Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
PiperArcher replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
Even though we're all so sure on this being a woodie/RMC, has anyone gone by Clermont Steel lately? Any more green track? -
Random question. Will last years souvenir cup work this year for refills? Thanks!

Here's a thought, if you can hum part of it, download an app that hears and displays the pitch you are humming at, then write down and post the notes in order. The one I have on my phone is PanoTuner. Should be free. Maybe we can find it that way...
-
I wonder if the Shazam app would be able to pick it up if you sang/hummed what you know to it.

"Running Out" by Matoma?
-
Jdawg, have you looked through all the songs in the Music at Kings Island thread here? Maybe it's in there somewhere. Once I finally finish my classes and get to Kings Island, I will be listening...unless you find it by then.
-
Yea I was about to suggest "Sigala: Easy Love" as well. Good song, but probably not it. I haven't found anything in my searches yet. Now it's bugging me too. lol Oh how I wish KI had songs synced with the coasters. I remember the days of riding Bizarro at SF New England a few years ago when it played classic rock synced to each hill. Rock'n Roller Coaster as well...

So no drop but electronic(ish)? hmm.... *Opens Spotify....*

@jdawg Something by Zedd perhaps? I think I know exactly what you are thinking of, but I, like you, can't remember which blasted song it's on.... EDIT: Heroes by Alesso maybe?

Decoding Episode II: Rivertown 2017 and the Falling Trees
PiperArcher replied to jcgoble3's topic in Kings Island
I don't know if it's just me, but while watching the Diamondback camera, I noticed that there is a larger clearing of trees than what used to be by the train shed and WWC station. I haven't been to the park yet this year (stuck at college doing 5 week summer classes), but it definitely looks different than it did when I watched the cameras a few weeks ago. Do they really need to clear a ton of trees everywhere for a coaster? If I had to guess, I'd say that if it is a coaster, we will start to see footers poured before the end of June at the latest. Currently jumping on the giga bandwagon because I think a woodie would require more clearing than there has been. Whatever it is I am already excited for it! Time will tell... -
Neat pictures to actually see for the first time. FoF is my favorite ride at KI. Coming from a lurker, this is an interesting bump... #SaveKIFlightofFear

I personally have no interest in the waterpark...but hey, at least they aren't removing The Racer. *insert sigh of relief here* Here's hoping the new slides attract people to the waterpark and away from our beloved coasters.

I may have gone to Kings Island only a couple of times this year, but here are some tips that have heightened my experience at Kings Island. If you plan to arrive at the park right when it opens, head directly to Flight of Fear and Firehawk (behind Racer). Those coasters get long lines quickly, so it's best to ride them first. Try to get front row on Flight of Fear. It is also worth a re-ride if possible IMHO. Invertigo and Backlot Stunt Coaster seem to get long lines quickly as well. Riding Beast during the day as well as at night in the front row is a must!!! It's not a day at Kings Island without riding the longest wooden coaster in the world! Vortex is fun but rough. Smoothest seats on Vortex are 5-1 and 7-1 (fifth and seventh cars front left seat). Banshee front row is fun, but the back row is the most intense ride in the park IMHO. Diamondback in the back is great! Lots of ejector air. Try to ride Racer at least once. It's a timeless classic and pretty fun. The Bat is a fun hidden gem across the way from Banshee. Be sure to go up the Eiffel Tower as well. It has amazing views of the entire park and the surrounding area! I hope crowds are really light for you and you have a #KIBestDay!!

Update: rode racer with my sister. She liked it but she's going to wait a bit for Bat. In line for beast myself. 15min wait.
-
Thank you all for the answers! I showed her POVs of Bat and BLSC and she seemed to like Bats short ride and how it is kind of like flying through a forest. I might be able to get her on that. She was not too keen on the launch of BLSC, but we will see what happens. We're going to the park on Thursday after 4PM. It should be fun! As far as Vortex is concerned, I haven't ever had a really bad ride on it in any seat. As long as you brace yourself accordingly, it is always a fun ride! It always reminds me of my rides on the Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens.

