  1. Aw man, you just burst my bubble. One of the things I was looking forward to enjoying at CP this year was a Pink's hot dog when test driving the new platinum pass. I will probably still give it a shot but will be braced for the disappointment of it not holding a candle to those delicious LA dogs.
  2. I never understood why people complain about hearing rides at nearby amusement parks. Generally the theme park was there first (because they usually build in rural areas that later become developed.) So why would people buy a home near a theme park and get mad when you can hear it? I would understand if you lived there before it was built, but hardly that is the case. The same reason you can find instances of the residents of new subdivisions in at least 2 places in Indiana banding together and bringing forth lawsuits attempting to close race tracks that have been in operation for 50+ years. We now live in a world where people make uninformed choices and then expect everyone else to change, move or accommodate so that their ideal can be maintained, regardless of the cost (financial or otherwise) to everyone else. Just my cynical 2 cents!
  3. Based on the seemingly rapid onset of symptoms based on the timeline presented in the article I am going to put my paramedic hat on for a second and say it was probably an allergic reaction. Rapid onset, no one else got sick, quickly fatal. Has all of the hallmarks of anaphylaxis. Could happen to anyone trying a new foodstuff for the first times. Sounds like one of those freak coincidences that it was bugs or worms that he reacted to. Same thing happens to some people the first time they eat shrimp, we just never hear about those cases on the news.
  4. I wish my wife and I could have met up with everyone. We were running a bit behind schedule and didn't get there until right at 6. By the time we got to the gate everyone must have been inside. Couldn't have missed the group by more than 5 minutes. I have to say though, despite not getting to meet any of you it was a memorable night. Rode The Beast at around 11:30 or so, freezing cold, pouring rain, front seat. I've ridden my motorcycle in rain and hail on 45 degree days in the middle of a 1,000 mile trip and wasn't that cold and didn't get pelted in the face that hard. My wife and I were sore, cold, numb and miserable when we got off but it was a BLAST. We will both look back on that ride as long as our minds hold out and smile, I assure you. Our dear Sam gave me the best scare of the night as well. Just my wife and I going through the house around 12:00 or a bit after, head into Sam's room and much to my disappointment he "wasn't there". He was hiding back behind an oven (I think) right before you leave his room and he popped out right beside me with a bang of the door and a yell. (Guy in a black Harley hoodie and a mustache, girl in a black leather coat, shoulder length brown hair and glasses. Just the two of us walking through. Doubt you remember us, but if so, well, that was us.) It takes a lot to startle me, but that did. Well played, sir. Well played. In addition to my little moment with Sam one of the actors approached my wife and I with a green glow stick in hand and asks us if we want to know why it is green. He proceeds to thread it though his nasal septum piercing and proclaim "BOOGERS!". Yet another moment that will stick with me. Between that Beast ride, Sam, Mr. Boogers (for lack of any other name), and some good old fashioned borderline inappropriate banter with a couple actors on a two person trip through Club Blood (will spare the details, family friendly site after all ) it was a night to remember. It's going to take a lot to top that for our anniversary weekend trip at the end of the month, but I have faith my haunt experiences will just keep getting better this year!
  5. No offense, but how does experience building a monorail allow you to predict that the demolition will take until November or December? Why would you install footings for a ride you're demolishing? With Wolf Pack in the queue building of SoB and the last operating day of Halloween Haunt being October 28 I think it is a safe assumption that demolition will last until at least November, regardless of any expertise in monorail construction and insights it may provide. Three days to clear out the remaining structure, even if the station were to be left intact, seems a bit ambitious.
  6. It was chicken tenders last year.
  7. While I do not recall if it was still using the name "Backyard BBQ" during haunt last year I know the same offer was presented each night. It was the meal add on which was offered as a ticket upgrade for daily tickets or as an add on daily purchase for pass holders. My memory can be a bit poor at times but I seem to recall it was a bit later in the evening to accommodate for the children's Halloween activities in the picnic area (The only time we partook last year was on a Saturday. Not sure if it is at the same time or even done at all on Friday) and only lasted for an hour or hour and a half.
  8. But that is what the internet in general and forums in particular are for, isn't it? Trust me it's not just here. You want to see *****ing? I can provide you with the links to a couple of racing forums that make KIC look like a showplace for manners and civility.
  9. Greetings all, long time lurker, first time poster. This thread finally made me decide to come out of the shadows a bit. I am going to have to go with option "C" and say why not both? I love to go to KI whenever the job and my racing allow me to, but I dearly miss the "theming" aspect from the days of old (pre-Paramount). Even if it was just different music and employee costuming from area to area it helped, even at my young age at the time, to make the park a more immersive experience. Over the past few years that I have been fortunate enough to be able to return to my beloved park I find that while I enjoy the rides, my overall park experience has diminished. Where there used to be a continuously changing sensory experience throughout the park in terms of the food available, the sights, the sounds (music) and even the smells it made it easier to "loose" yourself in the full park experience. It seems now that with an upcharge or basketball game around every other corner, the same music blaring throughout the park and, in my opinion very lackluster food choices (compared to when Festhaus and International Street were truly worthy of the names, although KI is still the only place I will eat LaRosa's) all I focus on is getting through the crowd to the next ride, never slowing down or stopping to take in the overall experience, because it is simply no longer there. This is why my wife and I prefer to visit during Halloween Haunt (not to mention it is our annyal anniversary trip as we were married on Halloween), the overall experience is much enhanced by the addition of theme.
