  1. I hope KI management reads this.

Tonight at 7pm my family tried to enter the park; all 4 passes scaned as

they normally do, photos came up with entry totals for each of us. The

girl looked at Peanuts and commented we could not enter due to a

scratch on Peanuts barcode; we were required to goto Pass processing

before we could enter. I guess I fail to understand why it had to be done

immediatly; even though it scanned fine. This delay caused us to miss a large portion

of a show we came to see.

Does anyone know if i have to enter new numbers on Park Perks?

  2. I renewed my Platinum Pass online this year and was not charged a fee. Why would I? I mean I didn't even have to print anything. I used the same pass from last year. Didn't even have to re take my picture.

That makes too much sense; I called and they only use the existing pass renewal up until 10-31; We can renew our existing passes, but are asked to show it when we go to pass processing next season, and still have to pay an E-download fee... a bogus way to get more money out of guest.

Wow... that doesn't make any sense. The technology's there to renew passes, why not use it all the time and not only in the fall? What happened to making things convenient and easier for the guest? When I was in Admissions in the Paramount era we were discussing automatic renewals way back then. Our main intent in pushing for it was to make things easier for the guests and reduce the time guests had to wait in line for processing. If the information you were given is correct, this is a step backwards and flies in the face of what we were striving for years ago.

EDIT: And it appears the information is correct. I went to the park's website, clicked as if I was buying a renewal gold pass, entered a name and clicked Continue, and at no point did it give me a place to put in a season pass number. Wow...

I'm old, Gator B) , but I try to give good info on here.

It's just a way to get that extra $5.00; they did have two other prices/options to get your passes for next season if you needed them sooner (but you would still have to get a picture on that new pass). But then it depends on who you talk to there at KI; last year the website said you also had to show your old pass like this year to get the new one when you renewed an existing pass, but they don't ask to see the old one when you process; we were also told last year we would be using/keeping the old pass when we renewed at pass processing (no new plastic) they gave us the new one.

Anyone else can call the park and ask about renewing their pass with your existing id number; I hope you get the same response I received.

As for the Eticket price; I find it hard to belive that KI is using new software for the Eticket delivery; it has been free for how many years to use when you purchase online?? I can't see them justifying a charge now for using a system they have most likely had in place and been usng all along; there is no human interaction after you hit the submit key; and the customer is using their own paper and ink to print them out.

  4. Has anyone else noticed that you have a $5.00 fee for Etickets, and two other fees for how you want your 2012 passes delivered to you? What happened to free Etickets when you purchased a season pass?

  5. Did anyone catch the photo on Kings Islands Facebook page dated Feb 14th, called "Planning"? you can see The Racer and a very large area being planned to the left. Other clues were turing back time! The dinosaur foot print. Dinosaur bones.

  6. These are cool, but I don't remember them. The one I remember was like the end of the first one, showing the guys walking the top. My youngest is doing her city projecton Kings Island and is doing a scale model of the tower. I thought the kids would find the construction interesting.

    thanks

Is this what you are looking for?

  7. There was a link someplace on KIC last year with a video, I thought it was on Youtube, showing the construction of the tower. Does anyone remember the link or what it might be under on Youtube?

    Thanks

Also, if you scroll to the two sections on The Beast, you can actually see the calculations that John Allen gave the park when they were planning The Beast.

    Very cool stuff indeed!

The Beast Articles were fascinating. I especially liked these quotes:

    • The velocity of the train was too great for this formula so they increased the bank angle to reduce the side forces. This was actually done early in the 1979 season, as an overnight project and was relatively easy to do - I'm guessing things are different today, I can't imagine doing something like this overnight
    • Some check brakes were also installed with buckets of lead ingots to check the trains of excess speed. These brakes were later removed as the banking angles were increased on some of the problem curves - And people say that trims have never been added/removed from The Beast :P
    • The first structural replacements on The Beast began in 2006, after Cedar Fair took over the park - This surprised me, but for those that complain that CF doesn't maintain theming like Paramount did - I'm glad they at least took care of the ride. And as a side note the Paramount teal and purple 20th anniversary logo looks hideous