Hey Y'all! I've finally convinced my little sister to go with me to Kings Island and ride a roller coaster with me. She rode Big Thunder Mountain at Disney World 5 years ago and has been scared to go on any roller coaster since. She finally promised me that she would try a coaster at Kings Island. I have a good feeling that she'll start to love them as she has gone ziplining and done many other intense and fast things since her ride on Thunder Mountain in 2010. My predicament is that the coaster she promised to ride with me first is Racer. I feel that the ride may be too rough and scare her away from more coasters, even though it is not an intense coaster compaired to others at KI. I've been on every coaster at KI except the Woodstock coaster, and I've been brainstorming as to what other coaster to try and get her on if she likes Racer. She's tall enough to ride everything. I was thinking BLSC or Bat. I'd prefer to not go on Adventure Express right away because it's too similar to Thunder Mountain and, again, scare her away. I'm assuming that she will refuse to ride anything with an inversion as well as Beast and Diamondback, so I am not even considering those, and I personally won't let her on Firehawk. Even I hate that ride... Any suggestions as to the best way to handle the coasters with her? Worse comes to worse, she'll have ridden racer and that will be it as far as coasters go. I won't force her to do anything she doesn't want to do, but it would be awesome to ride the coasters with her! What experiences have you guys had with scared family members on coasters?

My cousins travelled from Pennsylvania to visit our family over this past long weekend, so four of us decided to go to Kings Island for the day. The weather wasn’t looking good for both Monday and Tuesday, but we decided to go on Monday. We arrived at the park at 9AM and I got them the Gold Pass BOF tickets. We were within the first 20 people through the gates and I guided them to Diamondback for some ERT, which the $40 BOF tickets get as well. We rode Diamondback on the second train out of the day in the back two rows, and then after that, we went right back on in the second car. Two great rides. After our two circuits on Diamondback, we decided we had time for a ride on Banshee before the entire park opened at 10, so I guided them over to Banshee and literally walked right on to the back row. I have never had a more intense ride than the back row on Banshee, so I wanted my cousins to experience that. Great ride and funny ride ops that morning. It was a good experience, and I hit my 200th inversion which was the last loop before the barrel role. (Yes I keep track of my inversion count as well as my ride count) As we exited Banshee, we saw a literal horde of people coming to the ride. Perfect timing for us. Come to find out, the park forgot to open the path leading to Coney Island, so almost everyone was funneled into Action Zone. They took the rope down as soon as we were walking towards it. We then started toward X-Base for the standard no line rides on FoF and Firehawk. We rode FoF front car first. Instead of taunting riders before launch, the ride op at the time just said facts about space. Cool, but not as fun as some of the stuff I have heard before launches. After FoF we went to Firehawk. This was all of our first time on a flying coaster. I had yet to ride Firehawk even though I’ve been to the park quite a few times. We walked right on to it and had no wait. I had no idea what was going on during that ride. It was mental and gave me a headache. Two of us took a break while the other two rode it again. It was a fun ride, but I think I may just leave it as one of those “I’ve got the credit for it, so I’m done” kind of rides. We all were hurting after Firehawk, so we went to Backlot Stunt Coaster for a slower smaller ride before hitting up Beast. Backlot was pretty good, but still a waste of space IMHO. God forbid if the park ever ends up taking out Vortex, they should take Backlot out with it and build a mega coaster there. Anyways, our next coaster was Beast. We had no line again and rode in the last row of the second car and first row of the third. Good ride as usual. I love the first tunnel turn after the second lift hill. Glorious… We decided to get a drink and rest for a while because one of my cousins was feeling a bit sick, and we didn’t want him to throw up. We walked to the tables over by Adventure Express and Racer. After about 20 minutes, we all felt better. It was only 11AM, so we did a marathon of 6 different coasters in that time. No wonder one of us felt a bit ill. We got in the nonexistent line for a ride on Adventure Express after our break. Fun ride, but the last hill is anticlimactic to say the least. For those who read the Ride Op thread in the forums, no invisible cat was spotted in the station that morning. After Adventure Express, we rode Red Racer. Only one side was running, and only one train was being used because someone threw up in the other. This was our longest wait; a grueling 8 minutes. Good ride, but bumpier than usual. Beast was also running bumpier than normal. Probably had something to do with the imminent rainstorm and the wood. I don’t know… After racer, we hit up the Dodgems and had the ride to ourselves. The four of us had a blast, but as usual, it was cut short as all bumper car rides are. We then decided we felt good enough for the rough loveable Vortex which was the final big coaster they had not ridden yet. Rode in the third car which was not ideal, but still a good rough ride. My cousins kept laughing because I kept making comments about all of us needing neck braces after the ride. Again, two of us got off the ride, and the other two asked if they could stay on the ride and go again since there was no line and half empty trains going out. They were able to and rode it a second time. After Vortex, the rain was about 15 minutes out, and we wanted to go up the top of Eiffel Tower before the rain came. We went to the top and saw the views. Once we got down, we rushed for Diamondback and tried to get one last ride in before the rain, but unfortunately, the rides closed even before the rain, so we called it a day. The rain hit just as we pulled out of the parking lot. Stopped at the Wendy’s one exit south of the park on I-71 for a bite to eat before we headed home and to wait the storm out as it had gotten really bad. Overall, it was a fantastic day at the park with absolutely no lines due to the heavy storms in the forecast keeping people away. Not to mention that it was a Monday. The park was literally dead. I would say it was a successful day of coaster riding. Looking forward to bringing my counsins back to Kings Island next year. They were amazed at how long the coasters were compared to those at their home park, Hersheypark. Well that is my trip report. I hope it wasn’t boring and y’all enjoyed reading it! Rainy Mondays at Kings Island are AWESOME! Rides: Diamondback (Back car walk on) Diamondback (Second car walk on) Banshee (Back row walk on) Flight of Fear (Front car walk on) Firehawk (Back row walk on) Backlot Stunt Coaster (Front car walk on) Beast (Second car one train wait) Adventure Express (Third car walk on) Racer (Back car 8 minute wait for cleanup) Dodgems (Empty walk on) Vortex (Third car walk on) Eiffel Tower (Walk on…)

