FoF and Vortex are still my favorite coasters at Kings Island. Don't know who to give the edge to. But dang, I wish they didn't have to put the MCBR on so hard! My friend who operates the ride said it's to make it a longer ride, but I don't buy it. The ride went from great! to good.

Oh, and Vortex doesn't give headaches, it's the rider.

For what it is worth, neither Joker's Jinx nor Poltergeist even have mid-course brakes!

BUT I've talked to guys about these two other rides and they say the launch/first half on FoF is WAY more intense than on Polter/JJ. They call it "Pansy mode" haha

And check out the footage KI gives you along with the video. But there's some stupid girls on the ride...

Interesting....having ridden all four of the US Premier LIM-launched Flight of Fear type rides, I have not observed any such weakness in the launches of Poltergeist or Joker's Jinx. I dare say the launch needs to be the speed it is to properly negotiate the track without valleying....I have ridden Poltergeist only a relative few times, but I have ridden Joker's Jinx many, many times...and see no substantial difference between it and the Flights of Fear, until you hit what would be the midcourse brake...if Joker's Jinx had one...

Also, according to rcdb.com, the Flights of Fear do 54 miles per hour, while Poltergeist and Joker's Jinx do 60mph, so, it would appear, if anything, that the Poltergeist and Joker's Jinx launches are actually more powerful!

I also remember my first ride on it with the new lap bars - I was riding with Jeff Siebert, before the ride opened to the public with the new restraints. This was also during the short period while the mid-course breaks were off, and before the LIMs had been re-adjusted to accomodate the new weight of the trains. What an amazing ride - the feeling of going through the corkscrew at the end with your arms uninhibited at breakneck speeds was incredible!

That sounds amazing. I just feel like boo-ing when the train hits the MCBR. I mean it's kinda cool being at the top of the coaster and being able to look at everything but the experience of the rest of the ride suffers.

Anyhoo.... How'd you get that ride?

Yes, it definitely was a highlight.

I was a Manager at the time - we were doing testing on the ride.

Everyone is correct. FOF does not have a vertical loop. Also, FOF used to launch the riders at 60 MPH, but they fine tune the launching to slow it down a bit. The launch was soo intense that they at one time thought that was what was giving the riders the headache. As of today, the launching speed depends on the weight of the train. As it's going thru the launch tunnel, if the launching speed isn't correct (going to slowly), then it will jerk foward and pick up speed right before it enters it's first "loop". If it doesn't do this, then the train will not make it all the way thru the 1st loop and roll back and stop in the launch tunnel in the breaks.

Yes, I've worked on the ride for 3 years and was a sup on it for 2 years.
