  1. False. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw it come back sometime in the next few years... just not this year. It was a four year agreement, but they have the option to extend. Nick isn't being removed. Not now, not soon. 1) Correct 2) You've been missing out BIG TIME in the past few years. I'm no animal expert, but I really doubt you'll see the extensive return of animals to KI ever again. It's kind of like how you can "work hard or work smart." I honestly have no idea how much money they're putting into the park this year, but I can assure you that the 2008 season will be as exciting or more exciting than any season in which they add a ride. That blurb is what we call an understatement. Yeah, the season's extended through the first weekend in November. No Bare Bones is scheduled this year to my knowledge, however that does NOT reflect a failure. In fact, people reacted rather well to Bare Bones, all things considered. Seriously... 2008 is going to be a GREAT season! Old ideas will be become new again, we'll have that "new ride name smell" in the air, and maybe even a peak into the future. That blurb is straight from the 2008 Kings Island Brochure. Word for word. So if it is an understatement, then they are underestimating themselves.
  2. It would depend on many bottom dollar sales. I could see it happening. I mean, with The Beach Waterpark and Great Wolf Lodge Neighboring the park. How many waterparks does this one exit need? I think that if Cedar Fair reps. see something that we cannot see that would equal a higher profit for the park, then yes, I do believe that it could happen. As my professor in Park Management, Henry ( Buz ) Burline always said, "After reviewing all possible courses of action, parks can invest in what is concluded to be worth the merit. Sometimes this means starting over by reinventing yourself."
  3. To add to this, I am not sure but didn't BareBones run into the 1st week of November. If this is right, I guess that the Nov.1 date also means no barebones. Or is it only defining Halloween Haunt's run through the 1st, and Barebones being completely seperate. But then again, the parks highlighted schedule on the map ends on November 1st, so probably not.
  4. I would add more lights, and make it into a fully lit building. I would also add mirrors along all of the walls, like the mirror that reflects the ship in the line. It would make the coaster look so much bigger than it really is.
  5. To be honest, I never take the time to read through everything on here. So if this has been brought up before, I apologize. A couple of friends and I went up to Columbus for a couple of days, so rather than suffer the drive back and forth, we stayed at a Days Inn, where they had a flyer with a map for the 2008 K.I. season. The map doesn't show anything updated, but the entertainment section says "Something for everyone in the family" From Ice Skating, non-stop island rhythms to Dora the Explorer Live, Kings Island's 2008 entertainment package has it all! 5 family friendly shows highlight the season-long program, which will have guests singing and dancing in the aisles. It also says that Halloween Haunt will operate every Friday and Saturday night until 1am from Sept. 26 - Nov. 1 So, by reading this, I am assuming that the Nickelodeon Parade is not happening again this year.
  6. I am looking forward to seeing the Ice Show. I did not get a chance to see one last year. But I do remember the shows from way back when. They were just great.
  7. Oh, I don't know. Nothing to do with K.I. but I once saw a couple park in front of the door to a Subway in a Wal-Mart plaza. If your going to eat Subway, doesn't this kind of defeat the purpose. I don't really miss the trams. I never rode them anyways. Now that they are gone I kind of wish that I had of at least one time. But I am sure that the cost of fuel is a big part of the reason that they are gone. The only park that I cannot imagine not having a tram is Busch Gardens Africa. As far as the parking lot, it is not the biggest deal if they change the names of the rows or not, but I could understand if they did. And I could understand if they didn't. I never read where I park. I just guesstimate how far I have to walk. But usually I show up early so that I can park close. However, I can say that I was dissapointed when they got rid of the Hanna Barbera Characters when they represented the parking lot. Actually, I would prefer it if they removed the paramount themed parking lot rows. It would just seem to catch my attention to park in Top Gun # whatever if there is not even a Top Gun anywhere in the park. Since they changed all of the names officially in the park, I would prefer that they finished what they started, rather than see remnants of the Paramount era lying astray here and there.
  8. If you could submit a One or Two paragraphs at the most. And what you wrote was to be published for a book about Kings Island. But you could ONLY write about One thing about Kings Island. And say that it could be about anything in the park. In the park meaning everything from the parking lot to the Eiffel Tower and in between. Professionally, what would you have to say? By asking this question, I am trying to get to know each members individuality. Nothing says it ( to me ) in such a way as someone describing something that they enjoy in detail in their own words. Please keep in mind that I am not asking for experiences, I am instead asking for descriptions of One thing that you enjoy in a way that goes straight to the point. ( That came out kinda funny...The point..not Cedar Point, and not Kings Island's Signs Exclamation Point. ) And NO I am certainly not planning on writing a book. I just think that this could be a neat topic to see how people write.
