  1. whoopsie...anyways... the pump consists of two parts - the motor and the acutal pump assembly. in pool pumps, the motor isn't cooled by the water - its a separate piece that can be replaced incase of rusting, a broken motor, etc. that way, you don't have to replace the whole pump (very expensive.) however the part about the water freezing and damaging the pump turbine is 100% true. its like trying to drive a car at 80 mi/hr while people are throwing one cubic foot chunks of ice at it. the car will stop fairly quickly.
  2. as i have mentioned before, i work for a pool company and know a few things about pumps. now im sure pool pumps are different than large scale fountain pumps but the idea is pretty much the same
  3. kudos to congo falls (as a ride) for being able to be operated in such frigid weather...other than that... i sincerely hope that pki starts winterfest again - i remember being a young child and skating on the ice rink that was inside the kiddy bumper cars ride (used to be flintstones themed). ahh, the memories!!! i want it back!!!
  4. booger king? are you serious? my friend's dad is a branch manager (you could say he's the big cheese of many stores) and jason (my friend) likes wendy's better than booger king. i, like him, much rather prefer wendy's to BK. either way, pki does NOT need another chain in the park. again we'll use the Cedar Point comparison...they have a johnny rockets and if i recall correctly NOTHING ELSE. all the other stalls are genuine Cedar Point ones. i think subway (just added this year if im right), skyline and larosa's are more than good enough (in the way of food quality and number of brand names in the park)
  5. i hope they announce at least the PLANS for the waterpark soon, i think a lot of people have been itching for a good time now to know what is going to happen. as for the half million gallons of daily water missing, it's a serious problem and could drop back the opening date of the waterpark if pki can't pull an elephant out of its hat.
  6. coming back to the topic, i think pki wouldn't benefit from a 4D coaster...look at the terrain. SFMM is nearly flat and X sits on totally level land. sure, there is some level land for such a coaster, but i think pki should use the hills, creeks and valleys it has if they do build a new coaster. i'll admit ive never even been to SFMM therefore i haven't ridden any of their coasters. i won't say that X is rough, but if arrow hasn't done something to make it's rides smoother, i would probably just ride it once for the fact that it's a one-of-a-kind coaster and not because it gives a nice comfy ride. i'll stick to my guns and say that if pki does get a coaster in 2005 (im betting so) that they should either get a 250+ foot B&M hyper or (if they really had the huge bucks) a sweet intamin giga. this way, it would be MUCH easier to incorporate the awesome terrain they have at the park (look at The Beast and Adventure Express).
  7. all in all, i think this is a little amusing. pki 500.000 gallons of water short. i work in the summer for a pool company testing water, helping clean and repairing pools, and i must say for 500,000 gallons of more water to be NEEDED but not supplied is a LARGE drop of water in the glass of the water system. that's a lot of pumps, filters and liquid shock to keep the whole works running.
  8. i thought i could remember that wooden thing having water running through it when i was a real young'n. (i'm 16, it was WAY back.) does anyone know when the pond was removed? i can't seem to remember anything about a pond or water running through that mine car thing at the exit.
  9. i have two words for you...BUSINESS INSURANCE. granted the liquid value of the park is no less than a hundred million, there HAS to be some type of insurance involved, just like fire and flood insurance you can purchase for your house. if the park is protected by business insurance it's not a lot (premiums would be too expensive) because of the low chance of natural disasters in ohio BESIDES TORNADOES. it wouldn't surprise me to see a twister come extremely close to or go through pki due to the past problems cincinati/dayton has had with the weather.
  10. Flight of Fear all the way...though it was a tough decision between it and The Beast (i love SOB but it gives me chest/heart pains). the ONLY reason i say this is because of the ride it gives from the front seat...its unmatched!!! i rode top thrill dragster twice at Cedar Point this year and it's the same way - the front seat is definitely the best part.
  11. i think it's about time we saw an intamin giga or hyper go up...not just some 225 foot tall coaster...in the upper 200's to lower 300's. that would REALLY juice up the park and show the rest of the world that ohio is not a state to be messed with in the way of coasters. i'd LOVE to see something just a few feet longer than steel dragon 2k. if anyone knows the story, steel dragon 2k in japan opened only months after millennium force did. SD2K is only 8 feet taller and 2/3 mi/hr faster than millie. i'm thinking intamin giga...340 ft. tall, 97-98 mi/hr, 8,700 ft. long. that would blow everything else out of the water cept TTD. our "latest" complete-circuit, full-size coaster we have is OL: FoF and it was built in 1996. 7 years ago! its time we see something big within the next two years...pki is overdue.
