The Interpreter
Several friends have sent me this, which I find clever enough to repeat here (with thanks to Mike Gallagher): 'TWAS THE SEASON FOR COASTERS OR A VISIT TO SFGAd' Twas the season for coasters And all through the park, Many patrons were walking It was nowhere near dark. The autos were parked In the lot with care But some were way out in The middle of nowhere. The children were running Full speed for the gates Young adults followed Holding hands with their dates. And Mom in her t-shirt And Dad in his cap Were intently poring Over the park map. When off to the left There arose such a clatter El Toro was testing, Nothing else mattered. To the ticket window I flew like a flash Should I use plastic? Or should I pay cash? The sun in the sky In the absence of snow Glinted off the steel Of Nitro below. My eyes were kept busy Absorbing the scene; Including a monster Whose height was obscene. It holds a world record That hasn't been beat. After waiting two hours You MIGHT get a seat. More shiny than satin, The coasters, they gleamed. I whistled and shouted And sometimes I screamed! Hey, Toro! Hey, Kingda! Hey, Runaway Train! Hey, Batman! Hey, Nitro! My next was in vain. B an R: Chiller Is gone from the site. What's taken it's place? Something called the Dark Knight. Away 'cross the park On my way to Skull Mountain Stopped on the way, Got a drink from a fountain. Over to Superman, I'm ready to fly. Kid on line took one look And he started to cry. So over the first drop, The coasters they flew With trains full of riders Some vets and some new. And then in a twinkling I heard a great sound! People laughing and screaming While spun 'round and 'round! Sad news to report, I am now out of rhymes. This poem may cut short, But it evokes happy times. The parks will soon open, There's nothing to fear So I'll say Merry Christmas And Happy New Year! Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas Holiday to everyone on RollerCoaster Talk! Mike Gallagher
