Agreed, I've seen quite a bit of action going on in the Blackout building. However, they could have repurposed the building for something else, but I'm hopeful for some new mazes this year!

Hope we get Dark Ride like Knott’s had! CW has a version of it this year as well

It’s odd I’ve been looking at all cedar properties that have haunt and I don’t see any shows listed for any of the events.

Thankfully, we do have NyteWalkers confirmed (the ramps have been repainted & the sign is above the stage). As far as the bandstand & Festhaus, idk.

Dollywoods Luminights are packed.  It seems like the better route for the future.

Kings Islands Haunt crowd is questionable enough that they don’t allow re entry.    If Haunt is attracting the sane unsupervised crowd as last spring, that’s a consideration.

The scare mazes and dark foggy pathways are a liability.    They have cut down on the fog recently.

Ultimately they will chose the demographic that spends the most at the park.

On a side note I would let be one bit sad if those hideous metal side Haunt buildings disappeared from the parks.

Dollywood & SDC are more family/kid centered parks. KI & other Cedar Fair parks are a mixed demographic with more thrills than kid friendly attractions. So it would make sense for Dollywood and it’s sister parks to do an event like that compared to Cedar Fair and have both a daytime and nighttime event

I do like the idea of the expanded Tricks and Treats event California’s Great America and Valleyfair are hosting. It seems like a Winterfest-type Halloween event. At least Halloween Haunt is getting replaced by something decent looking. It would be nice if Kings Island could host the expanded Tricks and Treats event and Halloween Haunt, but I think The park will instead host Halloween Haunt and the toned down version of Tricks and Treats.

It’s almost like they could make Rivertown & Planet Snoopy the treats side for kids, then Action Zone & Coney Mall/Area 72 the tricks side with a more Haunt approach. International Street & the walkway between Coney & Rivertown could serve as transition points with a middle ground feel (the Pumpkin Eater vibe minus scareactors)

  5. Many of the Cedar Fair parks have announced today (February 25th)  that they are getting rid of Haunt & expanding Tricks and Treats to an all day event. Will this trend come to KI & was 2021 the last year of Haunt?!

IF Haunt is no more, does this mean that KI will remove the maze buildings for future attraction use?!

What color did they paint it over with? If they coated it with primer, then they could be just redoing the facade. If they chose another solid color, they may just be trying to make it look nicer while it is not in use. Kings Island repainted KillMart, but the Halloween Haunt Maze is still there. I hope that all of the mazes in plain sight eventually get a facelift or get torn down honestly. I am all for these mazes, but for buildings that are only used for a couple months each year, they really shouldn’t take away from the beauty of the park.

They painted it solid black. I honestly think it has ran it’s course at Haunt. Remember, they keep Wolf Pack & Slaughterhouse’s ID signs up year-round too.

  7. I was at the park yesterday & it looks like Blackout isn’t returning (the facade was painted over). What could be replacing it?! I would love to see a new pirate maze be placed there to tie in with the SZ.

Also, do you think they will be retiring Urgent Scare after the events of last year (and the fact it’s been there the longest)?

It would be nice to see some more elaborate tents in future Haunts, if they can do so without clogging up the pathways.  at HHN at Uni, some of the marquee haunts (Stranger Things) are actually in a large tent (with pumped in HVAC).  It would save on the expense of constructing a prefab building used only for several weekends a year.

HHN's headliners are always in soundstages. Usually the originals/small IPs are in sprung tents. The quality in them aren't always the best (especially early in the night when there is still light).

That's really interesting... I wonder if the park just planned on using the small annex of the old campground that wasn't removed for Great Wolf Lodge (center of this photo), or if there were plans to clear some of the old safari land and build a new campground out there. I've always thought the demand for a campground was there, and it seems like that land would be ideal to build one on.

There’s already a campground in the works behind McDonalds & Wendy’s, so it would be pointless for KI to invest in. Making one as well

I thought of a great idea for Haunt in light of COVID-19 and social distancing. Instead of the regular amount of mazes, they could have 1 big outdoor maze alongside a few of the more popular indoor mazes (like Slaughterhouse, Killmart and Chaos). The big outdoor maze could be in the woods, possibly be an upcharge and combine features of mazes that didn't make it into the 2020 lineup as well as showcase features of past mazes (as 2020 is Haunt/Fearfest's 20 anniversary, after all).

Even if Haunt goes as planned, I wonder if there will be something done for the 20th anniversary?

I doubt they would acknowledge Haunt's anniversary (sadly)

    • Phantom Theater would make a great maze! Maybe they could have that replace Urgent Scare?!
    • I don't see Blackout being open this year
    • Cavern of Terror could be leaving as well as the Rivertown Reaping sz & be replaced by a pirate themed maze & sz
    • CHAOS could move towards a theme more centered around Orion & Flight of Fear
    • Wolf Pack could be replaced with a pirate themed maze to flow in with the sz
    • Dance of the Macabre could replace the Shipwrecked sz in Action Zone/KI Theater area
    • The shows will remain the same with
    • A Mardi Gras or Dia De Los Muertos sz could be on International Street to accompany Drums of the Dead & could use Grand Carnivale floats & decor
