  1. Aerial of the layout of Adventure Express would be cool... I'd love to see an aerial of the current condition of LeSourdesville, if your flight plan allows...
  2. Wow this is really sad... My first and only encounter with Weird Al was with high school buddies back in 86 in the 3rd row at KI TimberWolf for the previously stated "Like a Virgin" Tour... or was that the "Thriller" tour - I can't recall... Grew up on Price's Mountain, but now I live in Euclid less than a football field away from the Polka Hall of Fame--this is the first I've heard of this tragedy... This will be serious around here - Our neighborhood church is filled with people with last names like Yankovic, and This-ovic and That-ovic --- we still have the Polka Mass under the outdoor tent every summer.... I think some of the old guys in the choir were buddies with the old Yankovic band guys... They sure know how to Polka... Frankie Yankovic's autographed band pictures are in every bakery and barber shop from E. 55th to E. 350th Street... Sad......
  3. That was eerie walking around the park with all the major attractions down. Felt like Jurassic Park, after the power was shut down... We had just gotten off FOF when it occurred... perhaps it was too much weight on the end of the train caused to LIM's to overheat...
  4. Wouldn't a B&M Invert, strategically located just to the right of and behind Eiffel Tower, work really well out over LaRosa's Lake... And especially if it were Retro Themed to The Bat... sigh... It's been a while since they sold another Batman: TR... bet the price is coming wayyy down...
  5. Beastie has flanged wheels, heres a pic off a website Beaste Flanged wheels That is something I did not know...
  6. The Kurve is indeed the name KI used for the ride... Germantown/Oktoberfest was the home of some cool little rides at one point.. Rotor; Der Spinning Kegels; Bavarian Beetle... And my first (of way too many) experiences with Sauerkraut and Bratwurst occurred at the restaurant in the current shadow of the Viking Fury... But this brings up a very controversial point... Bayern Kurve... -a-Runs on rails, and -b-in part, is powered by gravity... Therefore, it is a coaster... Adjust your credits accordingly.
  7. For brief but real off-ride footage of the Screamin' Dem-n, get this video: Vincent Price - America Screams (VHS)[/url] This 1987 video also contains extensive discussions with Arrow employees other than Ron Toomer, and footage of working prototypes of a new type of coaster (suspended) that soon may be built...
  8. Since there's alot of people with picture memorabilia following this thread, I'll ask the question that most burns me up: Does anyone anywhere have on or off ride video of The Bat in operation...? I've got Screamin' Demon footage from the old Vincent Price Roller Coaster video, but I have never found a Bat video...
  9. Ok... here's the trivia answers for the differences between Sea Dragon and Beastie if anyone cares... -Sea Dragon has flanged wheels - the wheels fit "around" a metal rail, eliminating the need for internal side wheels... -Sea Dragon still uses manual braking -Sea Dragon loads on the curve instead of the straightaway The flanged wheels provide one of the smoothest coaster rides around... We got to Wyandot for the first time on our way back north from PKI last year and really enjoyed the Dragon...
  10. Forgot about the tunnel... Momma - Do you absoutely have to make everyone so emotional all the time... Don't you wish that Action Zone would have been built back where FoF was built, and that the Wild Animal Safari area still around... Remember the pathway from Germantown into Wild Animal Safari... There were several bridges in the area, all with rope and net sides adding to the Jungle theme... When Screamin Demon was built, it was almost non-invasive to the theme - it kind of "lurked" back there because of the way it only made noise at the launches... Was it me or did you have to go under something to get all the way back to the entry to the Monorail... ahhhh the air conditioned monorail... miss that too.. And how about that constant wild bongo "music" that never stopped back there...
  11. Who knows the main difference between the Scooby Doo /Beastie and the Sea Dragon at Wyandot Lake? Actually I can think of three worth discussing...
  12. Anyone know what the relationship between Gov. Taft and Taft Broadcasting is/was... I know during his most recent campaign, he was asked what his favorite coaster was - he answered The Racer... E. Beast
  13. I'd have to nominate the old Ivy Tunnel for the "Best Transition Between Two Themed Areas" All-Time award.... I've been out of the area from 1988 to 2003, but I have very vivid memories of the Ivy Tunnel from pre-88. From the moment you enter the archway of the tunnel, the noisy insanity of the HB land would slowly ease away, and the cool shade inside was like a cave, protecting patrons from more sunburn... By the time you would exit on the other side, you were in an entirely different mind set and an entirely different world. The perfectly placed Wheel of Fortune was spinning and turning off to the right... logs splashing down in the chute of the Kings Mill... And, hey, when did they remove the spectacular Rib Pit that sat right in the middle of that whole area... Mouth watering ... the smoke was everywhere... a blazing fire cooking up hundreds of barbequed ribs and chickens... yum... But without the Tunnel, and with HB Land invading over the line, Rivertown isn't quite the same as it once was... E. Beast
  14. Here's one of my favorite memories from the mid-eighties -- It was a blazing hot summer day and the family took an unexpected trip to the park--At that time, there was this very cool Reds gift shop located directly across from Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal... This particular afternoon the Reds had a pitcher on the mound by the name of Mario Soto, a hard throwing right handed pitcher who was brilliant on a series of sub-par Reds teams... For years, the Reds had languished in last place as a series of mistakes had been made, starting with the loss of Pete, and continuing with the dismantling of the rest of the Big Red Machine... (Can you say "Dick Wagner"?)... Anyway, on this day, the park was busy and there was a pretty good sized crowd hanging around the Reds souvenier shop... As we approached, you could hear a radio broadcast from the store - and the very tense voice of Marty Brenneman as he was finishing out the inning -- Reds were winning, but the opponent (who escapes me) had No runs and No hits exiting the 7th inning... Holy smoke... Mario Soto, long suffering Reds pitcher, was on the verge of history... The crowd was intense as more and more people gathered into an around the shop - Cheers were louder with each strike - And at the end of eight innings, he was still pitching a no hitter... Of course if you are a Reds fan, you'll remember that Soto gave up a homer in the ninth and never did get the elusive no hitter that he deserved; but to this day, he'll never know how he was cheered on in a little corner in Rivertown, Kings Island, USA..
  15. Reaching wayyy back into the memory bank... who else remembers a lonely little ride, way back in the Coney Mall called the Halley's Comet... which combined with its neighbor, the Shake Rattle and Roll provided some of my favorite flat rides of kidhood....