Quiet day at the park this morning. Got lots of rides in with no wait. Will post a trip report soon. Rain shut everything down around 1:30

To answer my own question: I emailed Kings Island asking if the $40 bring a friend tickets get ERT like gold passes and I was told twice that they DO get ERT. In case I get any stick from staff at the gold pass entrances, I am saving the email to prove it. I am looking forward to a rained out hopefully quiet park tomorrow!
-
Question: Can people with tickets purchased by a Gold Pass holder get into the park for ERT just like the Gold Pass or can only the Gold Pass holder get in early? I'd like for me and my friends to get to the park early enough to hopefully beat the rain tomorrow and ride things early. Thanks!

^Sounds like a great day! Still haven't tried Drop Tower... Thanks everyone for the answers about rides running in the rain! I'm looking forward to a fun day with my cousins next week. Here's hoping that the all star game and Nascar race don't bring many people to Kings Island on Monday!
-
Yea..Beast for sure. Racer is pretty much the same day or night. Haven't tried Diamondback at night, but I am sure it is amazing Terp, funny you should say, last time I stayed till closing, I rode FoF about 4 times in a row within the last 10mins of park operating time. Maybe I just got lucky, but it seems most people do not like to ride FoF near closing for obvious night time reasons.

I enjoy watching the webcams, and I've noticed by watching the streams that the coasters run in the rain a lot. Do they normally run in the rain if there is not lightning around? My cousins from PA are coming to visit next week and we are planning on going to KI either Monday or Tuesday, but the forcast is rain for both. I'm hoping things will keep on a runnin' so we can have a good (and most likely damp) day.

Shout out to all of the ride ops at Kings Island. All the workers I have seen at my few times at the park looked happy and motivated. Special shout out to Flight of Fear ride ops. Never have I seen so much enthusiasm in a ride crew. I love the taunting of riders before the launch. I'll never forget the time they said "Falcon.....Punch!" Right at our launch.

