their back or arms...and then shut down the slide...walk the slide...find the cut area...sand that down....meaning the slide is inoperable for atleast 24 hours..while the new resin drys and is sanded properly..and test rode until you are sure it won't cut anyone else....well you begin to believe in the no rivet rule on two of the slides...Bondi and Twist.

Trust me..being a guy...the last thing I wanna do is check guys butts out all day looking for rivets and zippers.

I agree it wasn't ever enforced in the past...and never strictly enforced in the beginning of the year...but a couple of incidences happened that made it a top priority and many meetings and buttchewings followed that made each one of us understand that we needed to enforce the rule to the fullest.

That being said...man do I miss the water park being open..I could use the hot sunshine and the cold water right now:)
