jzarley
Interesting... First of all, it's a great idea. It will be a low cost attraction that will generate a lot of buzz without a big price tag. Secondly, it's interesting that Disney is licensing a media product it doesn't own, for an attraction in its parks. Other than the license to use the MGM properties and Muppet franchise (which Disney eventually acquired outright), I can't think of too many other times this has happened. (Prior to Disney's acquisition of Pixar, theme park attraction rights were built into Disney's distribution deal for Pixar films...) 19 Entertainment and Freemantle Media are both hot properties right now...I wonder if an acquisition by Disney could be in the works? A move of Idol to ABC from FOX at some point? What's funny is that the big three networks (NBC, CBS, and ABC) all turned down American Idol before it was picked up by FOX! Cory Butcher
So, first off, I like this idea. Like Jzarley stated, it should be pretty low cost, be a draw, and if people are screened before they hit the stage, well then it should be OK! The only thing that concerns me, and I know I shouldn't be concerned because this is Disney that we are talking about, but will this be truly American Idol, or International St. Bandstand at Kings Island, all over again? I would imagine that American Idol would have pretty close control over such an entity. I can not imagine that Idol would risk their image being tarnished, and vice versa. jzarley
Have you guys seen the audition shows the last few weeks? I don't think they're worried at all about bad singers tarnishing their brand!

I don't think they're worried at all about bad singers tarnishing their brand! No, it's absolutely not a concern about "bad singing." It's the theatrical aspect of it. I'm certain that they would not want a production done poorly to reflect against the Idol name. I'm just wondering if the Disney Version of Idol will have Paula Abdul Cry for every show?