Was not sure if I should post about my first experiences at Kings Island but why not! Went to Kings Island for the first time about a week ago and again two days ago. I am combining the two days because I really only did half of the park both days. First trip (June 3): Decided to follow the suggestions of everyone here on the forums and head right to Flight of Fear. I was the first rider and alone on the first train. I felt special and fell in love with FoF. I really do love that ride. Went right back in line again instead of going to Firehawkand got another walk on ride. I still haven't gone on Firehawk yet. It's the one coaster I am a little skeptical about. After FoF, I went to Vortex and rode on yet another almost empty train. There were people in the first car so I decided to ride what y'all on the forums say is the best ride (5-1). Even in that seat it was fun yet really rough. Haven't ridden it since. After that I went to The Beast. Tons of fun and really rough for a woody, but not as bad since there are no OTS like Vortex. I'm hoping to ride it at night soon. After Beast, I went to Diamondback and rode that twice in about 10 minutes. Love it so much. After Diamondback, I decided to ride The Racer. They were running both sides so I rode on Red and lost... Figures. After that I had to call it a (half) day. Didn't have the time to ride Banshee that day. Second trip (June 12): I was not sure what to expect on a Friday. I again made a B-line right for FoF yet there was already a 15min wait. No problem. I had just entered the UFO in the queue and the ride was "experiencing a minor technical difficulty." My guess was that someone lost something in the spaghetti and they had to make sure it wasn't on the track. I could be wrong though. Since I had gotten through that much of the line I stuck it out and finally got to watch the entire corny queue movie they play on a loop. Kind of funny to watch. FoF was "fixed" after about 10 minutes. That day, they were assigning seats but I lucked out and got front row again. I've been on FoF three times and all in the front left seat. I really love that ride. After FoF I decided to go to Diamondback and it was a walk on for the front...ON A FRIDAY! I was shocked to say the least. I like the ride on Diamondback in the front more than the back because of the ejector air you feel on almost all of the hills. Though on the back, you get pulled down every hill. After Diamondback I headed to Beast for the traditional ride of the day. Unfortunately, I ended up in a wheel seat and had my legs bouncing sooooo much. It was hectic and fun. I love the final tunnel and turn. You really feel yourself being pushed into the seat. Love it! After Beast, I decided to finally ride Banshee. I again was shocked. There was literally NO line for Banshee on a Friday! It was mostly sunny for the first half of the day so the park seemed crowded. I really enjoyed Banshee. I feel like you lose so much blood in your head on that ride that the final barrel role is required to let gravity bring blood back into your head. I think I may have blacked out on the second loop. I really did love it. Since there was no line, and I had already payed for a locker, I figured I would go on Banshee again. Sat in the second row. Banshee is really nice! Poor guy on the other side of my row puked on the brake run. Thank goodness for the two seats between us. After Banshee, I decided to ride Racer on the blue side this time. Red got to the lift first and made it down the drop first, but when we hit the brakes, we were almost a train ahead. Does red have more trims or something? Maybe we just had a weight advantage or something then. Great fun to ride on a dueling coaster! After I rode racer, it started to downpour so I took the time to browse some of the shops on International Street and then leave. Great day with small crowds in the dry park for a Friday. I was pleasently surprised! Here is a mini list of what I still would like to do at Kings Island that I haven't yet: Ride all remaining coasters (Bat, Backlot, Firehawk, Woodstock, Aerial Chase, Invertigo ) Night rides on Beast, D-back, and Banshee. Lights on ride on FoF Eiffel Tower WindSeeker Soak City Marathon D-Back when there are almost no lines (Did this with Bizarro at SFNE. Got over 10 rides in on it within about 30 mins) Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Kings Island and I am hoping to go again next week if the predicted rain all week does not happen. Although maybe it would be good to go on a day of light rain. Crowds may be light then. Well thank you for reading!! Sorry I don't have pics. They are all on my phone still, and there wasn't much special to post. Hope I didn't bore anyone!
