MattyJames
Hello All, Newb here. My name is Matty and I hail from Akron. I came across this forum searching for info regarding KI as I have some concerns regarding my family trip there over the holiday. Last year, My wife and I took our then 4 year old son to KI for a wonderful 2 day retreat. We went on a thursday and could'nt have asked for a better time. The weather was perfect. The lines were short and it was just an all-around great experience. Because of this, We decided to come back and do it again this season. My son will be tall enough this year to ride a few attractions that he was'nt able to last season and he talks about this nonstop! However,I have a few minor concerns about this years trip. We are leaving tommorrow(The 4th) and plan on attending on 7/5. Our reservations are already booked for this day at the Hotel. Our animals are already booked to be boarded these days and our schedule prevents us from altering these plans. First, I have a question about this SpiritSong thing. How big of an ordeal is this? Will it be extremely over crowded on Thursday? My family and I are not religous people. Although we do not mind people openly celebrating their religous beliefs, I hope this isn't going to be something that overtakes the entire theme of the day. I would rather not be preached to on my holiday with my family. Secondly, According to the latest weather reports there is a 50/50 chance of light periodic rain this day. I have read the policies on rain but I'm not sure how much they follow the guidelines. Will they typically continue running the coasters and rides if it is raining? If it rains all day are we out of luck or will they compensate the attendee's somehow? Anything the regulars to KI here could tell me about what I could possibly expect on this day would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to scrap the whole trip and start over just to have it be a pleasant day yet at the same time, I would also hate to invest in this weekend just for it to be a bust. I know that it's just a chance i'm going to have to take but i would feel better knowing that I am well equipped with knowledge given to me from you intelligent posters. -Thank you in advance
Dalefan
Sprit Song is very packed when they have it. Its very big and to me its the biggest money maker for the park. All 3 days is packed but i think it goes by the groups that will be singing. Around 6 pm i think it is all one ones going to the Sprit Song event will be heading to it and the park mostly is dead. The area around Action Zone who has the concert place will be most busy but the rest of the park should be less busy. Rain, it depends on how heavy it is and if lighting shows up. Light rain is iffy if they shut down the rides but the heavyer it gets the more of a chance they shut down things. Have a safe trip and hope it goes well for you. Colonel_SoB_fan
All spirit song is a christian music festival. So if your walking around the park most likely you wont be preached to. Second I was there on Memorial Day and it started to rain and yes all coasters shut down excluding Flight of Fear I'm sure as do most of the other rides. CoastersRZ
Crowds will likely be on the large side, especially later in the evening. The Action Zone will likely be crowded as the various groups that perform will be doing so at TimberWolf. I`m not sure on the exact state of the rain policy. I know for a while after the Magnum accident they would shut down all coasters at the first drop of rain. I`ve heard (unconfirmed) that they`ve relaxed this rule a little bit since then. Lin
Spirit Song is simply a Christian concert. You're not going to be preached to and most of the commotion will be in that area of the park, The Action Zone which you may remember contains the attractions: Drop Zone and Son of Beast (both of which are currently closed) Face/Off, Delirium, Top Gun, Xtreme Skyfler, and the Nascar mini track. The rest of the park is mildly more busy than usual on weekdays. As for coasters in rain, after an incident on Magnum at Cedar Point, it's now policy to stop the coasters in the rain. Indoor rides may be shut down due to fire hazard if too many people flock to them. And no, you will not be compensated I'm afraid to say. However, weather in this part of Ohio is very hit and miss. It rarely rains for an extended period of time.
MattyJames
Thank you all for the insight! It has been very helpful. I'm not too terribly concerned about the rain. I was more concerned about the crowds but it seems that it should be alright considering I will be spending most of my time at Nick Universe because of my young one. -Now for this Christian concert.... I like some Christian bands. MxPx,NormaJean,UnderOath,BlindSide,Zao,Haste The Day and The Chariot come to mind right off the top of my head. Any of these bands playing? KI's website might have a listing of the bands, if not then spirit song itself should have a website. KI would have ticket information and such if you decide to attend the concert

MattyJames
Thanks guys. I got the info off of the Spirit song festival site. If I lived closer to Cincy I would totally spend more time at KI. It's a blast.
KIfan73
I went to KI last year (unknowingly) during Spirit Song. By noon-1pm, the park became extremely packed.
