The Interpreter
.... Cedar Point spokesman Bryan Edwards said he is well aware of the fuel factor, but remains optimistic for a successful season. "We've added a lot of attractions this year, a lot of family-friendly rides, so I think we're a more attractive alternative to maybe some longer-distance places," he said. "It's not only family-friendly, but it's budget-friendly as well." Edwards said he hopes the tax rebates being issued as part of the federal stimulus package will encourage more families to purchase season passes -- which can provide family fun for an entire summer for less than the amount of one individual's refund check. As fuel prices rose in recent years, Edwards said, he's noticed more guests coming from a broader market, including Chicago, Pennsylvania and the East Coast. He said the park's prices are actually $1 to $2 lower today than they were in 2003 and 2005, and they plan to continue offering discounts through Pepsi, Meijer, AAA and Discount Drug Mart.... CoastersRZ
I find the last paragraph comical. The part about reduced park prices. While general admission prices might be $1 or $2 less then they were several years ago, that difference is more then made up for with much higher food prices! A one day trip for a family to Cedar Point will cost considerably more this year then it did back in 2005, due to the much higher food prices. The same thing applies for Kings Island as far as the food pricing goes.
The Interpreter
You know, I really don't think the food prices bother most families at KI nearly as much as the reduced quality and service in food service, which are both readily apparent. Prior to the arrival of Cedar Fair, I had never gotten a slice of cold pizza from Kings Island. Now, for me at least, it has sadly become more the norm than the exception. The bitterness of low quality is remembered even more when the sting of high price is added to it.
Lake54321
I think these people are just dreaming, it's MORE than just fuel cost that are making people cut back. Everything is going up, my last bill from the Cabel TV & Phone Company both had rate increases, and food & EVERYTHING we buy is going up!! The fisrt thing people cut are vacations and trips and I don't care how close you live to an Amusement park, if you can't afford to go you can't afford to go! And guess what, I bet all the pricec at that amusement park have went up like Parking, Tickets, Food.......
The Interpreter
I suspect they are holding the line on admission prices and parking, and thinking they are going to make up for it on food and retail. I really don't see how they can justify any increase in food cost to the customer this year...and if they try to, they may find themselves with much lower per caps. Last year, the food prices were breathtaking at Cedar Fair parks, especially the former Paramount Parks. The quality of the product delivered was, unfortunately, usually not. Beast1979
Doesn't it take a LOT of fuel to power one coaster? And If so could the riseing gas prices affect our amusement park experience?
The Interpreter
If that coaster is Flight of Fear, yes. Otherwise, no. But fuel prices affect the price of everything you buy or use. It has to get to you somehow, and raw materials often involve petroleum in other ways.