  9. Merch Maintenance... have fun repairing those lockers and ECVs. Also, be nice to Michele and Karrie, because they are awesome. In fact, be overly nice to them. It always is a good idea to be nice to the bosses when a large part of one's day can be spent in the back of the Rock Shop / Attitudes / I haven't been to the park since I stopped working there in 2004. Christian? Aaron?
  10. 300 new animals. This park is nice. I got to go there in 2006 for 2 days. I hope that they keep growing and become world class.
  11. You handle every necessary function of the Merchandise Department. You work pre, during, and post season. The job requires being at least 18 years of age. You work all Merchandise Shops in the entire park. During the preseason, the job requires assisting in setting up all of the shops. You paint lockers that need it, you reassemble and then place all locks back on locker doors. In some cases you put on the doors. You prepare all strollers, wheelchairs and ecv's for operation. Powerwashing the locker areas in necessary, as well as maybe having to powerwash near the main entrance. If the park recieves new strollers or etc. Merch. Maint assemble them. Any new cabinets that go up in the shops are assembled my this dept. as well. The job during park operation includes Quality Guest Assistance, which is always #1. Cleaning and restacking of Strollers, and lining up wheelchairs and ecv's. If ecv's break down we have to go into the park and push them back to the front gate area. We are allowed to operate registers, and stock merchandise. If Guests lockers will not operate, it is our job to manually unlock the locker. Each member of Merch Maint is in a Supervisory position over Merch Shops and can fulfill this duty only if necessary. ( someone calling in for example, or a day of very high attendance) Merch. Maint associates also can drive through the park during times that the park is closed. This comes with a lot of responsibility and a good driving record. The park issues you a special license for this. You also assist in Warehouse deliveries, clearing and filling overstock trailers, and you learn to make fudge for the 2 shops that require it. Obviously, as the name indicates, general maintenance is required of the job title, such as painting, powerwashing, assembling, hanging signs, etc. Merch. Maint is usually always assigned a job at TimberWolf concerts. Part of this job requires walking around the park ( never alone ) and collecting money from the penny pinch machines, which you must take to the parks cash office. We also perform general maint. on the penny pinch machines come to think of it. And now we have to help run the photo booths for rides. If customers require riding in a rented wheelchair, or ecv out into the parking lot to leave for the day, etc, they must have an escort which is usually someone from Merch. Maint. The dept. also handles the storage of unused props and equipment from merchandise shops throughout the entire park ( including the waterpark ) You will always have a pager on you and can ( and will ) be paged from one side of the park to another at any given time. You are allowed to bring your own bicycle which you may ride behind the scenes from ( for example the frontgate to Boomerang Bay. ) When you have this job you are required to clock in at the Retail Sales Office, and you will spend a lot of your offtime ( if you have any ) in this office. So if someone has seen an associate in the office or in any office, this is probably when. Or they were probably paged to meet someone there. ( someone is probably an area manager or higher ) It is not because they are not working. You are always working while in Merch. Maint. Chances are if you are in this department you will be at the park for most of the day if not all during park operation on weekdays, and you will be at the park from open until around midnight on weekends. If I missed anything, I am sorry
  12. I was just wondering how many people on here have applied or are planning to apply at Kings Island for the 2008 season. And if you have already been hired, where will you be working. I will be working in Merchandise Maintenance while attending summer classes at Sinclair.
  13. I think that they will keep the name. At least for a little while. Because, there are Bubba Gump Shrimp Shacks in other locations. ( As previously mentioned. ) I don't know how many, but I did see one at Universal's City Walk in Orlando.
  14. At Kings Island: Hands Down...Firehawk Anywhere: Millennium Force Wood: The Beast Themed: Expedition Everest
  15. Back in 1995. When the international showplace played Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch ( Play that Funky Music White Boy ) and M.C. Hammer ( Can't touch this ). Oh my goodness, I had to work right across from that show for the entire season at a now defunct food shop called Showplace Drinks. Those people could just not sing. However, the Karaoke Connection by the Royal Fountain in 95 was entertaining. And so was the Cheers Show in the Festhaus. But the Cheers show was not as good as the previous Ice Shows. I'll never forget people changing the words in the Karaoke into something vulgar. and the host having to say, "We need you to stick to the words that appear on the screen you'll see on the stage when you get up here, because Paramount's Kings Island, AFTER ALL, is a family park!"
