  1. My choice would be "Rawhide". It almost sounds more like a wooden coaster name, but I could definitely see it for this too.
  2. Well, if you don't count waterpark additions or relocations as new rides then the newest is still their skycoaster or Road Runner Express. (2000-2001 era) I think in the last 2-3 years the park has done very well with upgrading (even though it was the waterpark) and getting people in the gate (minus the accident). I know Deluge is a huge hit even when the waterpark isn't open. It's like having a second Mile High Falls, which, of course this year, is SBNO. Now it does seem to be time for a year focusing on the dry part of the park, but you know they're in considerations for next year with the closing of the entire Northwest Territory, so that seems to be a good indicator. My hope, however, is that even if Six Flags does add to the dry side next year, they will sell the park to a company like PARC Management. It was a company of that type that really built up the park in the old days.

  4. I don't think the new names are too bad: The Crypt is a good name and very descriptive of the former TR:TR. Invertigo is also a descriptive and fitting name for the former Face/Off; the only thing I don't like is that there's now no differentiation between the KI and CGA models. Although I still feel it could be removed for a more up to date and non-pay attraction Thunder Alley is actually a pretty good name. Backlot Stunt Coaster is a so-so name. I think Backlot Stunt Track or something entirely different would've been better. I don't really like ride names with the word "coaster" in them. Flight Deck is not a very good name. It sounds like the name for the loading area on Xtreme Skyflyer or the station on the former Top Gun. Some more work could've gone into coming up with a name for this one.
  5. I think Swoop would have been a better choice than either Thunder Road or Flight Deck at this point. But a name like Flight Commander, Flight Cadet, Flying Ace would've been even better. The new names they chosen for KD's rides could've been better, but they aren't too bad. Does this mean that ours and CW's will be Backlot Stunt Track, or will all 3 be Stunt Coaster. And will the Face/Off and Drop Zone names stay minus movie poster references? Nothing is mentioned about KD's Drop Zone.
  6. ^Ironic that those two parks were the one's left unmentioned in SF's capital improvements release, huh. Although the second article does mention that they have most likely picked out a ride to put in it's place after the removal. I'm guessing it's probably just a small ride they've had in storage, unless they bought something from Wild West World (seems unlikely). Anyone have any guesses?
  7. That is priceless. I find it suprising that all the rides were a walk-on today!
  8. Agreed, that would be a perfectly fine addition to the park. Carowinds did the same type of thing with Frenzoid/Southern Star last year, so it wouldn't be an uncharacteristic manuever. Am I understanding this right though? Were Fun Spot's old scooters were being stored at GL for the past 5 years? If so, why?
  9. A ferris wheel is a lookout tower just like a ferris wheel? I guess that makes sense but doesn't prove any point. Take Cedar Point as an example; they have Space Spiral and their wheel right next to each other! But each ride does provide a different experience. Personally I think a ferris wheel would fit well at KI as long as it's not taller than the tower (and I don't think there are many 300+ ft. ferris wheels besides the London Eye and the one discussed above). And IMO the perfect place..........in place of Eurobungee and the laser tag building. A great view of the Coney Mall midway, more traffic in that area of the park, and an end to Eurobungee and that vacant tent looking thing - 3 birds with one stone!
  10. It sure looks that way,it's the same type of chainwide announcement that SFI did back in september...in which every park but SFKK & SFA announced new rides for 2008. That's the only thing that I'm dissapointed in: nothing for me to look forward to locally in '08. Both SFKK and KI aren't known to be getting anything. I must say I'm a little suprised that BB isn't getting a small renovation and/or expansion such as Carowinds is doing. BB is a big draw and we've had two coasters, and a kids area overhaul since it's introduction.
