  1. you cannot see the north lot from the Soak City cam? can you? correct me if i'm wrong, but that camera is pointed at what i believe is kings mill way, and the traffic light at the Soak City exit... so those lights in the distance are pretty far off property. now if that camera were pointed to the right 90 degrees, we would have a pretty good view of a wide open... empty parking lot.

  2. maybe the "no camping" sign is just a nod to the fact the coaster (if it is one) will likely be occupying some of the area the old camp ground used to sit on? behind top gun and great wolf? just a thought.....

  3. So after a little exploration I discovered that at this time in 2008 Diamondback had just the footers for the station, storage station, and swan lake splashdown. Not very different from what we have right now. Especially since we will probably not be seeing another splashdown.

if memory serves me correctly... and it usually does, Diamondback footers were in place before opening weekend. specifically the one next to the old time photo booth. they were covered with flower pots i believe.

these photos are from this site on april 20th of 2008. looks like we had a lot more footers and such at that point.

  4. Those yellow and black stripes tell the story! What else could it mean?

A bumblebee. Flying around on an inverted B&M themed to a bee, named Stinger.

I think you cracked the case! We have a new Reds Griile, next year we have a new B&M invert named Stinger(the Blue Jackets mascot!). Being a die hard Jackets fan I cant wait for this ride to open. :P

actually there was a hockey team in town years ago named the cincinnati stingers.... i kind of like that idea for a theme to tell ya the truth. not really because of the hockey / local tie in reference, but just in general. i could see a great color scheme and mild amount of themeing to an oversized bumble bee or yellow jacket!

  5. so the release says the size of the water park will be doubled.... doesn't look to me that the new wave pool is the size of the entire complex that's already there? cause that's really the only "new" addition right? everything else is just slightly changing? unless they are counting the parking as water park now???

sorry to be a downer, but come on... adding one wave pool doesn't really "double" the size of the water park.... maybe capacity.... but not actual acreage!

  6. remember the "game on" game show that was in the festhaus? my dad got selected and ended up winning a 32" picture in pucture television.... haha doesnt seem like much now, but in 1997 (or whenever that game ran) it was a big deal!

on a side note, that was one of the best shows ever. lots of audience participation, and very entertaining. i wish they would bring it back!

  7. cant wait to ride.... only thing i'm even mildly disappointed about is the color scheme and possible lighting. star-flyers are absolutely stunning at night. the led lighting packages available on the tower and the "star" portion of the ride are nothing short of incredible. from the animation, all of the four rides will be painted the same (nothing unique, except for the k at knotts) and i fear the only lights we will see will be flood lights on the ground pointing up at the tower (like Drop Tower) which leaves a lot of potential on the table.

i hope i'm wrong and we see incredible lights on this new 300' tower!

  8. I bet we are getting that StarFlyer they where fighting over before. Since the StarFLyer can't work really well at CP why not just send it to KI instead and avoid all the legal troubles?

i was thinking the same thing.... especially with the sudden announcement, and the multiple parks rumored to receive such a ride.... its possible Cedar Fair was stuck with a few extra super tall swing rides and had to throw them in places. haha if we become the benefactor of this mistake, i for one will not complain.

still hoping for a sky swing though...

  9. well it sounds like a stratosoar.... especially since the announcement date is the same as CP, knotts, and carrowinds... but i tell you, i'd like to see an s&s swing over the midway... taller than skyhawk at CP and sending riders 230' in the air.... that would be fantastic. i know i'm draming, but i love skyhawk.

i think a great place for stratosoar would be the old flight commander area.... and i do remember them doing a bit of cleaning and such in that area. only two questions. one, is that area big enough, and two, would they build the same ride at ki and cp? wouldnt that kind of steal cp's thunder?

    this is so sudden!!!

  10. i went to sfkk annually from about 1997 to 2003 (whenever greased lightning came) at which point it just became a useless trip since the rides remained the same, and you were lucky to catch all of them operating.

i wish this park went back to the days before six flags. Mr. Hart added "Hellevator", "t2", "chang" and "twisted twins" in a four year period (95-98) which i believe is what originally made it so attractive for six flags to pursue. the park was thriving and clearly on the way up, then came SF. i cannot help but wonder what would have become of the park had it never been sold in the first place.

so sad to see it go. Thunder Run was / is one of my favorite woodies. gonna miss that park. i'm all about bringing back the flying dutchman to KI! haha

  11. i voted yes for being a coaster enthusiast (73 and counting) but i would say its more of a hobby. i just enjoy going places i've never been before, and travel in general. i LOVE coasters, but i also love SPORTS. i try to go to a new stadium 2 or 3 times a year. i cant say the same about parks. if there is a coaster or park within driving distance of the place i'm heading, i'm bound to check it out... but i just enjoy following all the new development, coaster and industry news on a weekly basis. just a hobby for me.

  12. I could easily see something like that going in the paths between coney mall and rivertown, or even in Oktoberfest. I think it's a great idea. Starlite at CP was really neat. But then again, I'll never give any sort of credibility to Screamscape.

    why?

go back and take a look? though screamscape is known to post just about anything, when it comes to Kings Island they seem to always be dead on.

i remember them posting tomb raider about a year before it was announced. same with closing of king cobra, removal of tiques, ijst, and most recently DB!

all posted weeks or even months before the information was made public. i'll put faith in screamscape and defend lance and his sources forever! they have never let me down!

  13. 47,48, and 49 tonight.... thanks for a brief, but awesome trip those of you who were around!!!!!

i'll meet my goal of 50 for the season the next time i visit.... i know, not nearly as impressive as some, but for only 9 visits this season, i'll take it... one hell of a coaster!!!