  16. Make a garden, put in a K.I. Museum, or Add a Little Gazebo or a small chapel for in park weddings, and fit the surrounding area to match. This idea came from reading italianchefs where would you get married in the park poll.
  17. FLIGHT DECK- ( painted red and black ) "RED BARON" Invertigo- "DEJA VU" or I know that copyrights can't allow this but.."THE HOBBIT" ( There and Back Again ) Drop Tower- "ACROPHOBE RISING" or "DARKNESS FALLING" or "SCENIC VIEW" <-lame or "DARK TOWER" THUNDER ALLEY- "WHEELIN" or "X-TREME BUMBER CARS" or "TAILGATE" Backlot Stunt Coaster- "ALLEY CAT" or "Action Zone"...The Ride or "CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION" THE CRYPT- "PHAROAH'S FURY" or "ABYSS" or "LIMBO" or "FIRE AND ICE" which is lame or "HYPNOSIS" CONGO FALLS- "AMAZON FALLS" or "WORLD'S END" or "BLACKFOOT FALLS" <-exact same ride in Valdosta Georgia.
  18. You know, I have to throw my hat to this topic italianchef. I believe that it is excellent. It has got to be one of the absolute best topics that I have ever seen on KICentral. ( just in my opinion ) And you know what, I think that if Cedar Fair reps. are reading this, they should consider making an area of the park just for weddings. Someone commented on Dollywood having a chapel. And I don't know about Dollywood, but Disney makes a fortune on their weddings. ( I have a friend scheduled to get married there this year. ) But in all seriousness, Kings Island should invest in making a chapel and surrounding theme for people to rent out for weddings. Shoot, it would even be an excellent transformation for the Paramount Story in my opinion. But to answer your question, if the picnic tables were cleared out, and some flowers and lights were put up, the one place currently in Kings Island that I would choose to get married would be the Vine Tunnel just to the left of Nickelodeon's Entrance. It would be pretty. I remember how beautiful it was back when you could walk all of the way through it, especially all decorated for WinterFest. In a way, the location of this tunnel being right between Nickelodeon Central, and The Main Park kind of symbolizes the step between being innocent and being a child, and taking that deep breath before the necessary plunge of adulthood and the maturity required for a successful marriage. Plus I have really good memories of the place all through my life.

  20. Many people would love to have the movies mirror the novels, but that is almost impossible unless fans and Warner Brothers were willing to give up many other things. Namely: - The movies would not be able to be released as quickly as they have been. - There is no way the last four movies would be under 4 hours each. Production companies want to keep most movies at a reasonable length under 3 hours. Sure there will be some exceptions, but those would be individual movies, not a series of movies like HP would be. - The main 3 characters (Harry, Ron, Hermione) would not be able to be played by their current actors for each movie. Even as it is today, it is difficult to imagine that those characters are only 15 by the way they act and look in the movies. Adult versions of Harry Potter? I'm sure that you realize that these books & movies are supposed to be for younger kids. Your "adult version" sounds like something you would pick up at 3:00am with a roll of ... Well you get the idea. Not at all. But I do respect your opinion. Maybe, I worded it wrong. In my words "adult version" would mean, darker, creepier, with all of the details of the books themselves. I'm sorry, but when I read the books, I don't imagine so many child friendly places. Rowling's ability to write is rare to choose just one word out of a thousand to describe her. She is capable of creating chilling places and events. Some that I feel are too dark for children, but they read them anyways. For example, in the half blood prince, when Harry and Dumbledore are in the cave. I am going to make a prediction that says half of what happens in this scene will be cut out of the movie, and the other half will be lightened up a bit to make it more kid friendly when the movie comes into theatres. When I say "adult version" I am saying keep everything from the book, or at least as much as possible. The Lord of the Rings made Billions, and it was clearly meant for adult viewers. And each film was 3 hours long. The special edition was even longer. I'm sure Harry Potter would do just as well if made in this manner. Who am I kidding, Harry Potter would do well made in any manner. But I just think that some approaches would be better. That's what I am trying to get at. I am not saying that I do not like the movies, I just think they could be better.