  11. Today one of my good friends and I hit KI for what will probably be the last time this season (unfortunately). We both got passes back in May and they've been put to good use throughout the year. Neither of us particularly cares for the Halloween stuff, so Sunday was our day of preference to visit because we knew there would be light crowds. We arrived at about 10 till, and waited for the rope in AZ to drop so we could ride Firehawk. Today was the first time I've actually ridden it twice in one day because I don't usually feel like waiting in a long line. We rode once and then turned back around and waited for about 15 min. to ride again. After hitting a few more rides we went out to the car for lunch around 12:30 because my friend hadn't really been feeling that great (which is unusual for him), so we decided to rest. We came back in and rode some more, but eventually he realized he wasn't really feeling any better, so we resorted to doing some other things: I took some photos, we watched some people play the three-point challenge, we also visited the discount shops for all the Paramount merchandise, and I left the park for the day with five pieces of Paramount apparel for $15, not bad. They have a bunch of shirt racks outside the KI Keepsakes shop where you can buy 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. Also inside they'll give you a bag, and you can pick as much merchandise as will fit in the bag for $10. I didn't get any of that 'cause it was mostly stuff I didn't have a use for, but still not bad deals. I did get a couple of Winterfest items, one even without any Paramount branding, but it was still only $5, because it was something they would have sold with the Winterfest merchandise. We left the park around 5:30 because we'd done a good amount of riding and my friend was not in a position to do much more. Both of us would have liked to have ridden Sling Shot, and probably would have it they had kept the price at $5 the whole day, but it was changed to $10 later on because they had a lot of takers. (Should have bought the tickets when given the chance. ) I finally rode Skyflier for the first time back in early September and thought it was great, and I was hoping to get a first ride on Sling Shot, but it looks like that will have to wait until next season, oh well. I noticed a fair amount of enthusiast types walking around the park today. I didn't talk to anyone, but there were people with PPP shirts, a couple of people I recognized from KIC day, and some others that I overheard talking to an AE ride op about a part of the train that no longer exists I guess it was. I didn't catch all the words they were saying, but they seemed to be knowledgeable about the subject, and one was wearing a Top Gun sweatshirt, so it seems likely that they were of the enthusiast circle. One other thing I noticed from the day was that SOB seemed a whole lot smoother than it did 1-2 months ago. Today marked one of the best rides I've ever had on the coaster. On the flip side Beast, although not rougher than usual, was not so pleasant. I'm thinking now that the G-trains might not be so bad on this ride after all, at least for the rider's sake. Both of us were eventually stapled by the ride as is normal, and being a taller person, myself, the lapbars on PTC trains don't leave much legroom especially when you're stapled because you have to point your legs inward anyway. Anyway, I find the new SOB trains much more comfortable. Overall it turned out to be another good day for being at the park, not too hot, but not too cold. My friend although not feeling well for part of the time, enjoyed it as well, and he felt fine on the return trip. And we got to do some things we don't normally have time for at the park. On a side note, I was impressed with all the HH decorations, even though Halloween events aren't really my cup of tea, and I personally think that the mature themes that KI is going for this year are over the top, the sets and scenes throughout the park were well done in terms of decorating, and they left the mature content inside the actual Haunt attractions. So yeah, overall it was a great day. Hopefully I'll get to visit again before the season's out, but if not, this was not a bad way to end it. I hope you enjoyed my trip report.
  12. Cool, a SFKK topic! I was looking forward to hearing about a new addition next year as well, but it seems they won't be getting anything. Deluge was a huge hit this year and was a great decision on the park's behalf. But like Jay said, the Northwest Territory is definitely the place for the next makover. I'm just suprised and kind of dissapointed that they didn't put that in the 2008 calendar. Top Eliminator Dragsters has been blocked off for about 2 years now if I remember right, and they desperatly need to open that pathway back between Thunder Run and Twisted Twins, and if possible, do something to widen it (it was a very narrow pathway between the two coasters). I guess IMO, the park could really use some flats and/or other family attractions to round out that area of the park. All it has now is Mile High Falls, Twisted Twins, and the Zepplin ride (which no one seems to go on). But it is a very well-themed section of the park. It just needs to get up to date so as to attract some people back to it.

