  1. Also, no videotaping is allowed during "Snoopy Rocks On Ice" due to music copyright laws (though they tell you this at the beginning of every show).
  2. http://www.usatoday.com/travel/destinations/10great/2010-07-22-roller-coasters_N.htm
  3. It has always amazed me that people can do that. I used to have a regular Etch-a-Sketch and the lesser-known Etch-a-Sketch Animator.
  4. I sincerely doubt Six Flags chose to advertise on this site specifically. The system works based on keywords - the person setting up the ad campaign specifies certain keywords which should trigger the ad, and Google displays ads based on keywords it finds on the site. I'm not sure why Six Flags feels the need to resort to Google Ads to get customers (surely there are better ways to reach customers), but I guess they feel it will generate more revenue than other advertisement methods.
  5. I'm guessing it's a game that you have to beat or something like that.
  6. I think the best thing we can do at this point is to email comments@cetconnect.org and express our interest in having a DVD of the documentary and/or having it aired on TV. Maybe we can at least convince them of the significance and importance of this documentary, and save it from being lost when someone decides that material by former employees should no longer be on the site...
  7. You can hear the tail end of it on this video: It sounds whenever the ride is opening following a period of downtime to warn any maintenance or other workers who may be near the track to clear the area so they don't get injured by a moving train. That sound is usually followed by loud cheers and a sudden rush of guests moving in that general direction (since it can often be heard throughout the park).
  8. Yesterday must have been the day for random music at KI. I heard both "Under The Sea" and "Cruella DeVil" in Planet Snoopy, and later in the day I heard "Can't Touch This" by MC Hammer in the Rivertown area.
  9. Hamilton has a single mobile speed camera. It's a specially-modified SUV that they can park someplace to set up a temporary unmanned speed trap.
  10. I wonder if CET would be willing to sell him the rights to that documentary. That would allow him to do what he wanted with it (such as producing a DVD that could be purchased through KI...)
  11. UC has announced the dates/times for their "meet the Bearcats" days at KI this year. Here's the schedule. All meet-and-greet events take place from 1-3pm on the date specified: August 14th - UC Volleyball August 21st - UC Mens Soccer August 22nd - UC Football October 2nd - UC Baseball
  12. Sad to see that it's gotten so bad that they're merging PBS stations. Maybe Ohio's stations should all network together much like Kentucky stations have done with KET. It's a shame that this guy went to so much work to produce such a wonderful documentary only to get the "edit it or we won't air it" treatment, and now he's lost his job entirely. It amazes me that stations don't seem to understand how valuable local documentaries can be.
  13. For those who aren't familiar with Newport on the Levee, one of the things we have is a "parking refund" booth - basically a way to encourage people to see movies at the theater there despite the fact that you have to pay to park most of the time (except between 11-2 Monday-Thursday on non-holidays and days when the Reds don't have early afternoon games...). Guests need to show a movie ticket and their parking ticket to get all but $1.25 of their parking fee refunded. I usually take my Diamondback souvenir cup to work with me and fill it up at the water cooler in the office before heading off to wherever I'll be working that day. Saturday, I was working at the refund booth. A lady walked by with her kids, noticed the cup and told her kids "someone ELSE went to Kings Island!". I thought it was funny that she said it that way - almost like she was a bit surprised to see that someone had been to KI besides them. Also, I'm sort of the envy of many of my coworkers due to how often I've visited KI. One of my coworkers told me the other day that he hadn't been to KI in forever, then proceeded to say that the last year he was there was the year they put Diamondback in. Not visiting KI in a year isn't what most people would consider "forever" (though for someone like me it would be - I'm already considering it "forever" because I haven't been in a month...)
  14. Since many people here are likely not familiar with the park: http://www.arnoldspark.com
  15. Not quite that bad. According to that site, the photo was taken around 1914. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics inflation calculator says that's equivalent to about $2.18 in today's dollars. Still, that's a bargain compared to what you pay for a root beer at KI these days.
  16. Interesting to note that they just lost that contract in Arizona, because their North American branch is based in Arizona. I find it hard to take this company seriously. One of the videos they link to in the "recent news" section of their website is this: <embed style='display:block' src='http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:cms:item:comedycentral.com:340733' width='360' height='301' type='application/x-shockwave-flash' wmode='window' allowFullscreen='true' flashvars='autoPlay=false' allowscriptaccess='always' allownetworking='all' bgcolor='#000000'></embed> I'm not sure what they're using for this, but I would not consider The Daily Show a credible news source, especially since they're better known for making fun of current news items.
  17. For whoever wanted proof that it goes the same height now as it used to... Home video from last year: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>Home video of test cycles following the part replacement in 2005: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
  18. Haven't decided if I'm going to come or not. I'd love to, but I have to work until 1am tonight, so I don't think I'll be able to get up that early tomorrow.
  19. So, Attendance, up seven percent Out of park spending, up three percent Per Caps, down three percent When are they going to learn their in park pricing is hurting them? Once Kinzel is gone, or someone teaches him that hoarding nickels isn't a good thing...
  20. And now they get to have fun telling potential future employers exactly why they were fired from their previous job... I hope these two idiots are happy with themselves.
  21. Don is the only "executive" person I'd recognize, but I do see him out in the park quite often. I've also noticed quite a few "shirt and tie" folks walking around sweeping this season. While I don't know the reason for this (it could just be that that particular department is short on help this season), it's always good to see management folks out and about - it shows that they really do care about the guest experience.
  22. It also depends on where you eat within the park. Some food stands are a much better deal than others. In the case of hot dogs, the best place to get them is Snake Pit, where you can get a jumbo (half-pound) hot dog for $4.25. A "regular" hot dog will run you $6 at Planet Snoopy Grill.
  23. Saturday was the last day of Spirit Song, so that's why it was so crowded.
  24. According to Mondial's website, that ride is actually called the Jet Force. Their Revolution ride is similar to the Huss Giant Frisbee.
  25. I'm really wondering why KI was still letting people into the park if so much was shut down. Did they at least tell guests what was going on before taking their money? I don't understand why the park didn't give refunds or discount coupons. It would have cost them a lot of money, but it would have kept their customers happy and possibly could have earned them a lot more money in the future, especially since it might help them recover some of the money they lost from food/souvenir sales that day.
