Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees

My son Eli is 23 months old and is baaaarely less an inch away from 36 in which he can graduate to the next level of rides other than Train Junction and moon buggies. But hey, he still gets in for free and who's complaining. Right? It's funny other parents ask if he's 3. Haha. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk My son was ALMOST 40" before 3 and he would have absolutely loved Woodstock Express, but alas he's a half-inch short. We did take advantage of the free "under 3" admission with him being over 36". One of the best visits to the park in recent memory, seeing it all new through his eyes. Initial response to Mystic Timbers: First off, the ride itself looks great. Whenever I would look at that area of the park, I always felt like a good modern woodie or a blitz coaster would work great there so I'm very happy they're using that space for this purpose. The ride looks fun, fast and hopefully smooth with a nice mystery at the end. Going off what I know and have ridden, I love The Raven and if you told me they could put The Raven in Rivertown next to The Beast I would have been ecstatic. I feel like they will come close with Mystic Timbers. Even though it's only 100' tall, I think it has potential to be a top 5 or higher coaster at the park. I do like the theming and I love the "old truck" trains. It kind of reminds me of the Dharma Initiative (Lost) with the old VW vans in the unknown jungle. It's a fun theme that I think will work well. What's in the shed? I have no idea. If it's something mechanical, I'd lean toward a drop track with some effects. I'm hoping for a barrel roll with effects. GCI has stated that they can do inversions. That would be a cool addition to the ride. I'm really hoping it's not some cheesy AE-style animatronic climax and you roll gently into the station. They've failed if that's what it is. Now to some negatives...I like the theme but I hate the name. That word "Mystic" just isn't sitting well with me, it doesn't even fully fit the theme. Mystic to me speaks "magical", but this is some killer plant in the "natural" woods. I think they could have come up with a better name that would have better described the overall experience, theme and ride. Also the tree in the logo is kind of dumb. It looks like an angry cross between Treebeard and Gandalf. Lastly, I was hoping for a 42" rider height to promote more kid/family riders. I think this is a top ride in the park and it's cool to think it could be my son's first "big" coaster...but he has to wait until he's 48" when he can ride a majority of coasters in the park (including The Beast). Overall I'm happy. My gripes are minor and I can't wait to ride and find out what's in that shed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

With the announcement coming this week, I'm officially bowing out of this thread. It's not worth it to me for the news to be spoiled this close to finding out officially. I'm sure I'll see you all in the "New ????? For 2017" thread that gets created after the announcement. Peace out sucka's. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Since everyone is talking about the train spielers, my personal feeling is that I could do without them altogether. I've only ridden the train twice this year but both times it was excruciating to listen to them, just terrible. Cheesy, bad jokes, uninteresting (and misleading) statements. I got the feeling that the other park guests felt the same way. It really took away from the ride experience. Just play the music and blow the whistle every now and then. If you need to tell a story, play a recording. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It held the title of Beastie the longest and was my first coaster so Scooby Doo doesn't exist to me. Also, I referred to Paramount bc they were the ones that ruined it first with The Fairly Odd Coaster. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

^was at the park with my son (3 yrs) a couple weeks ago so we were hanging in Planet Snoopy. I overheard this 12-13 yr old girl ask a middle-aged man where The Beast was and he replied "which one, the big one or the little one?" She looked at him like he was from Jupiter. After she left I told him we are in an old generation..."the little one" doesn't exist anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

^Be nice to bring The Beastie name back "to its rightful place" by renaming Woodstock Express. Why they ever decided to theme the greatest kids coaster ever (with a terrible paint scheme) is beyond me...curse you Paramount! Old man rant over. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Thinking of getting a Platinum Pass for next season. They are $208 online for this season but I know there are big discounts for purchasing early, in the fall. Historically, what has that discount been? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah some of this arguing goes beyond a friendly debate. I don't know about you but this is a fun distraction for me. I work way too hard at my job and in life generally to get all worked up about whatever fun new attraction is on its way to my favorite park next year. I like the friendly debate during this decoding process but not the petty insults and general whining. My advice would be, if you're not having fun anymore, maybe it's time to take a break from decoding and go ride the carousel or something (her back to the basics). Chill...it's supposed to be fun. Who's to say rocky Mountain declined to change some boards on that ghoster coaster @ knotts berry farm. I think more money would be in projects where you completely renovate a ride or build one from scratch?lol! Ghoster Coaster...love the reference!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

^^^but if (big if) the Mean Streak rumor is true, wouldn't that make the odds of a RMC at KI "more" likely since it would mean CF is now working with RMC? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Coming in the spring of 2017: Grandson Of The Beast! The tallest, fastest, longest wooden roller coaster in the world! The world's first collaboration from GCI and RMC!Don't forget Intamin, who (in an ironic twist) is brought on board for quality control of the other two designers and to identify potential safety and maintenance concerns.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

If this is true and we are looking at a smallish GCI, I still think it will be an anchor ride to an expanded Rivertown. I think the new (and good looking) WWC queue will partially be a new midway path with this coaster. TR:TR and the Planet Snoopy (Nickelodeon back then) expansion really stripped Rivertown down to basically The Beast. I, for one, would love to see Rivertown return (maybe even reincorporate/re-theme RFYLCB), and if this new coaster is anything like Prowler or Renegade, it looks like a great addition to a "new Rivertown". #BringBackRivertown Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
