I almost thought it was April Fools Day!

Why is that?

Because I have three buddies that are serving in Iraq now.

Being the current situation, it's amazing that this is even a proposition.

Well, it will be interesting to watch the park develop in that great and historic city. I hope all the citizens who visit there will experience the fun and joy that such a place provides.

Probably not likely that you'll see any kind of construction for any period of time.

One guy I know over in the area is a contractor with KBR.

They are having difficutly just with the basic infrastructure.....

You know, things like running electric longer than 6 hours a day.

Them rides at the park will be running perty slow with no electric.

Too bad they probably wont have a food department comparable to Kings Islands in the late 80's and early 90's.

Hopefully this project gets off the ground soon and we can see some progress. In 2005 the Army was instrumental in helping restore infrastructure to the existing Fun City amusement park in Baghdad which closed down at the start of the war and is now back up and running.

Baghdad Park

— Before the invasion there were two amusement parks in Baghdad, one in Rusafaa and one in Karf. They now only open on public holidays

— Al-Zawra park and its zoo, (the site of the new park), are among the city’s most popular attractions. There are fountains, sculptures, coffee shops and children’s playgrounds

— The Cross Swords park, a favourite meeting place before the invasion, is now locked inside the green zone

— On warm evenings, Iraqis flock to the city’s three lakes, al-Habanya, al-Therthar and al-Razaza

I suspect that we'll probably never see construction begin on the park. If we do, it will probably shut down quickly.
