May 30, 200818 yr I created this for two reasons. I must admit that it was mainly to toy around more with After Effects, which is a video editing program that I just required. Secondly, I've had people request that I cut a video of just jump footage, so here it is. This is a stripped down video that's just shy of 1 minute. Let me know what you think.
May 30, 200818 yr Ryan – nice job with the jump video, I liked the slow motion especially close to the ramp landing. What I am more impressed with is your special effects of the split screen videos and the timing and layering of the graphics. Great job!
May 30, 200818 yr Great job! I love it how Invertigo just happens to loop Robbie right as he walks by (0:38)! Nice work.
May 30, 200818 yr Wow cool video!!! That was the first time I've the landing from that angle. He only cleared 23 of the trucks!!!! Landed on the safety ramp on top of the 24th truck!!!! He landed on his wheels and kept going, but didn't go the "whole" distance. So, is this a sucessful jump? or no? I'd say yes, just because he landed and kept going, but what do you guys think?
May 30, 200818 yr I call it a success, because he beat his dad's distance and landed safely. It was a cool spectacle that we don't get to see everyday, and it went off quite well. Plus it got world-wide press for the 'besting of his dad's jump'. Very cool. [edit] Dawg beat me to it
May 30, 200818 yr I would loved to have seen a view of the jump from on top of the Eiffel Tower or Drop Tower.
May 31, 200818 yr Author Thanks for all of the feedback. I made this as more of a test of what can be done rather than trying to reinvent the wheel with another Knievel video. Hopefully I can sharpen my skills and make more elaborate KIC videos in the future.
May 31, 200818 yr Well, check out the full length version of the KIC movie of the jump coverage. There is a clip (shortly before the one minute marker) of the jump as seen from the Eiffel Tower. I was part of the KIC team covering the jump, and I was positioned up in the Eiffel Tower with a camera. I was up in the Eiffel Tower from 6pm until 8pm, among all the others who flocked to the tower to catch the jump.
June 1, 200818 yr I've never really played with After Effects but I do know it's a nice program. If I didn't use Final Cut I would jump on AE.
June 1, 200818 yr Author I've never really played with After Effects but I do know it's a nice program. If I didn't use Final Cut I would jump on AE. How is Final Cut with special effects? After Effects is great for some things, but you have to render it out and put it in a different compiler if you want to logically cut a video. It does however have a good option of compiling in an Adobe Premier format.
June 2, 200818 yr Really, Final Cut isn't anything special in the special effects area. It's more of an editor meant to be followed by a program like After Effects, at that it excels. Green screen is a bit of a pain, I would imagine it's better in AE. I would say the two coupled would be quite awesome. That or Final Cut and Apple Shake.
June 2, 200818 yr Author I use Pinnacle Studio 11 to actually compile the video. It only allows for two layers of video (doesn't do masks), and four layers of audio (one attached to each layer of video, a sound effects layer, and a music layer). It was fine for what I used to do, but I got tired of the same 'ol, same 'ol style of videos and wanted more, so that's where After Effects came into play.
June 2, 200818 yr That can be extremely limiting to your creativity. That's why I ditched iMovie. Now I have 99 layers on each audio and video. I've never actually played with Pinnacle either. I had a copy but never used it. Hm, I don't remember why. Odd...
