Chippewa lake & Idora Park

Featured Replies

Places like these make me hate huge monopolizing companies like Cedar Fair. Have any of you ever visited? i visited Chippewa last fall, so depressing.

here is chippewa lakes myspace; http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=294581418

and idora park's ; http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=297718471

so sad..

Don't forget:

Euclid Beach

Erieview

Moxahala Amusement Park

LeSourdsville Lake aka Americana

Puritas Springs

To be fair, probably the only park closure in the state of Ohio that Cedar Fair was a contributing factor in was:

Geauga Lake

but why go to chippewa lake when Cedar Point is half an hour away?

ps, i only counted those to because they werestanding untill just recently, CL is still there

I explored Idora Park in the very early '90s, when much was still there and intact. It was hard to process...defunct/abandoned amusement parks strike a chord in me that I can't quite describe, especially ones that I used to go to as a child!

Wildcat and Jack Rabbit (or Back Wabbit?) were still in great shape (sans Wildcat fire damage) and the smell of chain grease still lingered in the Wildcat station.

Near the old arcade, there was even a decomposing teddy bear lying on the ground as a reminder of all the fun family times that used to be had amidst the now weed and Ailanthus engulfed landscape. Creepy it was...

I wanted to bring my video camera but was trepiditious as Idora Park borders a really nasty part of Youngstown - my friend was robbed at gun point just down the road!

I miss cozy parks...

i wish that chippewa lake was bought by Cedar Fair, and completely restored, the big dipper looks like fun

Uh, I'm assuming you mean because Chippewa has been standing abandoned since the mid 70's where as Americana closed in 2002. I wouldn't worry about CF purchasing the park and restoring it, there is hardly anything there and the people who do own recently announced their new sub division complete with houses that will be located on the lake.

Not to mention that Cedar Fair's financial position is such that they won't be buying any parks to restore for a very long time. Besides, the next to last park they bought to restore in Ohio had its rides auctioned off yesterday....

it makes no sence why people find abandond and closed amusement parks depressing, they dont have feelings or anything. but we all do.

Not just the United States but the world. Kennywood has one operating. Conneaut HAD one....Blackpool's operates in England...and the one at Chippewa.....that's it.

blackpools is gone, check windows live maps bird eye. and ki had one, wish they still did

When operated very fast, as they originally did, it was exhilarating. Kennywood's runs relatively slowly, and does not really have the same experience. Conneaut's was quite amazing....as was Whalom's, and Kings Island's.
