Dubailand: To Be Or Not To Be?

Featured Replies

I am always glad to see new parks coming into the industry with fresh new looks and ideas. I think that helps the rest of the industry to look for ways to keep up in ways that the appeals to the audiences they are trying to attract. With the money that Dubai has they can give Disney a run for their money and get them to stay on their game and even be more imaginative while staying profitable.

Dubailand will be twice the size of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, making it the biggest theme/amusement park in the world.

The writer is somewhat confusing; Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is 47 square miles, the size of San Francisco or twice the size of Manhattan NY. This includes 4 theme parks 2 water parks, numerous golf courses, entertainment/retail shopping/restaurant district, sports complex, race track lots or resort/timeshare hotels and a small town and on and on. The writer says they are adding a lot of projects to the project but then says it will be the largest theme/amusement park in the world. So is Dubailand a theme/amusement park or is it a tourist entertainment district that also includes a theme/amusement park? Then which is larger that the writer refers to the theme/amusement park or the tourist/entertainment district or both?

I'm so glad you asked that same question. I don't know that the writer knows how to compare apples to apples either, or the size of the apple. The statement may or may not be accurate. I guess time will tell.

Somehow, I don't see this project as one that will fall through or face rabid opposition that causes delays or even cancellation.

I agree Interpreter, when HH Sheikh Mohammed says lets do something everyone goes to work and focuses on how to get it done with money not being a problem when it comes to making it a grand project. Funny how money can make things happen in some parts of the world.

I did find a quote on Dubailand website http://www.dubailand.ae/news_details1.html

Conceived as the largest destination for family-oriented, tourism and entertainment in the Middle East, DUBAILAN will have a number of theme parks, including one of the largest water parks in the world.

So like you said Interpreter “time will tell”

Everything about Dubai is grand in scale. I wonder what kinds of coasters will be built there. (I'd go just to visit the Burj al-Arab and the Burj Dubai, being a fan of tower architecture.) With enough money and the 'right' construction laws in place, anything is imaginable!

Ahhh, if the US could only ignore human rights concers and use what would be considered slave labor.

Ahhhh!

Then we could have our own Dubailand... How exciting.

Do you think we could set up a Caste System to go along. Wouldnt that be fun

It would be awesome!

That way, we could operate just like much of the UAE operates.

Most of the citizens not needing to work and receiving a check from the government!

Sounds oddly familiar.

Check please...

With Slave Labor and Human Rights Violations...

.... Anything Is Possible!

Yeah I am concerned with how large this area is and the fact nothing is around it. It’s one thing to get enough people to support all the parks and attractions in the area and another is where are they going to get all those workers from and where will they stay. There is nothing around the area.

Slave Labor is a beautiful thing and it will solve those problems, Avatar. ;)

Dubailand "Will Definitely Go Ahead":

....

But Mr Abbar insisted that the world's largest theme park would go ahead - if not necessarily on time.

"Dubailand will definitely go ahead," he said.

"They have signed agreements, but even concerning Dubailand, if there is a need to move things around, adjust, because of the global situation, let's do that".....

This whole Dubailand project just reads "Heritage USA" to me, only without any religious ties and not ran by the Bakker's.