    2008 Coaster?

Well, I've been thinking that a waterpark expansion would be the obvious choice for KI in '08, although removing Down Under Thunder didn't occur to me. Actually, for a while I figured it'd be Snowy River Rampage (Rushing River) since the first couple times I went to the water park, that entire area was roped off. I'm hoping that won't be the case, though. Now there is a small patch of cleared area to the right SRR's slide tower (as your going up to the ride). I wonder if they could do anything with that. And if removing DUT is true, they could almost connect that area to the clearing by way of bridge over the lazy river. Well.......that might be kind of a stretch, but the idea came to mind. I guess the thing that's most clear to me is that BB seems rather one-sided and needs a more rounded-out layout. There seem to be two main sections: The area just to the left of the entrance with the lazy river as the center, and the long strech out to the wave pool and TT. The first, in my opinion, should probably be a little more opened up (which removing DUT could help with), and the second needs more on the left side. As you're walking back to TT everything is on your right (wave pool, flow rider, restaurants, lockers, ect.). Now I've been told that you can't put anything under the power lines in the field to the left for saftey reasons, although would it be out of the question to move these to the forested area even further to the left of the pathway? I'm just throwing ideas out there. I have no idea if that's feasible or not, but other than that, there really isn't anywhere for BB expansion to go besides the existing parking lot, taking down more trees, or removing existing attractions, none of which sound particularly good.
  14. Has anyone seen that on the official HH site they have a section labled escape route? It's like a park map for the event. The map doesn't include NU or BB as might be expected, but it also omits SOB and Firehawk. Anyone have any idea why this is?
  15. Ouch, an extra $20 for passholders! I personally would find this unfair if KI did the same thing (and I have no reason to think they won't). I mean the October operating dates have been on the calendar all season, probably giving many passholders the impression that they have plenty of time to visit the park with this season's pass. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's what I've seen.) Now KI does have their back covered with (as copied from their site) "Although it happens rarely, our schedule is subject to change without notice and we advise that you check the times on our website before you visit the park." Nevertheless, I just don't think it's very smart for the park to suddenly take away nearly all of October (it looks like we'll still have regular operating Sundays) for passholders unless they want to pay the $20. Now I'm one of those people who would really go to Fearfest because the park was still open, and I could still ride the rides. It's not that I think that the haunts aren't worth money, and it's fine to charge for them. But IMO, they're going about this the wrong way, and making pass holders pay for this when they didn't have to in the past isn't smart since the procedure for operating the park's rides aren't really changing much. But I do have one question that could change my opinion a little: Last year was the park open on Saturdays at say 10 am, or did they do it like they're doing this year and open it at night?

    My 8/14 Trip

Interesting........I might as well put in that yesterday (8/13) when my friend and I visited, we packed a lunch as well. It's just too expensive to eat a full meal in the park. I only ever buy a snack or a drink.
  17. ^And me! (in the blue shirt on the left) standbyme, I can totally relate to your trip report. I also came alone to the event on Saturday, getting up at 5:45 to get there on time. If I had known you didn't have a partner for the scavenger hunt I would've done it with you. Were you in the first or second group that went into the sign shop? Going alone I didn't know anyone, so I didn't have a partner either. I actually didn't really end up meeting too many people. I did talk to you TopGun and I think pkiboy as well. I would like to thank everyone who organized it, though, even though I didn't get to really meet any of you; you did a great job! One thing I especially liked was the video presentation in the theatre after dinner. The IJ:ST and Tomb Raider vids with Jeff and Maureen were very funny, just cause of how much I've read about them on these boards and such. And I'd actually never seen the entirety of the 25th Anniversary Beast video until then.
  18. Woot! I'm so looking forward to everything tomorrow. I need to get some sleep though, too.
  19. Compact B&M Dive Machine built partially over Rivertown Lake and weaving in and out of the trees.
  20. I can't imagine why you wouldn't want a meal ticket 'cause you actually get to eat in the International Restaurant! Plus it's all-you-can-eat.
  21. I've RSVP'd, but have yet to purchase a ticket. Hopefully it'll be within the next couple of days. Right now I'm just glad they let me request off at work.
  22. Wow, this sounds great; I really hope I can make it. This was going to be the year I finally went to BeastBuzz.....................until they cancelled it. But this sounds like everything BeastBuzz would have been and more. And you don't even have to be a club member to come. What a great idea!
  23. Firehawk Delirium Vortex Beast Avatar I really wish I could say The Beast is the best, but it's gotten to the point now that I prefer others. At least Beast never has a long line.
  24. Yeah these type of sites always seem to share images. But I prefer this to Google Earth because of the bird's eye views. They've been very helpful with my RCT work.
  25. I don't understand why they don't put a couple loose article boxes/bins in the middle of Firehawk's station. I would guess because they want to earn money on the lockers, but in that case why haven't they taken away the boxes and bins on all the other rides? Edit: Post 100!...........A local after 2 years