  21. WOW, thank heavens that millions of people around the world disagree with that point of view. Why? I agree that it's good that the stories have urged people to read, but it is as predictable as a Scooby Doo episode (not that I'm slamming Scoob). Well, I must say that my interest level in this park has just risen a foot or two. I do believe that I will have to go and visit that park. I agree with the statements about the Harry Potter Novels being excellent reads. But I must be honest and say that I was somewhat dissappointed with the last in the series. The book lagged in a good ending in my opinion. And I do not really like the movies too well. They are nowhere nearly as good as the books. ( but then again, how many movies actually are ) I don't know, I think that they went too far with keeping it kid friendly. I know that this will probably never happen, but they should remake each film with new actors, a new director, and new special effects artists. And in this imaginary remake of mine, I would make the movies much more like the books, with Lord of the Rings like special effects. That, in my opinion would be something worth watching. The adult versions of Harry Potter.

I like to ride my favs over and over again. I don't think any new rides are coming in 2008, but 2009 will probably be a big year. I always like to make guesses based on what I would do if I were involved in the planning for the parks future and management. I think that I would allow the season to go with the reality of everyone understanding that the newest attraction for the park would be the new logos and names for the rides. Throughout the year, people would get used to this, and maybe they will catch our attention with some surprise concerts or events. Maybe some shows will be altered or maybe new shows will be introduced. This would be new attractions for the park. If they read through this website at all, and others they will recognize that the shows are an important factor for Kings Island. It has been said so over and over again on this website alone. They need to make new great shows. Maybe they are listening to that. They might also add a little umph to the 4th of July celebration. Who knows they might. On top of this, they might add more to the Halloween Haunt. Maybe some more shows during the Haunt could be beneficial. If they did all of this, 2008 could still be a very big year. And something tells me that this year will be similar to 1999. I have no proof of this. And I am not trying to start some stupid rumor. This point above all needs to be made clear. But if the rumors of a hypercoaster in 2009 are true. Wouldn't the park try to shadow the 2008 season with some kind of an official announcement that it was going to be coming in 2009. I think it would silent disapproving voices, and raise a few quiet ones. In much the same way that being able to watch the Son of Beast become raised did for fans of the park in 1999. Does anyone else remember walking back to Top Gun in "99" and staring at the intro to Son of Beast, and watching them build the 1st section of the track. I know I do, and I know that for me, it overshadowed the current year in full. Again, I am not speaking of actual occurances, and I am not speaking of heard rumors. This is just a spectacular way to explain in our fun world of K.I. fantasy, what I would do. This was from another forum......enough said

  24. Great points on everything up to this point. Cartoon Network very rarely ever shows any classic cartoons, at least whenever I turn it on...they're usually showing Dragonball Z, family guy, american dad, etc.....i just checked the listing for the next 48+ hours and counted FIVE episodes of older cartoons....a couple of Tom and Jerry and one Bugs Bunny....(I should also note that these are not Hannah Barbera characters) I unfortunately don't have "Boomerang"...Do they strictly show classic cartoons? "Boomerang" is awesome in my opinion. They show The Smurfs, Scooby Doo, Top Cat, The Jetsons, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Tom and Jerry, just to name a few. They also dig up one hit wonder cartoons. For example an old cartoon directed by ( in my opinion ) the Great Chuck Jones, which was called "The Bear Who Wasn't." I had never even heard of this cartoon before, but it sure was unique to watch. These old vault cartoons are ( again in my opinion ) the absolute best. And Boomerang is just full of them.
  25. I agree with this statement. But I think that the issue isn't even so much what kids like today. Because lets face it, if the park had the space and the money, they would constantly be expanding and keep as much up and running as possible to get people of all ages to come in, and have a little bit of something for everyone. But the reality is that Kings Island, regardless of owner is pretty much limited on funding and like it or not, space. It makes sense for a smaller park to be managed in a way that keeps it fresh and new to childrens eyes. Because that is what the local market really is. Parents wanting memories with and for their children. Parks like Disney are not as subject to this, and this is what makes them so unique. Their budgets and Massive space for expansion are certainly key factors, and no matter when you go to the park, you can see virtually any character from some point in Disney's History somewhere in one of the parks. This makes it timeless. But again, they have the space and the money to do this, where our seasonal local park does not. But even Disney cannot keep everything going on seemingly forever. The Swiss Family Robinson TreeHouse is an excellent example of this. In Magic Kingdom, in the very near future, the walkthrough treehouse is to be replaced with a walkthrough "Black Pearl" from Pirates of the Caribbean. But in the vast world of Disney, I think that this change, despite the loss is a very good decision. The "Black Pearl" would certainly bring in more guests to the park. And unlike the constant airing of Hanna Barbera cartoons on networks like Boomerang and Cartoon Network, where would anyone today see or have much interest in the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse?
